10 best headlamp for cavings

A headlamp for caving, also known as a spelunking headlamp, is a specialized piece of equipment designed for use by cavers or spelunkers exploring caves and underground passages. Here's what you should know about headlamps for caving:

  1. Hands-Free Illumination: One of the primary purposes of a caving headlamp is to provide hands-free illumination. Cavers need both hands to navigate through narrow passages, climb, and use their equipment. A headlamp is worn on the head or helmet, allowing the caver to direct the light wherever they are looking.

  2. Brightness: Caving headlamps are typically high-powered and offer various brightness settings. They are designed to provide adequate illumination for both close-up tasks like reading a map and distant visibility to spot obstacles or features in the cave.

  3. Durability: Caving headlamps are built to withstand the harsh and rugged conditions inside caves. They are often waterproof or at least water-resistant to protect against moisture, mud, and submersion.

  4. Battery Life: Battery life is a crucial consideration for caving headlamps, as caving expeditions can last for hours or even days. Many headlamps for caving use rechargeable batteries, while others may use disposable batteries. Some models have long-lasting batteries or backup power options.

  5. Light Beam Types: Caving headlamps may offer different types of light beams, including spotlights for long-range visibility and floodlights for wide, even illumination. Some models have adjustable beams to switch between these modes.

  6. Helmet Compatibility: Many cavers wear helmets for safety, and caving headlamps are designed to attach securely to these helmets. They often have dedicated mounts or straps for this purpose.

  7. Strap Comfort: Comfort is essential during extended caving trips, so the headlamp's headband or strap should be adjustable and padded for a secure and comfortable fit on the caver's head or helmet.

  8. Red Light Mode: Some caving headlamps include a red light mode. Red light is less likely to disturb sensitive cave-dwelling organisms and preserves the caver's night vision.

  9. Ease of Use: Caving headlamps should be user-friendly, with intuitive controls that are easy to operate even in the dark or with gloves on.

  10. Backup Light: Cavers often carry a backup light source, such as a smaller flashlight, in case their primary headlamp fails. This is considered a safety precaution.

  11. Regulations: Depending on the cave and location, there may be regulations regarding the use of headlamps or other equipment to protect the cave environment and ensure safety. Cavers should be aware of and adhere to any such regulations.

In conclusion, headlamps for caving are specialized tools designed to provide reliable and hands-free illumination for cavers exploring caves and underground passages. They are built to withstand the challenging conditions of cave environments and offer various features to ensure safety and convenience during caving expeditions.

User questions & answers

Question: No batteries !! Where were your batteries when you opened the package? There were no batteries that I could find
Answer: The batteries are at the store. Buy some.
Question: How stif is the button? How likely is it to come on in a pocket full of other stuff
Answer: The photo that accompanies this question is for the 250Lumen, 2 Mode version. It has a single button. I don't have that model, I have the 325 Lumen, 3 Mode version which has 2 buttons- on this model the buttons have a hard ridge around the outside of the button with a firm but pliable central area which can be activated by the end of your finger, and it would be highly unlikely that anything in your pocket would activate it. I can't speak whether the 1 button model has the same feature because I don't have that model. I can say that the model I have now, and the one I had before which got very heavy use for 5 years before one of the battery wires between the battery compartment and the light broke from repeated flexing are tough as hell and well worth the $$ I paid for it, and I got my money's worth.
Question: headlight aa battery
Answer: The person who answered to you in 2015 is very accurate. Avoid Energizer lights. There is another similar case on Amazon.ca where it got hot in the battery compartment. Another case is mine where the compartment was smelling burning plastic and suddenly quit. It is dangerous. It might be one every hundred, but, you don't want to be the one. Energizer is very bad when it comes to warranty. Mine shorted out too for no reason. I contacted them and they asked me to send photos of the product and packaging from all angles. Another email they asked for my address and telephone number. The next email was to send them a photo of the batteries I used. Their next email was a total BS. They said: "Thank you for contacting Energizer. We appreciate your efforts of sharing details with us. We would like to inform you that we received pictures which you have shared with us as we can see in the picture that you are using different brand batteries in the headlight and the damage to headlight was done by those batteries. We are sorry to inform you that we are unable to validate the case as damage was not done by our batteries. We request you to contact the battery company to claim the compensation for damaged headlight. Your understanding and cooperation is highly appreciated. Thank you once again for contacting Energizer. Please feel free to contact us whenever required." I then replied that these are BS because it's a way to run away and avoid standing by their no existent warranty. They tried to fool me. I emailed them back telling them that on the box and instructions it says to use AA batteries and not to mix different types of batteries. Nowhere it says to use only Energizer batteries. Besides all these, my photo shows batteries in an excellent shape expiring in 2 years from now. How on earth did he make up a story that my batteries leaked. The photo shows clearly three shiny new batteries. Also, how on earth did he assume the battery compartment was damaged. In the photo and in real life, the compartment was in good shape. The short was internal and you can't observe it from the outside. It is just a company to avoid doing business with and don't rely on their warranty. They try to ask questions knowing in advance that they will deny the warranty. It is like trying to play chess knowing the next move. This Energizer light is not any better than the "Police Blackout headlamp" found in WalMart for way less money, way brighter and way more natural white, 4AA batteries that are drained equally (balanced) unlike the Energizer that is known to smell burning for no reason. You don't want to take chances to catch fire in the house. The Energizer does not drain the batteries equally. One of the 3 batteries drains faster than the other two. Also the light output comparison stands no chance next to the "Blackout". Also, way better warranty on the blackout by a company based in Georgia USA. Both lights are made in China, but, it is a no no to Energizer who is known to fool their customers.
Question: Does it have 70 lumens or 325? The picture and description don't match
Answer: 325

User questions & answers

Question: The multi position system, is it plastic or aluminum? I had the eos2 but got the eos1 but it’sa plastic angle system and very weak. Anyone know
Answer: Yes, even with my phone cover
Question: What kind of batteries does this require
Answer: They should work with all apps on your phone
Question: is the adjustable tilt able to hold any angle, or is it limited to a few "notches
Answer: Not great...These are more of fitness headphones vs music headphones.
Question: Where was this manufactured? Made in what country
Answer: They work with Runkeeper, but honestly I quit using mine because many times they failed to consistently pick up HR or would only do it for a few minutes of the run. If you want accurate HR, stick with tried and true chest strap.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this an LED

Question: What is the green light used for
Answer: Didn't work. Sent it back.
Question: the straps are designed to work with a hard hat, how well do they work if you just wear on your head - thanks
Answer: There is a black button on top. Click it once to make brighter, press again and will blink, and the third time you press turns it off! I hope I have been of assistance.
Question: How many tilt settings are there? Is it only a couple or three or is it able to tilt down many varying degrees
Answer: Yes it does

User questions & answers

Question: Where is this product made
Answer: It’s very bright. The strap is adjustable so you get a snug fit. If you don’t mind running while wearing a headlamp it should work.
Question: what's the average run time for the vision ultra
Answer: No it doesn't.
Question: What is the smart dimming feature. i can dim it fine but it seems to have some other feature where it gradually increases light intensity
Answer: I'm a serious rider (primary mode of transport) and I use the older model of this as my primary headlight. I took off the elastic strap and clip that holds it and used some JB Weld to adhere a part of my old broken Planet Bike 2 watt light. I used a dremel tool to saw off the clip from the old light so it would fit into the handlebar fixture the PB light originally came with. I doubt I'll ever buy any other bike specific light again because this thing is awesome as a bike light, as well as way more affordable than a bike specific light of the same brightness. My PB light was $50 at the time and probably 60% dimmer. You just need to experiment with ways to fasten it to your bike, unless you're cool with wearing it on your head. I'm actually surprised energizer hasn't tried to start marketing bike lights. My guess is that they would probably suck, unless they were built on a variation of this light.
Question: Do you have to scroll through all 6 modes to turn it off
Answer: Technically yes. The first mode (which has its own button identified by a dimple in the red rubber) is max power. the other button (identified by the "power" icon in the red rubber) has three modes in the following order: red, max power, half power. So, if you hit the button that executes the red lighting once, the red comes on as it is the first in the sequence. Now if you hit the single function button it turns the red off without cycling the other 2 functions,

User questions & answers

Question: Why does the red lamp blink three times every 62 seconds when the white flood is on??? It is very distracting
Answer: Thank you for contacting us! the Red and Green LED mode allows users to preserve night vision. For more details you can refer https://www.energizer.com/lighting/headlights#vhuhdrh. For any further information you can reach out to us at 1800-383-7323 or can send us an email at [email protected] along with the pictures of the product so that we can assist you better. Thank You!
Question: does this use any AAA batteries
Answer: Batteries came with it! And yes any AAA batteries.
Question: Is it worth it to buy the 360 Lumens over the 315 or 260? Is it significantly better
Answer: Having bought a number of LED headlamps, brightness is important. First, 360 over 315 or even 260 isn't a big draw. Second, the important factors are reliability and battery life. Some manufacturers do better than others, top ones Petzl and Black Diamond ... similar to LED household bulb efficiencies (lumens/watt). But let's say they are all equal in efficiency. This means a 360 lumen lamp will use much more than a 260, so if the 260 is 'plenty good', fewer batteries to buy. Think of this as a battery eater ... like razor blades, film (dating myself), printer cartridges. It may not be the razor or camera that is the dollar drain, it's the batteries. Even if you buy a 360, it should have a lower setting that is usable because your batteries will be eaten slower.
Question: Call me dumb, but I only can get 3 modes. High, low and red. How do you get flood and full
Answer: Thank you for reaching out to Energizer. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS: • Press 1 time for Spot & Flood. Hold down to adjust brightness. Light will flash at highest and lowest settings. Release to set light level. • Press 2 times for Spot only. Dimming not available. • Press 3 times for Flood only. Dimming not available. • On any mode, press after 2 seconds to turn light off. No need to cycle through the modes. For any further information you can reach out to us at [email protected]
