Answer: It took me about 1-1/2 hours for each battery. The light blinks when it's done. They are great and you will like them with the 20v drill.

Answer: The "kit" as advertised on Amazon is the drill, charger, two batteries, and case. At $189.00 it is a great deal. The drill,etc. is terrific.

Answer: Another way to figure out a torque rating of a Dewalt drill is to go to Dewalt's EU site, pick United Kingdom and look at the specs. They list both torque specs in this case. MAX is 70 nm soft is 27 nm converting to 619.55 in-lb and 238.97 in-lb. Hard torque is instant torque delivered. Usually at the start of an application; whereas, soft torque is applied throughout the application like when driving a screw.

Answer: A separate 20v utility light is available for around $15 which utilizes the same 20v L-I battery. I bought one last year and am very happy w/ it. It uses multiple led bulbs and spreads a more diffused light than the average flashlight, but I use it extensively out of doors and for low light repair projects.

Answer: No, I'd recommend something like the "Pet Hair Eraser" because it has a silicone attachment that hair stick to and the suction is VERY high on there. I have a maltese and her is lighter than air and it gets on literally everything. I also have another dog which hair is silky and curly but also long and it works great for picking up both along with lint. I use it on my dark clothing, bedding, and chairs though you can probably use it on everything.

Answer: I use the smaller batteries. I have extras so there is always one on the charger. Bonus is that they weigh a bit less so if you really are using it to the battery life in one sitting it wont be so fatiguing. Check around as sometimes its cheaper to buy additional tools with batteries then you have an extra tool and an extra battery.

Answer: Most likely WILL NOT break the bolt loose. I use these often doing commercial appliance installations and kiosk relocations. About 5 pounds of constant pressure is the most I would push them.

Answer: It does not have a battery life meter. It does come with two batteries so it's not to big of an issue.
Question: How long does battery last
Answer: Batteries that come with unit are small but very light, excellent for my usage. DeWalt sells these 20v packs in 3 different capacities these are the smallest ones. How long they last is a HUGE variable based on what the task is so that will be impossible to determine for someone else. In my experience these small ones last about the same as the 18v Ni-Cad Dewalt system (18 yrs old) I replaced with this set.
Question: Why do two Lithium ion batteries go for $170. and the kit with two batteries a charger the carry case and the drill go for
Answer: it depends what batteries you're looking for. The batteries are where dewalt is making the real money (other than china vs us made power tools) This kit comes with 1.3AH batteries, I believe these are the smallest batteries offered. Think of them like gallons of gas. 1.3 isn't going to go as far as the 6.0AH. When dewalt adds in other stupid options like Bluetooth, it jacks up the cost. Unless you're a contractor running drills all day, these two batteries should keep your project moving along.
Question: So is brushless better than the regular DW drill
Answer: Yes. First off, it is more efficient than brush-ed. When you run it with a light load, it draws less power. Dewalt says you get up to 30% more runtime from the same charge. The better efficiency is a fact, and the 30% is possibly conservative. There is a youtube video of a guy drilling 1/2" holes into a board with a brushless and a traditional dewalt drill, and the brushless wins 2 to 1. it drills some 190 holes vs the brushed just 92. Answer: 5500 is the prefix for a series of infinite switches made by Robertshaw. The 5500 series are all 240v 15A max, which is 3600W enough for the largest range elements. An infinite heat control copies the power cycling of an internal low power heater to the range element so the minimum element power is zero, it just switches the contacts for an on/off time percentage. The variations are for minimum power % at low position, rotation direction for low to high, push to turn or detents, shaft shape, shaft length, and terminal configuration. The only other parameter is cycle rate. In the past the controls made for the classic iron covered “calrod” elements had a relatively slow cycle rate because the thermal mass of the calrod the only thing a faster cycle did was wear out the switch sooner. Glass top style elements heat and cool quickly and a 2 or 3 cycle per minute control will be noticeably on too much and off too much. Answer: ----Its not the drill, It's the BIT ----Hanson makes particular bits for drilling plastic, with any drill regardless of voltage, and theyre available most any good hardware store or Tap Plastics. They have a particularly pointed tip, so don't ever attempt to ever use them on wood or metal, as doing so would render it crapp for plastic use from then on. I have 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 in my arsenal, and they pretty much cover any plastic, ABS, PVC, and especially Plexi-Glas projects I encounter. Yeah, they're a buck or two higher than regular bits, but they also wont crack your pretty plexi-glas project all to hell like a standard twist drill bit will.

Answer: I had an oportunity to use the 18V when I installed the railings on my father in laws staircase. I worked absolutely great but I had to keep switching batteries and kept one on the charger. He got it last Christmas. I told myself then the Dewalt was far superior to the two brands of portable drills I was using that I was going to get a Dewalt for myself. Honestly, when I ordered the 20V I assumed it was the same as my father in law had but his was the 18V. I would be happy with either but the 20V I have is smaller in size and lighter than the 18V that he has. Plus the 20V lithium batteries last a long long time before you have to recharge but then again replacement batteries are expensive. I just used the 20V to build my garage and so far I've only swithed batteries 5 times and that includes all the siding, drywall, wire routing. BTW I use the new star bit screws for everything they are far superior to phillips and I have given all my boxes of phillips screws away; along with my two "other brand" cordless drills.

I suspect this becase they operate under the bits and are covered with all material drilled; it had yo be lose enough to fall free with out binding the battery. They all work great. Batt life is most affected by leaving on the charger, remove once charged.

Answer: I would think that if you open the chuck all the way and look in the bottom of the chuck there should be a bolt holding it in. At least on most drills that's how they are held in.

Answer: I bought this tool for use in Hong Kong with 240v. I bought the DCB118 fast charger from the UK along with a FlexVolt battery (DCB606) and they work perfectly with the DCD996B (and my DCF887B). It is worth noting that shipping of Li-ion batteries is now restricted internationally based on a number of factors including watt-hours and if the battery is being shipped on it's own or with equipment. I had to return a combo kit as my US trans-shipper would not ship Li-ion batteries with equipment and gave me no option to split the package and ship the batteries separately (conversely, they shipped the larger FlexVolt battery (54V) with charger from the UK without issue).Compatible chargers include DCB102, DCB118, DCB132, and DCB1800B.If you are going to buy the DCD996 (or other 20V MAX tool), then in my experience, just buy the bare tool and then source the battery and charger locally.
