| Answer: | This is a great small Arbor Press. There is a 1/4" hole bored into the press that can hold tools (like a punch/die). But you'd need the die, a base plate, and I'd want the leather to be no more than say 1/16" thick. for punching holes. |

| Answer: | No. It's a light duty press, 500 pounds. To estimate the punching force required, multiply the hole perimeter x material thickness x shearing strength. 3.5" x pi = 10.99 inches. A reasonable guess at the side plate thickness is 0.050", and aluminum shearing strength is around 30,000 PSI. Hence the punch force required is: 10.99 x 0.05 x 30,000 = 16,500 pounds. To punch a 3.5" diameter hole I would look at a conduit punch or a hole saw, although the punch will leave a much cleaner hole than will a hole saw. |

| Answer: | As long as you don't exceed the force capacity, yes. As with any press, you can not exceed design loads. If it says 1 ton arbor press, don't exceed 1 ton. You should in reality stay far under that load, because that load will cause it to deflect. I would stay around half that load. |
