10 best sump pump 12vs
A 12-volt sump pump is a specific type of water pump designed to be powered by a 12-volt direct current (DC) power source. Here's what you should know about it:
Purpose and Function: A sump pump is used to remove water that has accumulated in a sump pit, typically found in basements or crawl spaces. This helps prevent flooding and water damage to a building's foundation.
Power Source: The "12vs" in the term indicates that this particular sump pump operates on a 12-volt DC power source. This can be a car battery, a dedicated 12-volt battery, or a backup power system.
Backup or Portable Usage: 12-volt sump pumps are often used as backup pumps in case of power outages, where they can be connected to a backup battery. They are also popular for portable applications, such as in boats or RVs, where 12-volt power systems are common.
Installation: Installing a 12-volt sump pump typically involves setting up a sump pit in the lowest point of a basement or crawl space. The pump is then placed in the pit, and a discharge pipe is connected to carry the water away from the building.
Types of 12-Volt Sump Pumps:
- Submersible: These pumps are designed to be fully submerged in water. They are placed directly in the sump pit and are more common for residential applications.
- Pedestal: In this type, the motor is mounted above the sump pit, while the pump is at the bottom. They are not submerged in water and are often used in older homes.
Flow Rate and Head Pressure: Like other sump pumps, the performance of a 12-volt sump pump is measured in terms of flow rate (how much water it can move per minute) and head pressure (how high it can pump water).
Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as cleaning debris from the pit and checking for any signs of wear or damage, is important to ensure the pump's reliability.
Backup Systems: Many 12-volt sump pumps are part of a backup system that includes a battery and a charger. This ensures that the pump will continue to operate even during power outages.
Safety Considerations: It's crucial to install a sump pump correctly and to have a backup system in place, especially in areas prone to flooding. Regular testing and maintenance of the system are essential.
Remember that the specific features and capabilities of a 12-volt sump pump can vary between models and manufacturers, so it's important to consult the product's documentation for precise details and instructions.

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the PSI or max head (pumping vertical height) of this pump |
Answer: | Length of hose for a sump pump is not nearly as important as lift. you can have a long horizontal run with only minor flow loss. Friction loss (the loss from hose length) at these low pressures is very small. The elevation (aka lift) is the true limiting factor. (PSI means pounds per square inch, FYI, the water pressure coming into your house from the main is about 50-80psi, someone wondered what psi meant). Based on the chart, this pump moves about 30 gallons per minute (gpm). If you lift ten feet the flow drops to about 20 gpm; at 20 feet of lift it's flowing about 10 gpm. I have used this with vinegar to flush my tankless water heater and I used it with about 50/50 mix of simple green and water in a 5 gallon bucket as a parts washer for motorcycle parts and the pump is fine. I do flush it with clean water when I am done. |
Question: | Does it have an automatic shut off |
Answer: | The pump does not have an automatic shut off. I added a float switch because I wanted it to pump out a sink that had a slow-running clogged drain where I had the washing machine. When the sink was mostly pumped out the float switch turned off the pump. It worked great for a couple years until I got around to dealing with snaking the drain which didn't have an easy clean-out. This is a good pump, since the sink drain got taken care of, we've been using the pump to pump koi pond water over a 5' fence to our neighbor's garden using about 150' of garden hose. The pump runs continuously for 5+ hours without issues in this process. |
Question: | Will clothes washer hoses fit on this pump |
Answer: | The pump itself fits a garden hose nicely. You can buy the attachment package listed next to it for the converter piece. It only came to around $8.00. It also comes with a larger hose. I didn't need it for my spa but if you need to empty a washer or bigger pool it seems like it would come in handy. Hope that helps. Good luck. :-) |
Question: | Can this be user to flush a tankless heater with vinigar |
Answer: | I bought the pump for this very reason. I'm not sure if it is rated to handle vinegar, but at the price I figured I'd try it and see. I have two tankless water heaters, and I wanted a pump that could clean out both at the same time and this pump certainly does the job. I have a hose that runs from the pump, into a splitter. From the splitter I have two hoses going to each water heater (one hose per water heater). Even pushing water through two hoses, it still has a strong flow, with each hose pushing about the same flow as the water hose faucet outside your house opened wide open (guestimate). The splitter I have allows me to adjust the flow rate by closing off some valves if it is too strong. For just one water heater, i would think this pump is too strong (as it REALLY moves water), but I'm not a plumber so I couldn't say for sure. If I were to do it again, I think I would have purchased the 1/4 HP pump, or even the 1/5HP for cleaning out water heaters with vinegar. I cleaned out my water heater this week for the first time using this pump. I let it run for 2 hrs, and I noticed that it got warm (about the temp of a warm-to-hot bath). I'm not sure if that is normal, but thought I'd let you know. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I got this hooked up and activated the float to test. The pump activated, but when I lowered the float it kept running. Is the controller defective |
Answer: | When the float switch for the backup pump is activated, he pump will run on a timer which is usually around 25-30 seconds. I would recommend testing it again and give it at least a minute to shut off. For further information contact our service team at 800-991-0466 option 3. |
Question: | Can this run semi-continuous while connected to AC power when main pump fails? Wayne controller had burning smell while charging and running |
Answer: | The unit has its' own floats, so the pump will run when the water level raises the float, so it depends on where you place the backup pump float. Place it above the main unit float so if the water level continues to rise due to a failed main pump, the backup pump will kick-in. |
Question: | If my main pump fails will the back up kick in |
Answer: | That will only happen if you have the battery back-up unit in Working order. It is designed to kick in when the power fails or if the power has been out and the float switch on the main unit is activated and then the battery unit takes over. You need to consult the owner's manual for the exact info. |
Question: | battery run time |
Answer: | It really would depend on the type of battery ,marine battery deep cycle works best. and the amount of water entering your basement . From a few hours to all day |

Sump Pumps/Battery Back-Up Pumps
The most common water pump. Sump pumps are automatic pumps used to remove ground water from sump pits and transfer basement drainage to prevent residential flooding.
Battery Back-Up Pumps are added in addition to your primary sump, and are powered off a 12 Volt battery. This completes your sump pump system and provides additional protection to remove ground water during a power outage, primary pump failure or heavy rain.
Sewage Pumps
Sewage Pumps are automatic pumps used in heavy duty applications. Common applications include pumping waste from a bathroom to a sewer or septic line is a common application.
Utility Pumps
Utility pumps are multi-purpose pumps. Uses range from everyday applications around your home, to occasional use. Typical applications include removing standing water off basement floors or construction sites, draining aquariums and water beds.
Well Pumps
Well pumps are used to deliver water from an underground water source to your home, however, they are not submersible and are usually placed outside the well in a well housing. Well pumps can pump water from wells up to 25 feet deep. Well pumps can also be used as booster pumps.

User questions & answers
Question: | does this pump come with a battery |
Answer: | The pump does not come with a battery. |
Question: | Can anyone please recommend a battery to purchase for this unit |
Answer: | Make sure you get a size 27 deep cycle marine/rv battery, but pay the extra money for an AGM type. I bought the standard one for $81 at Sam’s Club, and it worked fine at first, but it died in 2 years because I did not check and maintain the water levels. After much research I realize that I should have paid the $159 price for the AGM version (maintenance free), and all would be well. I also got into the habit of unplugging the regular pump and dumping a 5 gallon bucket of water down to trigger and exercise the backup system fully. |
Question: | What size pvc pipe goes into the single fitting at the top of the unit, and what method are you using to attach it? Thanks |
Answer: | I glued a three-foot section of 1-1/2" PVD pipe to the wye-fitting at the top of the pump assemble. At the top of the three-foot section I used an 1-1/2" Fernco rubber coupler with stainless steel clamps to connect it to the drain line. You're going to love this pump. It's the quietest pump I've ever heard. |
Question: | Is it ok to connect to the primary pumps PVC before the check valve, eliminating the need for 2 check valves |
Answer: | No, you need a check valve for each pump. This happened to my sump pump installation: Over time, the flapper (acts like the valve) in the check valve deformed a little, detached from its hinge point(s), and ended up in the FRONT part of the body. This meant that when water was being pumped out of the sump, the water forced the flapper into the check valve opening... BLOCKING the flow! The check valve ended up working backwards, basically. With the water unable to flow, after enough time, the sump pump burned itself out. If two pumps are feeding through just one check valve, the same thing could happen to both pumps. Each pump needs its own check valve. It's OK for the discharge lines to merge afterwards. BTW: If you really depend of a reliable sump pump installation, spend the extra $30-$50 bucks and get a couple of industrial-strength check valves (regardless if you have a single or double-pump system). They will be "out of sight and out of mind" parts of your installation; you need to KNOW that they'll last! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Could this pump be hooked up to a battery on an idling truck |
Answer: | I supppose so, since it runs off 12v |
Question: | how do you attach this as a back up sump pump? Any guidance is appreciated |
Answer: | There are directions in the guide. Essentially you attach it to your main sump pipe a little higher up from your primary pump and position the float switch along the same pipe so it'll trigger if it gets above the point where your primary pump float switch is located at. You will need to buy some additional PVC pieces most likely (like a Wye fitting, a 45 degree angle pipe, and a check valve) and you'll need to cut your primary pipe to bring in the pipe line coming from the backup pump. I had some issues getting the float switch at the right level since I had to put the switch higher than it showed it in the diagram in the guide but overall it wasn't too tough to do myself and I'm not the handiest when it comes to home improvement. |
Question: | Does the alarm reset itself or does it continuously sound the alarm until manually reset |
Answer: | Hi there, The alarm will sound continuously until you reset it. You can disable the audible alarm, like if you know the primary pump is not running like during a power outage, by holding the MUTE ALARM button until it beeps at you, about 10-12 seconds. You can reset it by doing the same thing when you are ready. Thanks |
Question: | How big is the pump |
Answer: | Hi there, The pump itself has a foot print of 5 7/8" x 5 1/2" and is 8" tall Thanks |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this pump have a filter or strainer to keep debris from clogging the discharge line? The water I need to pump is not always perfectly clean |
Answer: | The blue base has slits/vents on the bottom as seen in the photo - that is the "strainer". I have had no problem from leaves or other debris clogging the pump. |
Question: | Dose it have to have a check vale hooked up if the hole for pumping is at the bottom of the boat |
Answer: | Yes. After it is done pumping water does not back flow into the boat |
Question: | What size hose outlet |
Answer: | Not sure. It fit the hose in my boat. 3/4 inch? guess. |
Question: | Does this have to be hooked up to an inline fuse or can it be hooked directly to battery |
Answer: | You can hook it directly to your battery and it will work. |

User questions & answers
Question: | want to use this for sump backup Anyone try this? Also can a float switch be hooked to it |
Answer: | 3 pcs 120w solar panels shoud put for best run performance |
Question: | Do ikt need a check valve |
Answer: | You are absolutely correct. This unit does not work under Solar power at all.The unit ran for 8 hours on batteries now it does not work at all. This is some of brand Chinese unit. Not worth the postsge. |
Question: | What are the max and min operating temperatures for this pump |
Answer: | Not certain, however based on design the unitnis more intended for unpressurized use. I am installing mine to fill 1000 gallon holding tank then run a 24v pressure pump off the holding tank to run irrigation |
Question: | What kind of flow does it have for a 12' or 15' lift |
Answer: | You need to remove panels, the Maximum power of this pump is 600watts. So the 6 solar panels are too many. |
Product features
Diverse Power Supply
During the sunny weather, you can work directly with a solar panel. However, a cloud could lead into the solar panels losing sunlight and consequently cause the pump to halt work.
If you need the pump to steadily work for above 6 hours, we recommend you follow the power supply method on the left. The specific configurations are as follows:
One 12V 100W solar panel + One 20A controller + One 70AH battery + Water pump
Note: The controller is to protect the pump from overload
Diverse Use Scenarios
The filter screen at the base ensures the pump is not wrapped around by algae around the impeller.
The large flow of 20GPM can satisfyingly serve watering of a small garden/farm.
The 20ft head can be used for domestic well pumping. However, only for wells with a water depth of less than 6 meters.
Note: When not in use for a long time, please take the pump out of the water to avoid corrosion of the rubber seal ring by weak alkaline water (such as sea water).
It can't pump lots of water like it was advertised?
The positive and negative poles of your pump may be reversed, please connect the red wire to the positive pole. Reversed negative and positive poles will not affect the service life, but will greatly reduce the flow and lift.
My pump stops working three months later?
- Check the power supply system firstly to see if the battery is working properly.
- Working vibration may cause the connector loosen, so check whether the power cord is connected well.
- Clean the impeller and restart this pump.
- Request BACOENG For A Replacement if Above Methods Were Tried
Can I use it in dirty water?
Not Recommended. The 3mm filter port can effectively filter large particle impurities. A 1 cm high foot prevents the inhalation of sludge. However, if the impellers are blocked, pump will break down quickly.
