13 best drill angles
Drill angles refer to the angles formed by the cutting edges of a drill bit. The primary drill angles include the point angle, lip angle, and helix angle. Here's an overview:
Point Angle:
- The point angle is the angle formed at the tip of the drill bit where the cutting edges meet.
- Different materials and applications require different point angles.Common point angles are 118 degrees and 135 degrees. A 118-degree point angle is often used for general-purpose drilling, while a 135-degree angle is suitable for harder materials.
Lip Angle:
- The lip angle is the angle formed by the cutting lips of the drill bit. These are the edges that actually do the cutting into the material.
- The lip angle affects the cutting action and the strength of the drill bit. Smaller lip angles result in a more aggressive cutting action, while larger lip angles provide better strength.
Helix Angle:
- The helix angle refers to the angle formed by the spiral flutes around the body of the drill bit.
- This angle affects the efficiency of chip removal and can impact the stability of the drill bit. Higher helix angles are often used for softer materials, while lower helix angles are suitable for harder materials.
Chisel Edge:
- The chisel edge is the edge formed by the intersection of the two lips at the center of the drill bit.
- The chisel edge aids in the initial penetration of the material. The length and angle of the chisel edge can influence the performance of the drill bit.
Web Thickness:
- The web is the central part of the drill bit that connects the two cutting edges.
- The thickness of the web is crucial for the strength of the drill bit. Too thin a web might cause the drill bit to break, especially when drilling into hard materials.
Back Taper:
- The back taper is a slight reduction in the diameter of the drill bit towards the shank.
- It helps in preventing the drill bit from jamming in the hole and facilitates easier withdrawal.
Understanding drill angles is essential for selecting the right drill bit for specific materials and applications. The correct combination of angles ensures efficient cutting, reduces the risk of breakage, and enhances overall drilling performance. It's important to match the drill bit characteristics with the type of material being drilled for optimal results.

Question: | How do you rotate the handle about the shaft? (Not lift and lower) Mine seems to be stuck in one position |
Answer: | Step 1 : Use low-speed handpice to polish the surface of teeth which need bonding . Step 2 : Put etching to teeth surface for 30- 60 seconds . Step 3 : Clean out etching from teeth surface and make teeth surface clear and dry . Step 4 : Put bonding (primer) to teeth surface Step 5 : Put adhesive paste to brackets (NOT to teeth ). Then use brackets gauge put brackets into correct position of teeth lightly for 30 seconds |
Question: | What is the distance from the center of the drillbit to the edge of the adapter? Basically how close to a corner can I drill a hole |
Answer: | I ordered it but it came out dry! And I don’t own them anymore but it was old! |
Question: | Why does this one cost so much more than De Walt, Milescraft and others? It seems to be pretty simple looking compared to the rest |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | What is the red 'unlock' handle for, and is it removable or movable or what |
Answer: | Yes but I think I have a batch that doesn't work well |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the depth (front face of tool chuck to back face of right angle |
Answer: | If you unscrew the red handle you should be able to move the collar to the position of your choice. I would suggest a bit of oil to make the rotation easier. |
Question: | so you need special drill bits with this |
Answer: | The distance from the center of the bit to the front or either side of the adapter is 0.51 inch, or a tiny bit more than half an inch. So you can drill a hole that is half an inch from both sides of a corner. |
Question: | You state " an ideal accessory for your DEWALT impact driver. " Will it work with drills? And will it work with other brands of drills |
Answer: | I think it is a matter of quality. The Milwaukee, the one I now own, is beautifully made of solid castings, high-quality gears, and a nice hex chuck with a pull-to-realease brass ring. The only organic (plastic) part I can find is the cover on the adjustable handle and the grease on the gears. The gears are tight with only about 3 degrees of lash. The Milescraft has a plastic handle with a simple hex magnetic chuck, not a positive locking chuck line the Milwaukee. The Dewalt DWARA100 has a larger case and places the tip of a standard #2 Phillips bit very close to the chuck obstructing view, while the Milwaukee provides a nice view of the bit-to-screw-head connection. Also the neither the Milescraft or the Dewalt show a handle to manage the significant torque of exerted by a right-angle attachment. I am not sure I would like to use one of these without this handle.Ultimately, the parts that really matter are the two gears and the bearings. These are not visible and I can only inspect the ones on my Milwaukee, which are excellent. The Dewalt claims a 5 times longer life than the "competition", so I assume this means they have good gears. My experience with a cheap model (no longer available) is that gears really matter.ou might want to read my review of the Milwaukee. |
Question: | Does it have a chuck? How do you attach drill bits or driver bits to it? The picture is not clear. Thanks |
Answer: | It is used as a grip for the head. It locks in multiple positions (from parallel to drive shaft to 90*) and can rotate from one side of the driver to the other. Turning that handle locks it in whatever position you find comfortable for the task at hand. It is not removable but if you lock it parallel to the drive shaft its like its not there. Its a great feature. |

User questions & answers
Question: | The bit seems to almost sink all the way into the shaft. There seems to be no way to tighten bit in the shaft. Is this how it is supposed to be |
Answer: | From the face of the tool chuck to the back of the angle drill is one & nine/sixteenth inches (1-9/16"). From the end of the inserted phillips bit to the back of the angle drill is one & three/quarters inches (1-3/4"). It is very small. It even surprised me that is would fit into a phillips bit that only has (1-3/4") clearance. Hope this helps. |
Question: | can you use hex shank nut drivers with this too? like a 7/16 bit or just screwdriver bits |
Answer: | Yes.... you need drill bits with the hexagonal shank. |
Question: | Does the phillips bit on the end come out? mine won't. i don't see any way this tool can be used with a drill bit? so, phillips screwdriver use only |
Answer: | 1/4" hex will work with any 1/4" impact driver... and will work with any drill drivers. Most drill drivers will accept at least 3/8", however many heavy duty drills are 1/2". |
Question: | The description says it is a 'right angle flex shaft' but in the picture it appears to be pointing to the left - is this the right or left version |
Answer: | The long end has a 1/4" hex drive that you chuck into your drill or driver. 1/4" hex drive bits go into the other end, which has a magnet to retain them. You will need a small screwdriver or punch to remove short bits (1" long). |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this drill have a light |
Answer: | You won't be able to "tighten" the bit up, push down on the bit and it will "lock" in place, push down on the silver ring to "unlock". The bit is designed to sink low to give maximum clearance in tight spaces and to be able to hold the screw between your thumb and index finger if need be and space allows. If you don't need that much space you can always use longer bits. |
Question: | What is the chuck size? (how wide does it open |
Answer: | If it's got a 1/4" shaft, this thing will turn it. |
Question: | Is this drill powerful enough to drill through ceramic tile? I need to attach a toilet paper holder in a new bathroom in a tight space |
Answer: | You can use the drill bits that have the hex ends on this. But no, not a regular drill bit. |
Question: | Is this drill campatable with the larger 20v 3 amp batteries from other dewalt kits |
Answer: | You have to use it in the down position. Then it switches to a right angle flex shaft, but only if turned clockwise. Might work if you turned it counter-clockwise, but never tried it that way. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this drill variable speed |
Answer: | Yes, right below the bit and it's pretty bright. |
Question: | Does this model still have the metal gears of the old version or are they all plastic now |
Answer: | 3/8 inch. plenty big for a battery drill. |
Question: | What is the max rpm |
Answer: | Yes. This drill will do the job well. I have used mine to place handicap-style safety bars in similier situations. I have two suggestions. First, if possible, use something to score the tile where planning to drill. I have used a diamond-tipped cutter with some success. Second, and more important, use the best, BRAND NEW drill you can find. Use a drill made for tile, not just a drill labeled for "brick" or "mortar" or "cement". I have also found it is important to drill straight into the tile at a true 90° angle to avoid "walking" the drill bit across the tile. Good luck with the project. I am confident this DeWalt drill will be up to the task. I find I often use this drill in place of my larger drills. |
Question: | Can this drill be safely submerged in water |
Answer: | Yes it is. Fits 3 amp and 4 amp batteries. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this reversible? Does it have a variable speed throttle |
Answer: | Yes. Speed can be controlled by changing pressure on trigger. |
Question: | what is the optimal psi for this |
Answer: | I agree with Marcia Sherman's reply. A very heavy drill. At the current price one would hope that Milwaukee would not use damage their reputation with plastics gears! |
Question: | What tool is this?? if i look up the model number it says it is a big rig truck tire impact wrench! what is this |
Answer: | 1300 RPM per the viable. Great power. |
Question: | Do you have, Same specification model with Keyless chuck.l |
Answer: | No. There is nothing about it that suggests it can be safely used in a wet environment. |

Question: | If the drill burns up, who do you contact to get it replaced |
Answer: | Yes, its reversible, great for left hand drill bits. |
Question: | Does this come with a battery |
Answer: | Specs state "2000rpm @ 90 PSIG" . I have found that the vast majority of air tools rate @ 90 PSI. In our shop, I have the pressure regulator set at 120 PSI which has always worked well. |
Question: | Does this product come with a carry bag |
Answer: | It’s a angle drill, don’t know why it says that |
Question: | If I bought this, I would have to buy batteries *and* a charger separately, right |
Answer: | The model I have is CP879C and has a standard Jacobs key style chuck. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the smallest bit it holds |
Answer: | I would contact the manufacturer, DeWalt. I don't off hand know what the warranty covers nor what the length of the warranty is. But DeWalt could tell you. Before contacting them I advise you to find your receipt for when you purchased it. I think DeWalt has product registration, not completely sure if they do. But if they do and you registered your drill with DeWalt at the time of purchase, that will assist you in making a claim against the warranty. |
Question: | What are the dimensions? Especially from the end of the chuck (silver) to the outside of the housing at the 90 degree turn |
Answer: | no. it does not. i bought the dewalt drill/driver which came with 2 batteries. this was a much better deal (before christmas) than buying the aforementioned parts individually |
Question: | what is the distance from the edge of the tool to the center of the chuck |
Answer: | No just the bare tool |
Question: | Is the side handle removable and/or attachable from either side |
Answer: | Late to the party, but for the benefit of any other readers. A product code ending -B is a bare tool which means you get the tool only, with no battery or charger or bag or anything. The bare tools are intended for people who already have enough batteries and chargers to meet their needs. If you don't already have batteries and chargers etc you're better off buying a kit. The code will be much the same but instead of ending -B it will end in -P1 or -T2 or similar. The kit comes with a battery and charger, and often also includes a case or bag of some description. The kit usually works out cheaper than buying the battery and charger separately, although sometimes the kit comes with a small battery. |

There are some fastening or hole boring applications that a standard drill / driver just can’t handle. Sometimes you need to work under a sink or in the rafters of a crawlspace. For those times, you’ll need to use a right angle drill that can work properly in those awkward environments. For those situations, use the Ryobi P241. It’s a compact, powerful drill that has more than enough torque and rotational speed for many household and professional applications. Beyond the 130 inch pounds of torque and 1,100 revolutions per minute, it comes loaded with features that provide you with maximum utility and comfort. When you’re on your back, losing your fasteners is the last thing you want to have happen. The onboard magnetic bit tray keeps them on you without worrying about dropping them. If your workplace is a little damp, you’ll still be able to maintain a grip with the carefully designed hex rubber overmold on the handle, allowing you maximum grip strength and freedom of movement in slippery conditions. The P241 also comes equipped with a powerful LED that will keep your work subjects illuminated when you need to see them the most. When you find yourself stuck under a sink or crawlspace, drilling holes with multiple different kinds of bits, you’ll be happy to have your trusty Ryobi product by your side.
- LONG-NECK DESIGN allows for greater leverage and reach into awkward places for specific applications that standard drill / drivers are not suited for, like plumbing or HVAC installation
- ONBOARD MAGNETIC TRAY holds bits and fasteners for when you want both hands open to use the tool while on the job
- LED LIGHTING keeps your job illuminated while working in dark or tight spaces, allowing you to work with improved accuracy
- RUBBERIZED OVERGRIP lets you hold this tightly in slippery conditions, allowing for greater control for proper fastener driving and hole boring
- ONE+ COMPATIBLE: This tool works with multiple 18V batteries in Ryobi’s suite, including the P100, P102, P103, P104, P105, P107, and P108
User questions & answers
Question: | can this be used as a socket wrench ratchet |
Answer: | Yes, it does include a key for the chuck. I have an old, corded drill that has its own chuck key, but the key for my old drill is too large for the drill guide. I keep both chuck keys together so I know where to find them when I need them. The newer drills should have no problem. I was drilling with a 1/4" bit and had good results. Thanks, Darl |
Question: | Does this tool have the Ryobi factory warranty |
Answer: | Mine says China, purchased in Nov. 2016 |
Question: | Does this have hammer drill function? I'm assuming it does not |
Answer: | I used a tape measure and the approximate distance from the bottom of the chuck to the bottom of the base is 6 5/16" when the guide is fully extended upward. When the guide is fully depressed against the springs, the bottom of the chuck moves down to within about 1 1/8" of the bottom of the base. Hope this helps, DS |
Question: | Is there anything this drill "couldnt" do compared to a regular style drill? I'm looking for a decent drill for household work |
Answer: | Base-5 1/2. Hole- 2 7/8 |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the head be flipped 180° so the trigger is not on the palm side |
Answer: | You can use an adapter to put a socket on the drive. You won’t be able to have a ratchet backs and forth. |
Question: | What is the cfm rating@90psi and is it easy on air usage |
Answer: | The reconditioned tools we sell carry a 1 year factory warranty. The new tools we sell carry a 3 year factory warranty |
Question: | Is it a right hand left hand air drill |
Answer: | Correct, is does not have hammer drill function. |
Question: | In the description it states "quiet design". The one I received is so loud that it hurts my ears. how do i make mine quieter |
Answer: | this drill has no clutch for setting the slipping force, so you could over drive screws. Ive had it torque my wrist when driving screws. It also is not balanced well enough to drill something like concrete without using two hands. I got this drill to only use in tight spaces, i personally prefer the traditional drill. But to answer your question truthfully, this would do the job any drill could do. |
