12 best tools more carbon monoxide detectors
Combination Smoke Carbon Monoxide Detectors are important tools for enhancing fire safety and ensuring the security of homes and buildings. These devices are designed to detect both smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) in the air, providing a comprehensive approach to safeguarding against two common hazards.
Here are some key points about Combination Smoke Carbon Monoxide Detectors and their relevance to safety, security, and home improvement:
Dual Functionality: Combination detectors are equipped to sense both smoke and carbon monoxide.Smoke detectors are crucial for early fire detection, while carbon monoxide detectors monitor the presence of this odorless, colorless gas, which can be produced by faulty heating systems, appliances, or vehicles in enclosed spaces.
Alerts and Notifications: When smoke or elevated CO levels are detected, these detectors emit loud alarms to alert occupants of potential danger. Early warning can save lives and provide valuable time to evacuate or address the issue.
Battery and Hardwired Options: Combination detectors come in various models, including battery-operated and hardwired versions. Hardwired detectors are typically connected to a building's electrical system and may include a battery backup for uninterrupted operation during power outages.
Placement: Proper placement is crucial for effective operation. Install detectors on each level of your home, near sleeping areas, and in the vicinity of potential CO sources, such as the kitchen and garage. Follow manufacturer guidelines for installation and maintenance.
Regular Testing and Maintenance: To ensure reliability, it's essential to test combination detectors regularly and replace batteries as needed. Some models have self-testing features that simplify this process.
Interconnected Detectors: For enhanced safety, consider interconnected detectors. When one detector detects smoke or CO, it triggers all interconnected detectors in the home, ensuring that everyone is alerted regardless of their location.
Smart and Wi-Fi Enabled Detectors: Modern combination detectors may be connected to smart home systems, allowing for remote monitoring and notifications through smartphone apps. These devices can also provide valuable data and alerts when you're away from home.
Compliance with Local Regulations: Be aware of local building codes and regulations regarding smoke and CO detectors. Compliance is often required when selling or renovating a home.
Carbon Monoxide Risks: Carbon monoxide is particularly dangerous because it's odorless and can cause symptoms like dizziness, nausea, and confusion. Prolonged exposure can be fatal, making CO detectors a crucial addition to any home.
Replacement Schedule: Combination detectors have a limited lifespan, typically around 5-10 years, after which they should be replaced to ensure continued accuracy and reliability.
In summary, Combination Smoke Carbon Monoxide Detectors play a vital role in home safety and security by providing early warning of smoke and carbon monoxide threats. Installing and maintaining these detectors correctly can significantly reduce the risks associated with fires and CO exposure, making them essential tools for home improvement and safety.

The Kidde i12010SCO is a hardwired combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm that contains a 10-year, sealed battery backup. This alarm uses breakthrough technology to offer a fast response to real fires, including smoldering and fast-flaming, as well as protect you from carbon monoxide and dramatically reduce the chance of nuisance alarms. The Intelligent sensor technology combines the detection capabilities of an ionization smoke sensor – which is more likely to detect smaller, less visible fire particles, like those produced by flaming fires – with that of an electrochemical sensor, which is used to detect CO. Since carbon monoxide is present in all fires, having both detection chambers work together in one alarm is a breakthrough in the fire safety industry. When either sensor notices a potential hazard, it will communicate with the other. Depending on what is detected, the alarm will adjust its smoke sensitivity in order to better discriminate between a real hazard and a false one. This constant communication enhances the alarm’s overall performance in all fires, and significantly reduces the potential for a nuisance alarm. Peak Level Memory-Announces “CARBON MONOXIDE PREVIOUSLY DETECTED” if alarm has detected CO level of 100ppm or higher since it was last reset. Humidity Range - 10%-85% non-condensing relative humidity (RH).
- Provides protection from two hazards - Fire and CO in one unit with 10-year sealed lithium battery backup.
- Sealed-in lithium battery backup - No battery replacement required over the 10 year life of the alarm. Eliminates worry about removal or unauthorized deactivation of alarm.
- Voice warning system - Verbally announces “Fire” or “Warning, Carbon monoxide” to help distinguish between threats. Audio alarm: 85 dB at 10 feet
- Ionization sensing technology - Ideal for detecting fast flaming and other types of fires. Temperature Range: 40 degree F (4.4 degree C) to 100 degree F (37.8 degree C)
- Hush feature - Temporarily silences nuisance alarms for approximately 9 minutes and will not allow hush mode unless the unit is in alarm mode. Interconnects - Up to 24 Kidde devices (of which 18 can be initiating).Flashes once every 60 seconds to indicate battery only mode
- Compatible with Kidde, FireX, code one and sentinel products

Product description
Featuring a low profile, contemporary design, the First Alert PRC710 Slim Photoelectric Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with 10 Year Battery provides the same protection as a standard smoke alarm while taking up only a fraction of the space. This slim, battery operated smoke detector requires no hardwiring for installation, making it an ideal solution for those who want to enhance fire safety without hiring an electrician. It features a built in 10 year lithium ion battery that provides continuous power for up to a decade. Equipped with an ultra reliable photoelectric sensor, the smoke alarm detects smoke from slow burning, smoldering fires while keeping false alarms to a minimum. A patented smoke entry system further enhances the detector's reliability by providing a direct path to the smoke sensor. The unit also features an advanced electrochemical sensor that detects carbon monoxide leaks from multiple sources such as faulty fuel burning appliances and blocked chimneys. The simple twist lock mounting system installs easily onto a wall or ceiling, while the tamper resistant locks help prevent removal of the battery to keep the alarm secure. Half as thick as a standard alarm, the smoke detector has a sleek, slim design that blends in seamlessly with most decor. A loud 85 decibel alarm sounds when smoke is detected, and a convenient test/silence button lets you easily check alarm function and mute false alarms. TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS: Activating the battery. Mount alarm to mounting bracket to activate. Once unit is activated, it cannot be turned off. NOTE: After you activate the battery, the power indicator light may flash. (If the unit alarms, the light will blink rapidly, and the horn will repeatedly sound 3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps.) Once the Smoke Alarm is on the bracket, you can rotate the Alarm to adjust the alignment. Clean the Smoke/CO Alarm at least once a month; gently vacuum the outside of the Smoke/CO Alarm using your household vacuum’s soft brush attachment. A can of clean compressed air may also be used. Follow manufacturer instructions for use. Test the Smoke/CO Alarm. Never use water, cleaners or solvents since they may damage the unit. If the Smoke/CO Alarm becomes contaminated by excessive dirt, dust and/or grime, and cannot be cleaned to avoid unwanted alarms, replace the unit immediately. DO NOT LOCATE THIS SMOKE/CO ALARM: In garages, furnace rooms, crawl spaces and unfinished attics. Avoid extremely dusty, dirty or greasy areas. Where combustion particles are produced. Combustion particles form when something burns. Areas to avoid include poorly ventilated kitchens, garages, and furnace rooms. Keep units at least 20 feet (6 meters) from the sources of combustion particles (stove, furnace, water heater, space heater) if possible. In areas where a 20-foot (6 meter) distance is not possible – in modular, mobile, or smaller homes, for example – it is recommended the Smoke Alarm be placed as fa from these fuel-burning sources as possible. The placement recommendations are intended to keep these Alarms at a reasonable distance from a fuel-burning source, and thus reduce “unwanted” alarms. Unwanted alarms can occur if a Smoke Alarm is placed directly next to a fuel-burning source. Ventilate these areas as much as possible. Within 5 feet (1.5 meters) of any cooking appliance. In air streams near kitchens. Air currents can draw cooking smoke into the smoke sensor and cause unwanted alarms. In extremely humid areas. This Alarm should be at least 10 feet (3 meters) from a shower, sauna, humidifier, vaporizer, dishwasher, laundry room, utility room, or other source of high humidity. In direct sunlight. In turbulent air, like near ceiling fans or open windows. Blowing air may prevent CO or smoke from reaching the sensors. In areas where temperature is colder than 40˚ F (4.4˚ C) or hotter than 100˚F (37.8˚ C). These areas include non-airconditioned crawl spaces, unfinished attics, uninsulated or poorly insulated ceilings, porches, and garages. In insect infested areas. Insects can clog the openings to the sensing chamber. Less than 12 inches (305 mm) away from fluorescent lights. Electrical “noise” can interfere with the sensor. In “dead air” spaces. See “Avoiding Dead Air Spaces”.

User questions & answers
Question: | This gets such terrible reviews...What are better choices for a 10-year smoke/carbon detector |
Answer: | I have no idea if any of the brands available are any better than this. |
Question: | how to silence |
Answer: | There is a reset/silence button on the front cover of the detector. Push it and it should reset. If not you battery is no good and you need anew detector! |
Question: | Do you ceiling mount this fore/co2 alarm? doesn't co2 settle to the ground first |
Answer: | This is a CO alarm, not a CO2 alarm. CO2 is what makes your soda fizzy and is in in chained cylinders at restaurants... CO is an odorless, tasteless, colorless gas. The ONLY way to detect it is by detector. It is generated by any gas-powered appliances like dryers, stoves, snowblowers, cars, etc, and by burning like fire places. CO is BARELY lighter than air (about .96 to air being 1 for vapor density), and will mix and collect like normal air does, with drafts and normal air movement. CO detectors can be mounted at just about any height, though many manufacturers (somewhat arbitrarily) picked 5ft or chest height as the ideal mounting height. Smoke and heat rise, so smoke/heat detectors are required to be mounted within 12" of the ceiling. Combination detectors are common, and need to be mounted within 12" of the ceiling for the smoke function to operate properly. |
Question: | Does it use the same ceiling mounts as previous first alert detectors |
Answer: | The ceiling mount is different, but the screws are in the same place. Just loosen the screws, swith mounts, and tighten back up. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If there is a false alarm, can I turn this off from my i-phone |
Answer: | I open back back forgot I had installed alarm, I have a keypad by back door. When alarm sounded true keypad, nothing. I ran to unplug. Duh, battery operated then run to phone. Phone stopped everything. I didn't even get a call. That happened December 30 2018. |
Question: | How long does the battery last |
Answer: | At first my batteries were reporting 85% after 6 months, and again about 85% after the second 6 months. Then I helped my neighbor in the condo next to me setup a zwave system. Suddenly my batteries are only lasting 4-6 weeks. In other words, your signal strength will have a lot to do with how long the batteries last. |
Question: | Will this, if wired to an existing system, trigger a notification if a non-z-wave Alarm goes off (can I buy just one or do I need to replace all |
Answer: | I don't think this can be wired to an existing system? It doesn't have the receptacles on the back like the wired units do. So, as far as I can tell, you'd have to replace them all. As an aside, I left my wired system in place (4 detectors) and just installed 2 of these. I figured if we're home the wired system will alert us inside the house. If we aren't home the zwave alarms will trigger eventually, but potentially not as quick (depending on source of smoke) without the same number of detectors. |
Question: | are they hard wire? (120v with battery backup) and do they have an interconnect wire |
Answer: | No, thus they are not code compliant in most jurisdictions since interconnect is often required. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would this device work in a 6' x 6' hunting blind with a Mr. Heater heating unit |
Answer: | Not for sure but wife read that rhey can fluxiate between 0-3 with no problems mine does it also |
Question: | your cob b lcm coc allarm is 15$ 6 is 99$ . why does quantity coct more |
Answer: | When I used the digital gas detector to test it worked fine. |
Question: | How far apart are the mounting holes |
Answer: | There are two possible causes. The unit was not zeroed out upon activation or you do have a very low level of gas in your home atmosphere, with the first being my best guess. Unplug and move and re-check the reading. If this does not resolve the issue send it back for a new one. Mine has worked well for 6 months so far. |
Question: | Why is the 2 pack more than 2 times the price of the single detector |
Answer: | I returned these detectors. They don't have any information printed on the case - no manufacturer name, no instructions, no UL approved indicator, etc. These were made in China which is usually okay but I am not comfortable in relying on them to protect my family. I will be researching further and looking for better detectors that can be trusted. |

Answer: | The model of the red dot for green laser is different ,the magnification of that 2 is different |
Question: | This device is able to work with another apps like smart life? or i need to use onelink app exclusively |
Answer: | the confusion doesn't end there apparently these are made under 3 or 4 brand names but they are the same exact product over all I tried finding all the ones that were in this magnification and had holographic sight, green laser and all that, and I only notice minor cosmetic differences, the UUQ one looks the best cause it has the brand name painted on it but its identical to this one still, im not really a fan of when companies do that though I know it happens, cause im trying to find the best overall offering from them with the easiest way to control the brightness on the dot sight.. I don't really want to stick an allen key in it to do it and it looks like some have knob brightness controls.. ill keep looking. |

Question: | of 5 product photos on this listing are of a mini-fridge, not a CO deterctor? Does not give me much confidence in seller if listing is not correct |
Answer: | Me owning both a 44mm and a 50mm I’d say if you want one for lower light go 50mm. I’ve heard that it doesn’t matter but like I said i have both.. the 50mm you can see earlier in the morning and later into the night.. only down side is if your facing a sun rise or a sun down the 50mm absorbs to much light causing a glare.. you can buy a screw in extender that takes care of that tho.. hope That helped |
Question: | How often does it need calibration and what is the cost? Thanks you |
Answer: | This is an amazing scope. Like the others have said handling a 416 rigby and a 338 win mag itll hold up to the 7.62x39 for sure. I know ur thinking probably about the continual jarring of a semi automatic but this scope holds up just fine. Best thing is u cant go wrong with vortexes warranty. I have two a 2-7x32 on my 375 HH, and a 3-9x40 on my .30.06, and only had one issue on the 3-9x40 from a shooting trip after i got it home i guess it got knocked around too hard and there was like dirt inside of the glass. I called vortex they sent me a sgipping label and said well fix it ir replace it and in a week or two i got my scope back good as new. I love vortex the scopes are great, and the customer service cant be beat. |
Question: | What is the accuracy |

User questions & answers
Question: | My entire home is equipped with BRK smoke detector (4120 B) and Carbon Monox Det (CO50120B). They need replacing. Will new BRK fit extant casings |
Answer: | Hello. No. Our current alarms do not work with First Alert alarms and they are not compatible. They will either need to be all Kidde or all First Alert. |
Question: | can these be connected together so if one is set off they all go off |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | How does the Alarm Latch feature "easily identify initiating alarm"? This is major problem with false alarms on my existing Kidde/Firex dual alarms |
Answer: | Up to 12 smoke or smoke + CO alarms can be connected, along with up to 6 non-alarm devices, such as strobes and horns. This is per the manufacturer's website. |
Question: | Can a BRK Model 92120B smoke detector directly plug in and replace an old BRK Model 4120B smoke detector (without an adapter |
Answer: | Hello. While the alarms are going off, the alarm setting off all of the others, the red LED light and then the green LED light will blink, every second. The other alarms will just have the red. If they stop on their own, the alarm that set off all of the others will have a red and amber LED light flashing one second each every 10 seconds. If you are getting nuisance alarms, we would recommend going ahead and blowing out all of the alarms around the back side edges very thoroughly with a can of compressed air like a can of keyboard cleaner. This will go a long way to avoiding nuisance alarms. Feel free to call us at 1-800-880-6788 with the problem alarm in hand if this doesn't help. |
