User questions & answers
Question: | Is the unit really 35' wide |
Answer: | Yup. |
Question: | Does this unit work in a mobile home located in California |
Answer: | You really would need to check with your local code enforcement officer. Even within California, codes would vary from one municipality to another. |
Question: | Will these heaters start on a battery backup |
Answer: | As long as your battery back up had an inverter built in to convert to AC and met the power requirements, I’m sure that would be fine. Keep in mind that the fan would have a substantial draw on electric supply |
Question: | What accessories are available for a vent extension |
Answer: | I found two types of vent extensions available. The straight one that extends through the wall is available for different thicknesses of walls. No additional or add on straight extension was available. The other is a pair of tubes, one for exhaust and one for intake, that essentially moves the wall vent to another location. This extension kit might be available in two different lengths--can't recall for sure on that. The installation manual that comes with the unit is also available online and has some very important information on vent and extension location requirements. Also may need local codes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this Rheem suffer from the "cold water sandwich" problem |
Answer: | Hot water is only produced when there is demand for it and there is a short delay while the water is heated. So, you can get a momentary cool water output, but I would not call it a problem. In fact, I hardly notice if it happens. |
Question: | What is the difference between the RTGH-95DVLN & RTG-95DVLN models |
Answer: | The Rheem RTG series are Direct Vent indoor and outdoor models; the Rheem Prestige RTGH is a series of high efficiency condensing tankless indoor and outdoor gas water heaters designed for continuous hot water. |
Question: | how much gas does this use at when running. How many CCF. I currently have a 80 gallon high efficiency hot water now. Can I use this connection or do I need to run a 3/4 in gas line directly from the meter |
Answer: | The Rheem water heater uses 199,000 BTU or about 200 CF or 2 CCF. The Rheem installation manual is available on the Rheem web site. On page 53 of the manual, the manufacturer lists the minimum NG pipe size as 3/4 inch diameter. Typically, a tank type water heater has a 1/2 inch supply line that is reduced from a 3/4 inch or larger main supply line. So, you will need to replace the smaller gas line from the original reduction point to your new Rheem tankless water heater. |
Question: | I own a 4 bedroom house. I noticed Home Depot has a Rheem Ecosense 200DVLN. Would this one you have be sufficient |
Answer: | Based on Rheems' product information on their web site and the product specifications on The Home Depot web site, Rheem makes two sizes of tankless natural gas fuels water heaters. One is rated at 8.4 gallons per minute and the other size is 9.5 gpm. Rheem also makes these two sizes in both "condensing" type and "non-condensing" type. The Rheem Ecosense line seems to be just a slight re-branding for The Home Depot and the re-branded product does not seem to be any different than the standard Rheem product sold on Amazon. The Rheem Ecosense ECOH200DVLN at The Home Depot seem to be the same as the RTGH-95DVLN 9.5 sold on Amazon. they are both condensing type (most efficient and easiest to vent) an they both produce a maximum of 9.5 gpm of hot water. Both are the largest capacity models made by Rheem. I have a 4200 sq. ft home with three bathrooms. We can have two showers going and the dishwasher with no reduction in hot water temperature even in the winter (near Chicago) when the inlet water is very cold. So, I would say that the Rheem RTGH-95DVLN 9.5 gpm unit will meet your hot water needs. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My plumber is looking for the exhaust venting for this tankless hot water heater.. Pipe for exhaust, 90 degree iPod, gasget? Help |
Answer: | The exhaust pipe in the manual is this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ED10Y6C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |
Question: | Will this suffice for a 4 bathroom home in Dallas? Looking at temperature rise of ~45 degrees (110 desired minus 65 groundwater temperature |
Answer: | It's 10 gal/min... if you have a shower that is NOT a water saver and uses 6 gal/min... someone is going to miss out, no problem on the 45 deg rise, but we find that 130 deg is more desirable and still no problem in Albuquerque where the water temp MAY go into the 30s but most likely not less than about 45... HTH |
Question: | Where is it manufactured |
Answer: | JAPAN by one of the best hot water heater manufacturers in the world. Few if any can compair with Takagi, IMHO! Best unit I have ever installed, bar-none! |
Question: | what does "condensing" mean in this case |
Answer: | I can't stop laughing after reading the answers + there are 11 people with less clue who found the "explanations" useful... Guys, please allow me to explain the process: The condensation units have a secondary heat exchanger which takes the exhaust from regular 80% efficiency and "works" the water again in order to heat it even more, while cooling down the exhaust. Doing so the exhaust will be cool and it will condensate. This condensed exhaust will run down the vent and is gathered in an internal tray from where it goes to the condensation drain. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES is the condensed exhaust in contact with your hot (or cold) water. By re-using your exhaust (hot), the efficiency will show on paper an additional 15% -17% added to the standard 80% of a conventional water heater. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can you use 5/8 propane pipe or do you have to use 1/2 inch? I have a bunch of 5/8 inch and wanted to use it |
Answer: | I used 1/2" soft copper tubing from the propane tank to where it entered the building. From that point we used standard steel black pipe-probably 1/2"pipe. I don't know what 5/8 propane pipe is. Do you mean 5/8" dia. copper tubing? As far as I know pipe sizes come in these designations:1/8",1/4", 1/2" 3/4",1', etc. The numbers refer to the inside dimension of the pipe-(the opening,) not the outside dia.I do not know of a 5/8" pipe. It's best if you don't try and improvise. Follow the mfrs. instructions. Your home is worth more than something you have a "bunch of" already. If you are talking 5/8"dia. copper tubing I don't think that would be a problem but like a previous responder said: 1/2" dia.copper tubing is pretty much a standard |
Question: | Is the hook up kit (hose) shown in frequently bought together necessary |
Answer: | The unit came with the required shutoff valve and I just had to go to Home Depot and pick up the gas line with the length I needed for my hook up. It was pretty inexpensive getting the hose there. |
Question: | What is the btu rating of the fc824p heater |
Answer: | output on low 6000 btu high 16000 btu |
Question: | We have been researching the rinnai fc824p are there sea level specifications we need to be concerned about we are at 4000 ft |
Answer: | I use two of these units, one in my pump house and one in a portion of my barn that has water. I'm at 7,000 feet and they work great. The one thing I had to do is to add a UPS to give the units constant power for when the power goes out. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work in High altitude |
Answer: | Just opened mine and the "cautions" and "general instructions" are rather adamant about saying: DO NOT INSTALL ABOVE 5,200 feet. Our EX22CP also said it was good at high altitude, but that manual under Specifications says it is for installation at altitudes up to 10,200 feet. Here in Western Colorado, folks in our valley's wouldn't be able to use this. We're at 8'000 feet, so I guess it is going back. REALLY disappointing. |
Question: | can this heater be accessed via the internet |
Answer: | You would need a wifi thermostat. |
Question: | Is it metal construction |
Answer: | No its plastic |
Question: | how many btus |
Answer: | Unless I am having trouble reading, THERE IS NO BTU RATING... This is a very poor ad. Will it run on battery alone? |

Answer: | Rinnai sells a conversion kit to convert to propane. If you have not purchased yet, I would get the propane version. I had a larger Rinnai that was propane and we purchased the conversion kit. Hired a plumber and he could not get them changed out. So we ended up buying the Ng model |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the temperature output be adjusted to 105F |
Answer: | Most rinnai tankless weather it is out door or indoor, have a control board to adjust temp and either on or off |
Question: | Can I use the Rinnai V65EP in Denver, Co? Temperatures during the winter can get below zero |
Answer: | It can definately be out doors in freezing temps, tho power failure arent good for it while in a freeze, tho keep in mind it will use alot more energy for frost protection, indoor units are safer amd more efficient in this case |
Question: | Does this unit come with controller? rinnai tech said i needed a mc-91-2us controller? do i need to buy separate |
Answer: | I bought model V65EN. It came with a wired digital controller. The installer did not run the wire into the house and mount the controller indoors. He simply set the controller at 120 degrees and left the controller inside the unit. If I want to change the temp, I have to take the cover of the unit. |
Question: | What does the "Low NOx Mean |
Answer: | Good place to check for info like this is Wikipedia. Here is what they say: Energy efficiencieseditMore tangible cost savings are defined when comparing the energy efficiencies of gas heaters with low NOx emissions with conventional flued types. Gas heaters with emission problems are flued and inherently lose substantial energies in the form of hot flue gases to the atmosphere. In addition, the choice of placement of flued heaters is greatly impaired due to flue installation restrictions. In contrast, dedicated low emission gas heaters do not require a flue system. Furthermore, with the introduction of oxygen depletion sensors and thermostatic controls, they do not place critical reliance on ventilation as previously was the case. These heaters can be positioned more conveniently and centralised to affect optimum warm air distribution. By definition unflued low NOx gas heaters are 100% efficient as all heat energy released from the flame is converted to useful heat.Hope this helps. June |
