User questions & answers
Question: | can it drill 1/4 holes into plastic |
Answer: | ----Its not the drill, It's the BIT ----Hanson makes particular bits for drilling plastic, with any drill regardless of voltage, and theyre available most any good hardware store or Tap Plastics. They have a particularly pointed tip, so don't ever attempt to ever use them on wood or metal, as doing so would render it crapp for plastic use from then on. I have 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 in my arsenal, and they pretty much cover any plastic, ABS, PVC, and especially Plexi-Glas projects I encounter. Yeah, they're a buck or two higher than regular bits, but they also wont crack your pretty plexi-glas project all to hell like a standard twist drill bit will. |
Question: | Does this drill have a built in LED light |
Answer: | Yes, it has a light. But it's worse than useless. It lights the area nearby, but casts a shadow on the spot you are drilling. The glare makes it actually harder to see what you're doing. |
Question: | Would you recommend this drill over the DEWALT DC970K-2 18-Volt Drill/Driver Kit (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RLR0EY)? If so, why |
Answer: | I had an oportunity to use the 18V when I installed the railings on my father in laws staircase. I worked absolutely great but I had to keep switching batteries and kept one on the charger. He got it last Christmas. I told myself then the Dewalt was far superior to the two brands of portable drills I was using that I was going to get a Dewalt for myself. Honestly, when I ordered the 20V I assumed it was the same as my father in law had but his was the 18V. I would be happy with either but the 20V I have is smaller in size and lighter than the 18V that he has. Plus the 20V lithium batteries last a long long time before you have to recharge but then again replacement batteries are expensive. I just used the 20V to build my garage and so far I've only swithed batteries 5 times and that includes all the siding, drywall, wire routing. BTW I use the new star bit screws for everything they are far superior to phillips and I have given all my boxes of phillips screws away; along with my two "other brand" cordless drills. |
Question: | Does this unit come with one or two batteries |
Answer: | As of March 22, 2020 the Description clearly says it comes with two batteries... "...The tools weighs 3.6 pounds and contains 2 20 volt Max compact Lithium ion battery packs " |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hello from pensacola florida my question is can this thing take off a tire if not can you point me to on that dose thanks |
Answer: | In the shop I use my 3/8 impact wrench from dewalt with a 20v 5ah battery and i can go almost 2 days before having to charge my battery and i use it for almost everything. It will take off tires, pull headbolts, engine mounts, t-case bolts, and so on. I would recommend if you're working on your vehicle getting the impact wrench with impact sockets. I put about $500 into what i use and it hasn't let me down yet in almost 4 years. With the wrench you won't need the adapter from screw bit to socket so that will save you a headache if you loose it. |
Question: | How many inch pounds will this impact driver provide |
Answer: | This impact has almost 1500 in-lbs of torque. Very good impact and you can beat the hell out of them they definitely last. |
Question: | Does it come with 2 batteries |
Answer: | Yes it comes with two batteries |
Question: | Does the drill have a hammer setting |
Answer: | The drill combo with the hammer setting is DCK299. However, I will say I thought I needed a hammer drill, it turns out it’s useless. An impact drill gives pulses of force laterally (in the direction of rotation) to turn big bolts, a hammerdrill delivers the same force forward. It turns out that this force is so minimal it’s basically useless. If you actually need a hammer drill what you really need is a rotary hammer. Much greater forward bang. A hammer drill is a bit like a vibrating razor. Only useful in masonry and then it goes just as fast without. |

User questions & answers
Question: | whats does type 1 vs type 2 mean on the side of the drill |
Answer: | From the Dewalt website: The type number identifies the multiple versions of a specific model number. As it relates to service parts, a type 1 can be completely different than the type 2 version of a particular model number. The type number can and usually is as important to know as the model number in order to ensure you receive the correct service part(s). Every model number can have multiple type numbers or a little as no type number. |
Question: | does this drill have a hammer setting |
Answer: | Nope |
Question: | Will the 20 volt li-ion dewalt battery interchange with b&d 20volt li-ion batery |
Answer: | DeWalt is built by Black and Decker. The old style batteries were interchangable but the new 20 volt batteries have different tabs to prevent this. They do this to prevent people from buying a $20 black and decker battery and using it on all DeWalt tools. This forces people to buy the more expensive DeWalt battery if they have DeWalt tools. |
Question: | Can this go in there |
Answer: | Obviously this question was posed by someone who doesn't have an a native command of the English language, so in trying to understand the question, I think the question is "Does this tool come with the battery?". That's what is meant by the question "can this go in there?". That's my guess anyway. So, to answer the question, no, it doesn't come with the battery. It's a bare tool only, so no, it won't work without you buying a battery separately. |

User questions & answers
Question: | No torque rating? Does anyone know the torque rating or max hole saw size in wood and steel |
Answer: | I don't know that I would use it for wood, though I guess you could. It can be set to drill, to jack hammer, or to drill and jackhammer combined. Also, don't know about torque, but I found it to be sufficient for all applications I've tried it in. It is surprisingly powerful and durable for a snall handheld unit. |
Question: | Does this have a 3rd setting to drill w/o hammer option so can core drill |
Answer: | It has 3 options: 1: drill without hammer, only spining, 2: drill with hammer, 3: hammer only for chisel. No spinning... |
Question: | Does this unit have the option of variable positions for chisel bit |
Answer: | Yes, it can lock in position either horizontally or vertically, as I have used it in both positions. It may lock in other angles, but I have not tried it in angles other than parallel or perpendicular to the handle. I also will mention that this unit has performed admirably and I have absolutely no regrets with my purchase. I was able to remove old tile (put down in the 1950's with thick-set. I found it works best at lower speeds and sharp angles of attack. Take your time and you won't work up any sweat, letting the tool do the work. Hope this helps. |
Question: | How do you place the drill bit in the hammer drill, I have been working on this task for a few hours,it do not grip the bits at all |
Answer: | This drill does require the special SDS carbide drill bits that have three slots in the shank. I pull the nose piece back and press a little on the bit and it will slip into the drill. I then rotate the bit to ensure that it is locked into place. The slots in the SDS drill bits allows then to transfer the drills hammer action to the drill point. With this drill only bits that are marked SDS Plus will work. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a battery life meter on it |
Answer: | It does not have a battery life meter. It does come with two batteries so it's not to big of an issue. |
Question: | How long does battery last |
Answer: | Batteries that come with unit are small but very light, excellent for my usage. DeWalt sells these 20v packs in 3 different capacities these are the smallest ones. How long they last is a HUGE variable based on what the task is so that will be impossible to determine for someone else. In my experience these small ones last about the same as the 18v Ni-Cad Dewalt system (18 yrs old) I replaced with this set. |
Question: | Why do two Lithium ion batteries go for $170. and the kit with two batteries a charger the carry case and the drill go for |
Answer: | it depends what batteries you're looking for. The batteries are where dewalt is making the real money (other than china vs us made power tools) This kit comes with 1.3AH batteries, I believe these are the smallest batteries offered. Think of them like gallons of gas. 1.3 isn't going to go as far as the 6.0AH. When dewalt adds in other stupid options like Bluetooth, it jacks up the cost. Unless you're a contractor running drills all day, these two batteries should keep your project moving along. |
Question: | So is brushless better than the regular DW drill |
Answer: | Yes. First off, it is more efficient than brush-ed. When you run it with a light load, it draws less power. Dewalt says you get up to 30% more runtime from the same charge. The better efficiency is a fact, and the 30% is possibly conservative. There is a youtube video of a guy drilling 1/2" holes into a board with a brushless and a traditional dewalt drill, and the brushless wins 2 to 1. it drills some 190 holes vs the brushed just 92. The second advantage: there are no brushes to wear out and replace. TBT I have many brush-ed tools and as a DIY-er I never had to replace the brushes on any of them, but this may be an advantage to a pro or heavy user. A third advantage, the tool can be built more compact, or more powerful (given the same size)The only advantage of the "brush equipped" design:that it is simpler. The brushless changes the direction of the Dc current using electronics instead of a mechanical commutator, so that is an extra source of possible failure |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this seller have a link for a single 5ah battery?, all I could find is 2pcs battery |
Answer: | Battery model DCB205 is available for purchase as a single pack online or by calling 1-888-678-7278. |
Question: | Will it do hammer only? Chipping |
Answer: | I own this drill and it will drill and hammer drill only. When hammer drill setting is selected it rotates and hammers. Theres no way to have it hammer with out rotation. I mostly use this drill for large wood holes 3/4 -1in or with holes saws in wood. This drill has so much power that I use it almost only in 3rd high gear. It's fun watching the unsuspecting coworker put it in low and watch them go for a ride .lol |
Question: | Does it have a 220 V charger? if not, can you provide with one 220v instead of 110v |
Answer: | it comes with a 110v charger. I bought this: FLAGPOWER Li-Ion Battery Charger 12V MAX and 20V MAX for Dewalt DCB101, for $29 and it works great |
Question: | Maybe a dumb question, but is there a different between a hammer drill and a drill with a hammer setting? Is this too powerful to use regularly |
Answer: | There are no dumb questions except those not asked. If the word hammer is used in the description then you are dealing with a hammer drill. The hammer setting is designed for use with a masonry drill bit for use when drilling into concrete or bricks and is not beneficial when using a regular drill bit and drilling into regular surfaces. It is not a matter of being "too powerful" but a matter of being unnecessarily pounding on a surface where there is no need or benefit to pound. The hammer setting does not get used unless drilling with a masonry bit. |

Question: | Este equipo mezclador drill, tiene reversa, velocidad variable y sirve como atornillador a pesar de su baja rpm |
Answer: | drill does not reverse, has 2 forward speeds, can not drill with left hand drill or backout a tap |
Question: | Comes with a DeWalt bag |
Answer: | The drill is about as loud as any drill of this size. Best comparison I could think of is grandma's old school vacuum cleaner. Sorry I don't own a decibel meter. By no means is it Hollywood quite for any hypothetical safe cranking. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this drill be able to bore out 1 1/4" holes in 4x4 studs |
Answer: | No. There is no trigger lock on this otherwise excellent drill. |
Question: | Any masonary bit included |
Answer: | Yes and very easy to switch between forward and reverse. We have really put this drill to work and are very happy with its performance. |
Question: | Has anyone found a good case for this drill |
Answer: | Most electric (mains powered/cord) drills make terrible screwguns and this drill is no exception. The issue is torque, which is not effected much by the speed of an electric motor. Electric motors deliver almost 100% of their available torque immediately upon being energized and will produce that same amount of torque throughout their speed range (that's why freight trains, in the US, are driven by electric motors. The engines you hear are diesel electric generators which power the electric traction motors that make the train go. Without that instantly available torque the train would never move). All electric motors deliver torque like this. It has nothing to do with a brand. That instantly available torque is also what makes mains powered drills tear up screw heads, break screws, shred driver bits and cam out of the screw head to put the distinctive track marks on walls and furniture. It's also what makes mains powered drills perfect for drilling holes, which is precisely what they're designed to do. Since you can't do anything practical to change the way electric motors work the solution is to design the screwgun around a motor with less torque and lower power requirements. It doesn't take much torque to drive a screw (next to none if properly sized pilot holes have been drilled) and useful levels of screwdriving torque can easily, and conveniently, be provided by 18v-24v which can be had in a small rechargeable battery. Unless you're doing a LOT of 1/4"+ diameter hole making buy an inexpensive mains powered drill and spend the extra money on a nice cordless driver/drill and batteries. You'll get a lot more mileage for your money that way. |
Question: | Why is speed described as 0-1200 RPM and review says it starts at either 250 or 600 RPM? I need something with true variable speed |
Answer: | Stability is better with the mid grip over the pistol grip in the sense that your hand is closer to the target rather than behind the whole drill. It has better control and is easier to keep on the head of a screw or what have you. :) |

User questions & answers
Question: | can you use a 10 pad |
Answer: | Yes that’s basically what I use is 10” polishing pad for aluminum and stainless steel. I use a 6000 rpm for cutting then use this one for final stage of polishing since it’s a lower rpm at 3500. I like this one for final stage as I can turn it down to 2000 rpm for a final mirror finish. |
Question: | will a 4 inch pad be compatible |
Answer: | Can, I use a 5 inch. I usually buy DeWalt products but this one I don't really recommend. I would go for the Makita. This polishe has a problem with 800 then to 600. It's very troublesome with product flying. |

Question: | I have this machine...what do i need to do to learn how to correct paint to a great finish |
Answer: | Go to the junk yard and buy several panels. Use the machine for about 200 hours. (No, I'm not kidding). THEN, you can use it on an actual car. Not saying that you can't use it before then without screwing something up bad, but don't come near my car with it! Seriously, watching Youtube and all is great but do not use this without some practice on things that won't matter if you screw up. Also, learn the difference between things you do with this that you can fix (like with a random orbital) and things you do that you can't fix. |
