User questions & answers

Question: How loud is it
Answer: Not as loud as belt sander. If I was doing a lot of sanding, I would wear hearing protection. It's about 60 to 70 dbs when sanding. The belt sander is about 70 to 80 when sanding. Prolonged use : ear plugs
Question: Did i get a lemon ? The largest sanding sleeve slides when the machine starts, and so no pressure can be applied to it. What to do
Answer: Could be the sleeve. I tighten mine down and it works fine. I'm very happy with the one I have. I would contact the manufacturer.
Question: what's the actually sanding height possible with this sander
Answer: If the sanding drum in installed flush with the rubber core, the "as-designed" safe sanding height ( distance from the table top to the bottom of the drum downstroke) is 3 3/4 inches. The stroke is 1/2 inch, so it will sand a total of 4 1/4 inches if utilizing the upstroke.
Question: Anyone find a place to put the extra washers? It's driving me nuts having, seemingly, no where to put them
Answer: All those neat little places that are designed to hold the accessories are designed by people that don't use the equipment. All the washers, sanding sleeves, mandrills for my machine are in a box not far from the sander. Anything stored as per design would end up covered in sawdust and would have to be removed every time a vacuum or air gun is used for clean up. Cigar box (or similar) is just fine.

User questions & answers

Question: Would this have any problems shaping micarta for knife handles
Answer: It would handle it fine. It actually has good power and won't bog down if you need to press into it. Just have the right grit for the material removal rate you want. I bought it for refinishing a steel part with 220 and 600
Question: Why does it take 1 to 2 months to ship
Answer: Order from Amazon for quick shipping.
Question: Can this be screwed down to a work bench
Answer: Yes it can be, but you will likely have to attach it to a board first, then screw the board down. The bolt holes are positioned such that it's difficult to access them dirctly.
Question: Is the 5 "disc sanding disc not hook and loop and has to be glued each time you change a sanding disc? This could be a deal breaker for sure
Answer: Most disc sanders are glue on, you don’t want the play hook and loop gives. I guess it would depend on what your using it for.

User questions & answers

Question: How powerful is it. Does it bog down when putting moderate pressure against the belt or disk. Also does it run true with little to no wobble
Answer: 1) With moderate pressure, it does not bog down. With heavy pressure it slows a bit, but I have not found that to be problematic. However, so you know, I use it with 1/2 in wide belts, so there would be a bit more drag with 1 in belts. 2) There is no significant wobble. It runs true. 3) The only problem I found was a slightly uneven platen, but I was able to bend it back true.
Question: Is the motor loud when running with nothing being sanded? How would you compare it to a corded 3/8" drill
Answer: It's not the quietest sander but if I had to rate the noise level on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the quietest and 10 being the loudest, I would give it an 8 with just the motor running.
Question: Does anyone know the rpm and amps for it
Answer: Mine says 2.3 amps and belt speed- 3340 rpm (no load) and disc speed 3350 rpm (no load).
Question: Can you use this sander to sand metal if you buy the right sand paper or is it just for wood
Answer: Yes you can use this sander to sand metal. I purchased this sander specifically to sharpen knifes and metal cutting tools, just make sure to use the right sand paper.

User questions & answers

Question: Is a Miter gauge included
Answer: If you removed the sanding plate from the front it would fit a wheel I think... Depends on the thickness of your buffing wheel...
Question: With the belt in the vertical position, how much space is there between the body of the sander and the lower drum
Answer: Yes 2 ports
Question: is a belt guard available for the straight belt? one designed to deflect debris away from the operator as it exits the top-end of the belt
Answer: I do not know the size of that belt. Here is what I have done with a drive belt off an old Sears table saw, I took the old belt to car quest auto parts and they also carry an assortment of machinery belts. You might be able to look up the owners manual on the internet. Also Harbor freight carries that sander, they might have the belt or might order you one.
Question: Does drive shaft have one bearing or two? Mine (a cast iron model) lasted onlt about 30 hours of use. Steel model has one shaft for both sanders
Answer: Not loud at all ... just tension the drive v belt and it is a perfect small shop sander. It is shipped with the belt in slack mode so as not to over stretch the v belt. People are just lazy to read the manual - it is much easier to complain via the keyboard.

User questions & answers

Question: How easy to go from belt to spindle or vice versa? How long does it take
Answer: About a minute, take the nut off the top and the belt assembly will come off. Then you can install the plate and drum onto the spindle. Note: the drum and belt opinions use two different nuts, they both come with the machine, the down side is that you have to keep up with the one your not using. To my knowledge the rigid brand is the same way.
Question: mine is Missing the 1" spindle, is there somewhere to get that
Answer: the little one is the sanding roll only
Question: Work Table spec
Answer: Any bench you desire. It is very stable and does not move around. Good buy, use it for all sorts of sanding projects in the shop.
Question: Can anyone please tell me In what direction does the belt spin? To the left (counter clockwise) or to the right (clockwise
Answer: In the photo, there is a stop bar on the right side which indicates the belt moves from left to right, counter-clockwise, pushing a work piece int the stop bar. But I don't own one of these.

User questions & answers

Question: where can I get more belts
Answer: Pretty sure you can find replacement belts on Amazon. I have seen them there. I cannot recall the size of the belt offhand (1/2 x 18?) but that is what you would want to search for. The ones I saw were made by another manufacturer.
Question: Would this help get tough to sand parts of my hardwood floors
Answer: I was a professional carpenter, served a 4 year apprenticeship, have worked on residential, commercial and industrial projects, including hardwood floor refinishing. I retired from the trade in 1989 (it sure doesn't seem that long ago!). In short, this is a great sander, but it will not work for what you want. Go to a rental store and rent the appropriate equipment. Above all, have a top notch vacuum at your disposal.
Question: Can the filer handle sanding a small plastic while a very small amount of continuous stream of water is pouring over the sample, for cooling
Answer: Don't believe the unit is made for water cooling.. Water may be thrown into the motor. You might be better off looking for a different cooling agent. Air for example?
Question: Any metal workers find the 2amp motor adequate for taking down the occasional weld or brush finishing stainless tube (using good belts of course
Answer: Yeah, it’ll take a steady diet of weld grinding. I’ve been using 80 grit. Just let the tool do the work without much down pressure. Very good tool..
