User questions & answers
Question: | is this model rechargeable |
Answer: | each bottle has a yr stamped on the bottom, mine is 2014, and it says on the side of the sticker in red writing to replace after 10 yrs from the date stamped on the bottom, i have 1 in my laundry room , garage, and shop, the mounting bracket works great that comes with it, hope this helps |
Question: | Which is better for all-around home use, the amerex b500 or b402? i understand the b402 has a higher u/l rating but that decreases flow rate |
Answer: | Just be aware, read the 1 star ratings on here for this plastic valve Kidde unit. They are notorious for losing pressure over time, Kidde has had multiple recalls going back into the 1990's for various plastic-valve models. Also the gauge may be frozen in the "green" zone but the unit may have leaked out all pressure. You get what you pay for, compare this model to any metal-valve 2 1/2 lb extinguisher from Amerex, Ansul, Buckeye, Badger etc and you'll see the difference. Fire extinguishers are like parachutes, it's too late to buy a better one at the moment that you need to use it. |
Question: | Why does the title say 5 lb. and the description say 10 lbs.? What is the true weight |
Answer: | For kitchen/cooking specific fires, check out the "KIDDE 21008173N Kitchen 711A Extinguisher" |
Question: | It says multipurpose. Does this mean it works on all classes of fires |
Answer: | Yes, the First Alert Home Fire Extinguisher reaches the standard of u.s.c.g, and is rated by the United States c.g. as 1-A: B: C. Meaning that the 1-A says that the extinguisher can extinguish fires from the solid materials such as wood, card, paper, and fabric. 10-B shows that fire from flammable liquids like kerosene, petrol, paints, and diesel can be extinguished and the C indicates that the fire extinguisher can put out electrical fires. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the shipping $45.67 as shown |
Answer: | It does have a slight reddish/mahogany tone, but not "red" or overstated color. It's a nice wood finish, not the painted look. (And not that you asked, but the pegs aren't going to hold anything heavy FYI.) |
Question: | Does it have an expiration date? Is the 6 year warranty from the moment you received the product or when it was made |
Answer: | Only mounting was required. That was a problem because the studs in our wall would not match up to the top rail with the predrilled holes. I ended up drilling new holes, one in the top rail and the other on the bottom rail vertically below. That worked very well. There was no "assembly" required. But, the standard iron that my wife puts in is a hair too big for the cabinet and she has to wiggle the ironing board to secure it. Other than that, the cabinet works very well. |
Question: | Is this a 2A:10-BC |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Can this be used in car Shop / garage working on cars |
Answer: | It comes with a cover, I'm not sure what to but to replace it when the time comes, but I love this wall mount ironing board |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this extinguisher good for grease fires |
Answer: | Yes, it can be refilled by an licensed/accredited Fire Extinguisher company. |
Question: | what is the expiration date on these |
Answer: | Yes it does. Nice piece of equipment. |
Question: | Does it still work even after the expiration date |
Answer: | Many incorrect answers to several 'weight' questions on this product. To clarify... The "total weight" of the fire extinguisher is about 18.5 pounds (i.e., 'the entire thing sitting in your lap = 18.5lbs"). The extinguisher has a *capacity* when fully charged to hold 10 pounds of fire-suppression chemical or "spray" that comes out of the nozzle. Doing the math: (18.5lbs "gross weight" of the entire product) - (10lb of fire suppression 'stuff' within the canister) = metal canister/hose/nozzle/label weight of ~8.5lbs. If the unit is shipped in a box which itself has a label + shipping receipt, the TOTAL weight of EVERYthing is probably ~20 pounds (box+label+receipt+canister+fire suppression stuff inside). That being said, what's important to note is not so much the weights per se but the fire fighting capacity. This is a 4A:80B:C unit. A = the relative capacity of the unit as if it is shooting water (on a wood fire) (NOTE: the unit does not shoot water! the "A" value is the effectiveness of the extinguisher contents as iff it was water!!); B = the relative square footage of the fire it can handle C = the unit ability to fight electrical fires. So lets break down a 4A:80B:C unit... ...it is a 4A. Each A=1.25gal 'value' or 'power' of water (NOTE: again I emphasize most strenuously, the unit does NOT shoot out water...the 'A' value is the 'power' or 'comparable effectiveness' of its contents to water. Hence, 4 x1.25 = 5gal of water 'relative' capacity/power meaning the unit has equivalent of 5 gallons of water power to fight a wood fire (NOTE: once again, repeat after me... it is NOT !!! water inside the extinguisher, but rather, the contents in the canister have the EQUIVALENT of 5 gallons of water fighting capacity) (there is no water in the canister) (repeat after me: 'A' value is fire fighting ability as if the contents were water, which they are not ... it is a comparison. There IS NO WATER inside the canister!!). ... it is an 80B. Each B is a square foot. Hence, this unit has the capacity (theoretically) to address an 80sq ft. fire which is 8x10 or so which is a small kitchen or average bathroom size fire. This will not address a fire at Grand Central Terminal. It will not fight a fully emblazoned McMansion. It will not fight a car factory fire or an oil refinery fire. 80 sq feet (ish). A walk in closet, small kitchen, a carport, etc. ...it is a C. Thusly, the unit can be used if the fire is electrical based. BULLET: Canister total weight in your lap =~18.5lbs. Of that, 10lbs is fire fighting stuff inside and ~8.5lbs is metal canister. The canister has the relative 'power' of 5gals water for wood type fires though, to again repeat, there IS NO WATER in the extinguisher. It can fight a small fire in an area of ~8- square feet (or 10 x 8 = walk in closet). As a 'C' unit it can fight electrical based fires. There is no water. "2lbs" is most certainly a typo of which Amazon is rife. Read the entire thing above like 2-3x to make sure you know what you are getting but most importantly, what extinguisher labeling means and what it does NOT mean. P.S.: There is no water in this unit. |
Question: | How do you dispose of an expired can |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these tagged units |
Answer: | It looks like you can. The label on the side of my extinguisher says "Recharge if gross weight is below 8 lbs 1/4 oz, or pressure is below operable range at normal temperatures." BUT WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO? I investigated getting the previous extinguisher re-filled and to get it filled and certified would cost almost as much as a new one. Then you have to ask yourself why does it need to be refilled at all? My last one leaked out slowly in just 5 years or so. I was pissed (It wasn't a Badger). It makes me wonder if the rubber seals on the valves are any good. I would not want to keep one of these for more than 10 years because of the chance that the rubber parts begin to deteriorate and then one day in an emergency you go to use it.... I think it's best to keep these new. |
Question: | Are these extinguishers rechargeable |
Answer: | it would depend on whether or not the deck has a 'lip' to it that the arms can grab on to. The arms would normally attach to the window sill of the window... |
Question: | What are the dimension of product |
Answer: | - if my options were to hang over the railing or burn in a fire, I'd opt to hang it over the railing and take my chances. although it may be a good idea to test it under non-emergency conditions... |
Question: | Are these made with a Metal Handle or Plastic, the plastic are usually 1 time use |
Answer: | I think your window would need a bit of a lip on the inside for the hooks to hook on to. I had casement windows put in, but they left the old frame in, so I had a big lip on the bottom for it. You might try to call Kidde from their website and ask them. |
