12 best generic brad nailers
A generic brad nailer is a versatile power tool commonly used in carpentry and woodworking for various fastening applications. Brad nailers are a type of nail gun designed to fire thin, small-gauge nails known as "brads." These nails are typically 18-gauge and have a small head, making them ideal for discreet and less visible fastening.
Here are some key features and information about generic brad nailers:
Nail Size: As mentioned earlier, brad nailers use 18-gauge nails, which are thinner than those used by other nail guns. These nails are available in various lengths, typically ranging from 5/8 inch to 2 inches. The choice of nail length depends on the thickness of the materials being joined.
Applications: Brad nailers are excellent for precision work and are commonly used for tasks such as trim work, crown molding, baseboards, and attaching thin pieces of wood. They are also suitable for securing delicate or fragile materials because they leave smaller holes and are less likely to split wood.
Safety Features: Many brad nailers come with safety features such as a sequential firing mode, which ensures that the nailer only fires when the safety tip is depressed against the work surface. This reduces the risk of accidental firing.
Power Source: Brad nailers can be powered by electricity (corded), compressed air (pneumatic), or batteries (cordless). The choice of power source depends on your specific needs and mobility requirements.
Magazine Capacity: Brad nailers have a magazine that holds multiple nails. The capacity of the magazine can vary, with some models holding up to 100 nails or more, reducing the need for frequent reloading.
Depth Adjustment: Many brad nailers allow for depth adjustment, enabling you to control how deep the nail is driven into the material. This is essential for achieving the desired finish and preventing over-penetration.
Jam Clearing: Like other nail guns, brad nailers can occasionally experience nail jams. Look for models with easy-to-access jam-clearing mechanisms to minimize downtime during operation.
Brand and Model: While you mentioned a "generic" brad nailer, it's essential to consider reputable brands and specific models known for their reliability and performance. Popular brands in the power tool industry include DeWalt, Bostitch, Makita, and Porter-Cable, among others.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and oiling, is crucial to keep your brad nailer in good working condition and extend its lifespan.
In summary, a generic brad nailer is a versatile power tool for precise and discreet fastening in woodworking and carpentry projects. When choosing a brad nailer, consider factors such as nail size, power source, safety features, magazine capacity, depth adjustment, and maintenance requirements to ensure it suits your specific needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be use on 3/4" hardwood floor |
Answer: | Yes. You will need an air compressor and an air hose. The hose comes with connectors on each end. |
Question: | What about replacement parts |
Answer: | We used whatever brand Home Depot carries!! It’s a great nail gun!! For the money worth it!! |
Question: | Do you need a quick connector to connect to air compressor |
Answer: | The question confuses 2 different paper sizes. "Legal Size" is the name given to 8.5" x 14" paper, which has the same width as standard "letter size," but is 3 inches longer. Most sheet-fed scanners that scan ordinary "letter size" will be able to scan "legal size." Thus my ScanSnap S1500 (as well as the above-mentioned S1300i) easily scans legal-size paper.Another paper size, 11" x 14," which is both wider and longer than letter size, is sometimes used to make large photographic prints or small posters; as far as I know, it has no common name. Most consumer scanners (both sheet-fed and flat-bed) are NOT wide enough to scan this paper. Scanners that handle this size are much more expensive; commercial photocopy centers (and my local library) have these scanners. |
Question: | what brand of brad nails and staples does this use |
Answer: | no it will not send scanned pages to different folders. It puts your scanned pages into a folder you specify and it becomes a searchable pdf. I personally scan everything into one folder and if you ever need to retrieve something you type in (Alliant Energy) and it brings up every document that has those words on them |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the part number of the battery |
Answer: | Yes, but a proper flooring gun would be better. This will shoot through the flooring, but the nails may buckle going through knots or denser parts of the hardwood. |
Question: | Does this have the 1.3Ah battery? And is it a new item with 1 yr warranty |
Answer: | I would assume the manufacturer. There has been no problem with my nailer. So far it has done well. Hope this helps |

Question: | Will this drive brads through hard wood into hard wood as well |
Answer: | Each is approximately 7.5 inches wide x 1.5 deep (front to back) and .5 inches high (top to bottom) |
Question: | What's the amps on the batteries |
Answer: | 7 1/2 inches long 1 3/8 wide 5/8 thick good strong magnets to hold them up |
Question: | Does this nailer shoot brad nails AND staples |
Answer: | Have you upgraded the wonky usb connection to the lighting unit? Second one is about to get tossed. A great idea but poor operation. Send me a new cable and it might work |
Question: | Can this nailer shoot 23 guage pin nails |
Answer: | There should be three strips of iron/steel with each package of three. If you intend to put one of the lights on something that is iron or steel, such as a refrigerator or stove, you do not need to use the magnetic strip. The magnets are built into the lights. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does this perform on solid hardwood like oak or maple? My 18g Paslode performs great but I'm tired of fuel cells, and expensive repairs |
Answer: | How much do you spend on repairs and fuel cells? do the math and see if it make sense for you. There is no ongoing cost for this exept nails and it seems to work pretty good, Im sure it would preform well on solid hardwood (it will go through a formica countertop no problem and into wood below it). It's a semi precision tool and it wont take much abuse, but overall it really has alot more power than i thought it would. I'd say go for it. |
Question: | What kinda nails does it use, e.g. Bostitch, Freeman, etc |
Answer: | I cannot get my 320 to work with Porter Cable 16 gauge x 2" "Straight Finish Nails." They have a slight "head" to the nail and it seems to stop the gun from working. I've tried adjusting the pressure with no effect. |
Question: | which battery and why doesn't Amazon have a link for that under Frequently bought together |
Answer: | I don't know how you can do the whole house with one battery, I change batteries every 10 minutes, I would like to know what battery you have so I can order it |
Question: | Will it work with 16D framing nails |
Answer: | No it will not. It only works with 18 gauge straight brads. Ignore stop_go_boom's response, as the P325 uses 16 gauge brads, and 16 gauge is not the same as 16D. Look for a framing nailer. This is more suited to light trim work. |
Question: | What power does this brad nailer run on |
Answer: | This nailer runs on Ryobi 18v one+ battery. |
Question: | can you used it for framing |
Answer: | Not for Framing this is a finish nailer |
Question: | Can you adjust for the depth the nail goes into the wood |
Answer: | Yes. There is a dial which works easily. I love this brad nailer! |
Question: | Can you adjust for the depth the nail goes into the wood |
Answer: | After speaking with the vendor, They confirmed that you can adjust nails anywhere between 5/8 - 2 in. What you would do is dial the knob that's on the right side of the tool. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will it take any brand of nails |
Answer: | I have used two different brands so far. As long as the nails are plastic coated, 21 degree I believe any brand would work. The best prices I have found on nails is at harbor freight. 2500 nails for around $28. I have used 2 1/2" and 3 1/2" |
Question: | How come just below the nailer specs they say "often bought with this product"....22 degree nails....not |
Answer: | I used some of the 22 degree without a problem. I've used Bostich guns for 30 years prior to this gun & this is as good as any I've used.t's a great nailer |
Question: | do the nails have to be plastic coated |
Answer: | Plastic coated? No. But I do believe they have to be Plastic Collated, that is, they need to be bound together with plastic. I'm not sure if paper collated nails will work. |
Question: | What kind of air compressor do you recommend for this nailer |
Answer: | It really depends on how you're using it. If you're intermittently nailing with in and not imitating a machine gun- you can use a pancake or similar small compressor. The working pressure of the nailer is 70-115 PSI. I run mine at 100 PSI. Any portable compressor should be able to hit that pressure. The real question is duty cycle. If you're nailing every few seconds then you'll need a compressor capable of keeping up with the volume of air being consumed OR you'll have to slow down until your compressor stops running before firing the next nail. I run mine on 2 different compressors and don't have any issues- one is a 40 gallon shop compressor- the CFM is infinite compared to the gun. The other compressor is 2.6 CFM. I don't rapid fire when I'm using it and I can fire several nails before the compressor has to cycle. As long as you're not continuing to fire when the compressor is running you should be OK. |

Numax 21º Full Head Framing Nailer
It's time to tackle a new project - and we have just the tool to get it done. The SFR2190 is perfect for framing, but did you know you can also use a framing nailer to install sub-floors, roof decking, wood fencing, sheathing, and more? We designed this nailer with you in mind, so it has all of the premium features you need to get started.
Step 1: Choose Firing Mode
Your framing nailer comes with a black single-fire trigger already assembled. This is the best choice if you haven't used a framing nailer before, or if you want accurate nail placement.
Follow the manual instructions to install the red bump-fire trigger if you want quick successive firing.
Step 2: Connect to Compressor
Set your compressor to 70 PSI and use the quick-connect fitting on your air hose to connect your framing nailer. If you have a really dense material, you can increase the pressure up to 115 PSI.
Put a few drops of oil into the fitting before connecting to a compressor to keep things running smoothly!
Step 3: Load Nails
Pull the side lever back along the magazine until it snaps into place.
Drop the nails into the open channel on the top of the magazine. The angle of the nails should match the angle of the nose of the nailer.
Lift the lever at the back of the magazine to release the side lever and secure the nails.
Step 4: Adjust and Go!
This nailer is loaded with features that let you customize for any project. Change the depth adjust, 360º air exhaust, or remove the no-mar tip for extra holding power.
Pro Tip: Use piece of scrap material to test out your nailer before starting on the real thing!
21º Plastic Collated Full-Head Framing Nails
A 'plastic collated nail' just means that the nails are held together with a thin strip of plastic. They are great for DIY projects because there are no issues with glue or sharp pieces of metal flying around when you're working. We suggest you use 21º nails for the best performance, but the SFR2190 can use any nail from 20º - 22º. The magazine fits nails from 2" to 3-1/2" long and is compatible with any generic brand, which is perfect if you have nails left over from other projects! If you don't have any leftover nails, we've listed some fasteners here that have worked for our customers in the past.
