Question:	What is differences/advantages for a variable speed verses a slow speed
Answer:	The advantage to having a variable speed is two fold: The slower speed is generally used for sharpening and honing while the higher speed is for removing material faster and buffing/polishing with a polishing wheel or wire wheel. The slower speed creates less friction and therefore less heat while the higher speed (with a grinding wheel) creates more heat.

If it was 100% efficient, which is not possible by the Laws of Physics, it would be 504 divided by 746 or .676 HP. Since most motors are only 90% efficient, that would be .676 times .9 = .608 HP. Answer:	I've used it several times for light grinding without it being mounted and it stayed in place very well. The grinding was for sharpening mower blades and some light shaping, nothing that required more than very light pressure on the grinder. With that being said, if it is not mounted, even with light grinding it can 'walk' around so it's important to keep an eye on it and make sure that it stays in a safe position.

Answer:	I did and it is plenty of power to tare through metal and for knife/EDC Multi Tool making. I was very pleasantly surprised and extremely pleased with the Value I got out of the WEN 4276. for ~$45 can't get any better.
Question:	How sturdy is it? I am not able to bolt it to my floor
Answer:	If you're not able to bolt it to the floor, try this... Take a pair of 3' or 4' x3/4" pressure treated plywood squares. Glue them together with a good adhesive and drive a bunch of deck screws in to make sure they are solid. Then trace cut the plywood into a 3' diameter circle and bolt the stand in the center. Now you can lean the grinder stand on edge and roll it to a new location. You could add leveling or rubber feet also.

Answer:	Haven't found it too fast for any material I've needed to shape. Better getting the correct grinding discs.
Question:	Can you make the motor variable speed
Answer:	You will need to do a little research, but you should be able make this a variable speed unit. It has a standard 3/4hp 120vac single phase motor with a 3450 base speed. You will need to purchase a 3/4 hp 120 vac variable frequency AC motor controller. Expect to pay about $200 for a controller. My only caution is motors don't like to run below 50% base speed continuously, without additional cooling. However, I would not buy this sander again. The disk is fine, but the belt table has a single trunnion and platen is too light. They are not rigid enough to be useful. The real question is will you be satisfied with it after spending $700. I hope this is helpful.

Answer:	I Just spent 2-3 minutes trying to find mfg. origin and found nothing. Based on the quality/price I would have to guess that it is made in China-albeit the best you can ever expect from China. Very heavy. The belt housing and both tables are cast iron. The sand wheel housing is an aluminum casting. The belt wheels are cast aluminum but are high quality looking items and run on sealed ball bearings. I think this is probably the best in its size class for anything within 5x-8x the cost. I use it for everything including grinding lathe tool bits and I am thrilled with the purchase.

Answer:	No battery just a plug in for 115 volts.. maybe there is another model that is battery powered this one isn't. I also wouldn't get one that is battery powered. To run a grinder you need all the power you can get and a grinder this size wouldn't last very long with a battery.

Answer:	No. Like all grinding wheels I've ever seen, these revolve in a downward direction in the front.

Answer:	You can get 60 and 80 grit belts that work great i just got mine and am impressed with thecbuild quality i made the mistake of buying a cheap 1x30 belt geinder teust me you can do way better work with this i am making a viking seax with mine now its doing great for a hobby knife maker its gold

Answer:	This attachment is MUCH better than the stock attachment, especially if you are sharpening a knife such as a Chef's knife. The stock attachment tends to grind away more material at the first part when you start the pass. On a chef's knife, this creates a concave section at the bolster which is a very important section on a chef's knife. if you're trying to dice things like mint, onions, basil, etc., this raised area will not cut and on a chef's knife, that is a real pain in the butt. This attachment has worked well for me sharpening chef's knifes and any other blade.
Question:	could this (along with the KO work sharp, of course) be used to shape a steel blank to make knives from scratch
Answer:	I believe that is a typo. Mine is two years old but it's 120 V. And I'm pretty sure all the other ones are 120 V. A 240 V unit would need special wiring from electrician and also conversion from single phase 2 phase

Answer:	120V AC 60Hz single-phase, amperage not listed, but it is a 3/4 HP motor and if it's requirements are similar to my 3/4 HP drill press, it will draw in the neighborhood of 9A

Answer:	The Bench Grinder is rated at 3/4hp @ 3550RPM and the arbor is 5/8". That said, it is not the most powerful grinder I have used. It takes a little while to get up to speed, but once it is at max rpm it seems to have enough power.
Question:	What is the Volt/Amperage
Answer:	This attachment is probably the best sharpener on the market for someone not working as a professional. I doubt you'll risk ruining the temper of your blade, but if you are unsure of how much heat is being generated when you are using it, put your fingers on the knife and apply the most gentle of pressure. If you are feeling enough heat that you have to remove your fingers, you're pushing too hard. If you move your blade about 1 inch per second with proper pressure, the blade will not heat up enough to burn you, or anywhere near enough to ruin the temper on the blade. If you feel like you need to put more pressure to remove metal faster, you should drop down to a more coarse belt instead.

Answer:	This is very good making flat grinds. Both on handles and blades. However, for shaping handles from blank to finish, I would suggest a spindle sander like the combo by Ridgid.

Answer:	It's really easy to put together. Just took me round 5-10 minutes.

Answer:	i think the varied answers come from questions getting sent to people who have purchased different sizes. I noticed some of the reviews are also for other models. This item, the WEN 4208 has an 8-inch swing. So, you can drill the center of an 8- inch diameter object, or about 4- inches from drill center to body. The WEN 4210 & the WEN 4212 have 10- inch swings. Anyone trying to drill the center of a 9- inch wheel would need one of these models. This 4208 is a Great drill for the money. i like that the head can be swung over the edge of a work bench, which allows for drilling into long stock. Like into the bottom center of a 36" post. The beveling work table is another great feature & one i did not have on the press this will replace. If you have the space, consider the WEN 4214 with 12-Inch swing. it is still small enough to be bench top, but you can drill the center of 12- inch/ bowls & table tops.
