12 best eco instant hot water heater
Eco-friendly instant hot water heaters, also known as tankless water heaters, are innovative appliances designed to provide hot water on-demand while minimizing energy consumption and environmental impact. Here's what you need to know about these devices:
On-Demand Heating: Eco instant hot water heaters heat water only when needed, as opposed to traditional tank water heaters that continuously heat and store a large volume of water. This on-demand heating method helps to reduce energy waste.
Energy Efficiency: Tankless water heaters are known for their high energy efficiency. They operate more efficiently because they don't suffer from standby heat loss, which occurs in tank-style heaters. This results in lower energy bills and a reduced carbon footprint.
Reduced Water Waste: Tankless water heaters eliminate the need for waiting for the water in a storage tank to heat up. This means you don't waste water by running the tap and waiting for it to get hot.
Space-Saving: Tankless heaters are compact and wall-mounted, saving valuable space in your home compared to bulky tank-style water heaters.
Longevity: Tankless water heaters typically have a longer lifespan than traditional tank heaters, which means fewer units end up in landfills over time.
Multiple Fuel Options: Tankless heaters can be powered by electricity, natural gas, or propane, giving consumers the flexibility to choose the most eco-friendly option based on their energy source.
Lower Emissions: Gas-powered tankless water heaters are designed to emit fewer greenhouse gases compared to tank-style gas heaters, further reducing their environmental impact.
Precise Temperature Control: Modern tankless water heaters offer precise temperature control, allowing users to set their desired hot water temperature. This reduces the need for mixing cold water and can help conserve water.
Regular Maintenance: To maintain their efficiency, tankless water heaters may require periodic descaling or flushing to remove mineral deposits, but this is a minor maintenance task compared to the upkeep of tank-style heaters.
Cost Considerations: While tankless water heaters can be more energy-efficient in the long run, they typically have a higher upfront cost than traditional tank heaters. However, the energy savings can often offset the initial investment over time.
Sizing: Choosing the right-sized tankless water heater is essential to ensure it can meet your hot water demand. Consult with a professional to determine the appropriate size for your household.
Eco-friendly instant hot water heaters offer a more sustainable and efficient way to meet your hot water needs. They can help reduce energy consumption, save on utility bills, and have a lower environmental impact compared to traditional tank-style water heaters. When considering an eco instant hot water heater, it's essential to evaluate your household's hot water usage and choose the appropriate size and energy source to maximize efficiency.

This Smart Technology electric tankless water heater is configured as a "whole home" model for climates where incoming water temperature is 67°F and above. This model is well suited for heating up to 2-Gallon per minute, which is the equivalent of one shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 67°F and an output setting of 105°F. Digital Temperature Control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1 Degree. This model can also be used in colder climates as a Point of Use for a sink or other low flow application. All tankless water heaters are sized based on flow rate and temperature rise, and there is a direct relationship between the two. So if used in a cold area requiring a high temperature rise, it will be more limited in the amount of fixtures (gallons per minute) it can heat at one time compared to a warmer climate. When sized properly this water heater will provide endless hot water and only consume the energy needed, giving the user complete control. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. The ECO 11 requires a minimum 125 amp electrical panel for installation with 60 amp double pole breaker connected to set of #6 awg wire. Plumbing connections are 1/2" compression fitting with the option of 1/2" NPT adapter included. For additional assistance please feel free to contact our support center at 877-474-6473.
NOTE : 11Kw at 220 is equal to 13kw at 240. .Activation Flow : 0.3 GPM

User questions & answers
Question: | Ours has only been in service for less than a year - will not adjust temperature to anything above 85 Deg. F. What do you think is the problem ? kds |
Answer: | My only guess is that the rheostat (variable resistor) that the temperature adjustment knob is attached to may be faulty. If that isn't it then I don't know. Sorry. |
Question: | The warrenty says that this unit must be installed by a licensed electrician and plumber, for them to honor the "life time warrenty." why |
Answer: | Hello Bob, The reason is the same as why an innumerable number of gadgets around the world have that little "warranty void if removed" label. Because getting inside of one requires a certain level of training and expertise. Same with this unit. GadgetsGo is an authorized Ecosmart dealer. Kind regards,HenryGadgetsGo |
Question: | My house is wired 110V. What additional items do I need to purchase for the conversion |
Answer: | Just to expand slightly on prior answers, normally a residential service feed is 240 volts between the two incoming hot legs. There is also a neutral leg, which (hopefully) has zero potential with reference to ground. The voltage between either one of the hot legs and the neutral leg is 120 volts. The 120 volt circuits in your house are connected to one or the other of the two hot legs, and only one. An attempt is made to assign circuits to the two hot legs in a way that will roughly balance the load between them. The other side of a 120 volt circuit is connected to the neutral leg. There is additionally a safety ground run with the circuit, which also ties into the panel. Certain devices require more power (work product of current and voltage) than is practical to deliver using a 120 volt circuit. Common examples are your clothes dryer, and your electric stove. These devices are powered by both hot legs, with a difference in potential of 240 volts. This water heater is also such a device.STRONG BUT FRIENDLY WARNING: If you did not already know this, please don't make wiring this water heater your learning opportunity with electricity. Hire someone who knows how to do it right. Cutting corners, especially with higher currents and voltages, can lead to equipment damage, fire, and electrocution. Electricity is not magic, and you can certainly learn how to do many common wiring tasks safely on your own, but today is not the day to begin that journey. You need properly sized components, properly installed, and connected to an adequate service. Also, if you really, really foul up, you could conceivably wind up making that morning shower more energizing than you ever imagined, if you get what I mean. So newly aspiring electricians should go fix their grandmother's favorite table lamp instead. Once they have that working they can use it to to start reading books about electricity, residential wiring, and eventually, books about this stuff: http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_8?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=nec+code&sprefix=nec+code%2Caps%2C164 . Of course, you still have to know not to nick conductors when you strip them, and other trade craft like that ; ) . Like almost everything in life that is fun, electricity will hurt you. Sort of like all those people you dated for a while, and then wished later you had never met. |
Question: | what amp breaker is required |
Answer: | The National Electrical Code requires conductors and overcurrent protection to be sized at 100% of the manufacturer's branch circuit recommendation for tankless electric water heaters. A 60 amp breaker is the same price as a 40 or 50, it is the wire that costs more. #6 AWG wire is required for a 60 amp circuit. If you undersize the wire it could overheat and catch fire. Protect your family and follow the manufacturer's sizing for this, or any other, electrical device. Your family's lives are worth the extra money. |

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water
Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.
Step 2: Next you will determine how many applications your unit can run simultaneously at your chosen location inlet water temperature. Tankless electric water heaters are sized for maximum simultaneous use, not maximum fixtures in your home.
Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.

User questions & answers
Question: | How do know which size to buy? We will supply two bathrooms, dish washer, clothes washer. What size should I choose |
Answer: | I noted someone below stating they got the largest one and they can only run one water source at a time. My guess is they installed it wrong by not getting the electric hooked up right, or maybe the unit was just defective, or they live in Alaska. I went under size with an Eco 27 a few years ago because that’s all my electric panel could handle. We have zero issues in the summer. During winter months we can only run one shower at a time and have to slowly fill a tub (maybe 3/4 fill speed). To save as much money as I am on electric bill and have unlimited shower lengths (only 1 person at a time mid-Dec to mid-March) is totally worth it. On here today because I’m thinking of upping my panel size so was thinking of going with a larger one now. Regardless, CCRC’s experience with the largest unit not working is nothing like the experience I’ve had, and again I intentionally undersized mine for the house. The website has a clear chart to explain size you need based on number of water fixtures in your home and ground water temperature. |
Question: | Can this unit supply a 3,700 sq foot home with 3 1/2 baths |
Answer: | In the lower states it can, but in the northern states, multiple simultaneous users, it will be overloaded. If you can afford a 3,700 square foot home, then you can place a unit in each appropriate demand zone and be very glad you did. I love mine, live in KY, get great supply when the water is above 60 degrees, and then it slows the flow as the temperature drops. I have dishwasher, washing machine, garden tube, 2 showers, 3 sinks and 4 people. It is better than great in the summer, okay spring and fall, and we are conservative in the winter. |
Question: | What is the power consumption of this tank-less heater |
Answer: | The instantaneous power consumption while the hot water is running is quite high (up to 18kW or 27kW depending on which model you’re looking at on this page). However, when no hot water is being used, the power consumption is 0 (or a minuscule amount to run an LED light or something). The total power consumption over the course of several days or longer should be much lower than a tank heater but the short term power usage while the heater is making hot water will be much higher than a tank heater. It’s just that the unit sits idle most of the time while a tank heater will use power fairly frequently even when no hot water is needed as the water in the tank cools off over time and needs to be re-heater fairly constantly |
Question: | remote |
Answer: | This unit does not have the ability to have a remote temperature control. |

Question: | Can the flow rate be adjusted up from 0.5gpm to say 1gpm or 1.5gpm (understood that the output water will be corresponding less hotter)? thanks in adv |
Answer: | This is a 199,000 btu model, a 3/4" gas line is required to have sufficient gas supply. |
Question: | degree water going in what degree will be at the tap |
Answer: | rinnai recommends the GTK03 Grundfos kit for this unit |
Question: | are any of these tankless water heaters plug in |
Answer: | I think, you need buy a WiFi module, call Rennai and ask. Circ-logic did not work for me, I had to install re circulation pipe. Because of the high minimum flow requirements, this unit did not work with any regular re circulation pump, so wasted money buying a Watts pump. And paid double for the labor. Rennai told me that I should have bought their thankless heater with re-circulation built in. |
Question: | Would you recommend this model for a shower in a guest bathroom |
Answer: | IT CAME WITH ADAPTERS ON THE TOP. NO PIPING. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I understand this unit, the ECO 24, requires 3 - 220 (double) breakers. What amperage for each |
Answer: | 40 amp 240v breakers (2 pole breakers) |
Question: | Will this Eco 24 system work with a dedicated 100A sub-panel off a 200A service panel |
Answer: | I'm not an electrician, but in your situation, all the power is coming from the main service panel. You should consult with an electrician to calculate your maximum load. I've had no issues with my Eco 24 running 3-40 amp breakers off a 200 amp service panel. If you have a heat pump you could be pushing the limit at certain times. Be safe, consult an electrician. |
Question: | will this work to fill up small jacuzzi |
Answer: | Hello Oscar. This unit is not intended for a Jacuzzi due to the flow rate that the Jacuzzi requires. Instead, Ecosmart manufactures a product specifically for this. It is the Smart SPA and we have it for sale on our Amazon store. GadgetsGo is an Authorized Ecosmart Dealer.Kind Regards,Ross GadgetsGo |
Question: | i have 6 bathrooms, 2 laundry rooms will one do the job? or i need two |
Answer: | Hello Raz,Thank you for your question. I am replying in less than one hour, after business hours, to expedite your request.Actually it does not matter how many bathrooms your home has. What matters is how many points of use that you will use at the same time. So to determine whether this or any tankless heater will work, just add up the total water flow rate in gallons per minute ("GPM") of all your points of use. A shower flow rate can range from 1.5 to 2.5 GPM. A bathroom sink: 0.75 GPM. A clothes washer: 3 to 4 GPM.So, if you expect only to have one shower and one sink running at the same time, this will give you at least 105F hot water, if your incoming cold water temp is above about 55F.Please let me know if I can assist you further.Kind Regards,Ross KelsonGadgetsGoP.S. If you have found my answer helpful, please prefer us when you purchase. You will continue to get priceless service after the sale. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the temperature output be adjusted to 105F |
Answer: | Most rinnai tankless weather it is out door or indoor, have a control board to adjust temp and either on or off |
Question: | Can I use the Rinnai V65EP in Denver, Co? Temperatures during the winter can get below zero |
Answer: | It can definately be out doors in freezing temps, tho power failure arent good for it while in a freeze, tho keep in mind it will use alot more energy for frost protection, indoor units are safer amd more efficient in this case |
Question: | Does this unit come with controller? rinnai tech said i needed a mc-91-2us controller? do i need to buy separate |
Answer: | I bought model V65EN. It came with a wired digital controller. The installer did not run the wire into the house and mount the controller indoors. He simply set the controller at 120 degrees and left the controller inside the unit. If I want to change the temp, I have to take the cover of the unit. |
Question: | What does the "Low NOx Mean |
Answer: | Good place to check for info like this is Wikipedia. Here is what they say: Energy efficiencieseditMore tangible cost savings are defined when comparing the energy efficiencies of gas heaters with low NOx emissions with conventional flued types. Gas heaters with emission problems are flued and inherently lose substantial energies in the form of hot flue gases to the atmosphere. In addition, the choice of placement of flued heaters is greatly impaired due to flue installation restrictions. In contrast, dedicated low emission gas heaters do not require a flue system. Furthermore, with the introduction of oxygen depletion sensors and thermostatic controls, they do not place critical reliance on ventilation as previously was the case. These heaters can be positioned more conveniently and centralised to affect optimum warm air distribution. By definition unflued low NOx gas heaters are 100% efficient as all heat energy released from the flame is converted to useful heat.Hope this helps. June |

User questions & answers
Question: | questions. does the fan run continuously? Is there a 12v version? thanks |
Answer: | Hello. Yes, when the I12-LP is heating water, the fan will run. There is no 12v version of this model. Here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009EDGTXG/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= is an indoor propane tankless heater with a battery ignition.GadgetsGo is an Authorized Eccotemp Dealer.Kind Regards,Ross KGadgetsGo |
Question: | does it have an electronic pilot light |
Answer: | Good Day, Dennis! Our Eccotemp i12-NG is a fully automated tankless water heater. There is no Pilot light, but the front panel display would tell you everything from ignition to full operation. Our i12 is a flow activated water heater.Thank you!Eccotemp Systems LLC |
Question: | Does it run on propane? It came up in my search for propane tankless water heaters but it's not labled as such |
Answer: | Yes, this uses propane and is labeled as such. LP means liquid propane. And the item description says, "Rated at an impressive 3 GPM, the Eccotemp I12-LP tankless water heater is a liquid Propane fired..."GadgetsGo is an Authorized Eccotemp Dealer.Kind Regards,RossGadgetsGo |
Question: | How do these hook up without a hot water tank |
Answer: | this takes the place of a hot water tank. there are connections for the water and gas and one plug to an outlet. it heats the water as it passes through the unit. |
Question: | What model is recommended for whole house |
Answer: | Hello. I'm sure any one would work, but I'd go with this larger capacity model. After having in for awhile, this one can output enough for 2 showers at full capacity, but one seems to be just a little restricted. If we installed some different shower heads I'm sure there wouldn't be any issues. For the minimal increase in cost, I believe the additional capacity is worth it. You may not always need it, but it's nice to know it's there if you do. |
Question: | I live in lower michigan and what model is recommended for whole house |
Answer: | Hi Sue Ann. Please refer to the sizing information in the second pic in Amazon's item description. It's very important to read up on tankless and how it works before purchasing. Key points to know: Your max. simultaneous hot water flow rate when everyone is using hot water. Whether you have enough amperage in your electrical panel. Most homes in USA require an upgrade to the electrical service which can cost several hundred dollars.Kind Regards,RossGadgetsGo |
Question: | Why are these so much less expensive than other name brand tankless heaters |
Answer: | Could it be the others are over priced or not produced in the volume these are? |
Question: | Even with 200 amp. My lights flicker with the water is in use. Any one having the same issue and how was the issue resolved? Thanks |
Answer: | After having an electrician inspect the installation and unit, I was told the Eco 36 really should only be installed on a 300 amp service or above. It is a great unit, but for most homes trying to run it on a 200 amp service, it is too much of a draw on the electrical. It will cause flickering lights and will become a problem when your timing a full house with showers, laundry, dishwashing, etc. I love the unit, but my service is 200 amp, so I'll be removing this and installing a Rheem Electric Hybrid tank water heater. |

LED Display Controls
Turn off/on, adjust your desired temperature, measure GPM and more!
Energy Conscious
Uses virtually no energy while not in use. True on demand technology with low gas consumption.
Low Power Draw
While in use, the i12 uses around 2 amps. While idle it uses about 2 watts.

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you turn down the water temperature |
Answer: | Hello Sallie. It is not possible to adjust the water heating of this unit. However, Doug wrote, simply by increasing the water flow rate at the faucet, you can decrease the output temperature. GadgetsGo is an Authorized Eemax Distributor. Kind Regards, John M. GadgetsGo |
Question: | I have a SP3512 unit and one of the plastic cylinders cracked. Are there replacement parts available, and if so, can you send contact information |
Answer: | I did not check their parts list, but here's a link to Eemax:http://www.eemax.com/product/parts/ |
Question: | how long does it take to get hot water and how long will it last? also, does it only heat the water 48 degrees over the incoming temperature |
Answer: | Hello. I just have to jump in and correct the silly response by "Collectibles for sale". The reference in the manual for what they wrote "3 seconds at 140F" is on page 2 and is the time that it takes to scald skin! NOT how long it takes it get hot water. Here is the official manual from Eemax: https://gadgetsgo.com/images-manual/Eemax-Manual-EX-SP.pdf So the true answer is that the time to get hot water is instant, less than 1 second, when the heater is near the sink, and assuming the pipes are room temperature. Now refer to page 10: "TEMPERATURE RISE AT SPECIFIED FLOW RATE, DEGREES F:". You will see that the SP3512 will heat a flow rate of 0.5 GPM by 48F. The heater will continue to heat water by 48F for as long as the water is flowing and power is supplied to the heater. GadgetsGo is an Authorized Eemax Distributor. Kind Regards, John M. GadgetsGo |

Question: | How much current does it draw |
Answer: | Hello Donna. Thank you for your question. This unit uses 120v, 60Hz and draws 2 amps.If we've helped you, please prefer us when you purchase on Amazon. Kind Regards,RossGadgetsGo |
Question: | can i vent this thru a masonry chimney |
Answer: | It needs to be ported outside. |
Question: | What is the highest temperature achievable from this water heater? Will it produce temperatures in excess of 150 degrees F |
Answer: | Assuming you have everything hooked up correctly, at 3.5 GPM, the MAX TEMP will be NO MORE THAN 55 degrees ABOVE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE INCOMING WATER. For example, if the incoming water temp is 50 degrees in the winter, then the max winter temp will be 105. In the summer, when the incoming water is 65 degrees, the max summer temp will be 120 degrees. This is the way ALL demand heaters work. Be SURE to check the TEMPERATURE RISE specification on ANY demand heater to know what it is truly capable of. If the TEMP RISE is specified at 3GPM, and you try to set it higher, it may CUT BACK THE FLOW RATE to achieve the higher temp, but it will NEVER exceed the TEMP RISE spec. |
