10 best pinless scroll saw blades

Pinless scroll saw blades are specialized cutting tools used in scroll saws, which are power tools designed for intricate and detailed woodworking and craft projects. These blades are an essential part of a scroll saw, enabling users to make precise and intricate cuts in a variety of materials, such as wood, plastic, and thin metals.

Here are some key features and information about pinless scroll saw blades:

  1. Blade Design: Pinless scroll saw blades are characterized by their lack of pins. Unlike pinned scroll saw blades that require a clamping mechanism to hold them in place, pinless blades are designed to be inserted directly into the scroll saw's blade holders.

  2. Versatility: These blades are available in various sizes and tooth configurations to suit different cutting needs. They come in both plain-end and spiral designs. The choice of blade depends on the material being cut and the intricacy of the desired pattern.

  3. Material Compatibility: Pinless scroll saw blades are suitable for cutting a wide range of materials, including hardwoods, softwoods, plywood, acrylics, plastics, and non-ferrous metals. The choice of blade depends on the material's thickness and density.

  4. Blade Tensioning: Proper blade tensioning is essential for achieving accurate cuts with a scroll saw. Users can adjust the tension of pinless scroll saw blades by tightening or loosening the tensioning knob on the saw. Correct tension ensures the blade remains taut during cutting, preventing blade deflection and maintaining precision.

  5. Blade Changes: One advantage of pinless scroll saw blades is that they are relatively easy to change. Users can quickly remove and replace blades without dealing with pins or special clamps, saving time and effort.

  6. Scroll Saw Projects: Pinless scroll saw blades are commonly used for creating intricate scrollwork, marquetry, inlays, and detailed decorative patterns in woodworking projects. They are also popular among hobbyists and artisans for crafting and artistic endeavors.

  7. Maintenance: To ensure optimal performance, it's essential to keep scroll saw blades sharp and clean. Regular blade maintenance, such as cleaning off debris and occasional sharpening, will prolong their lifespan.

In summary, pinless scroll saw blades are essential tools for woodworking and crafting enthusiasts who require precision and intricate cuts in various materials. They offer versatility and ease of use, making them a valuable accessory for scroll saw users.

User questions & answers

Question: How long are these blades, will they fit a delta scroll saw
Answer: 8.5 x 3.5 x 1 in . Almost all blades fit almost all scroll saws.
Question: Will these blades fit in an 18” porter cable scroll saw
Answer: Some porter cable saws accept both plain and pin end blades. Without knowing the model # I cannot say for sure, but I am guessing it will.
Question: Will these fit the Dewalt DW788 scroll saw
Answer: These are 5" plain end blades so they will fit .
Question: Are these pinned end blades
Answer: No they are not pinned.
Question: Does this saw come with a stand
Answer: NO! Even though Delta and DeWalt are very similar, The DeWalt stand has to be adapted to fit the Delta saw. Takes a few minutes.
Question: What is the 'thing' on left side? How easy to change blade, need a tool? Disappointed no light, any available
Answer: That black tube thing on the left is an adjustable hose that blows puffs of air (generated I think from the up and down motion of the upper arm) which will help keep your lines clear of sawdust. Changing blades is a snap, simply loosen the thumb / wing screw on the top arm and the lower holder and slide out the blade. As for the light, I make due with a shop lamp that I have hanging from the ceiling of my garage. You can check woodcraft or rockler for magnetic portable lamps that may stick to the saw somewhere - not sure if its magnetic everywhere, never tried
Question: The saw is great but I can not get the hold down to stay in place. I move the wood and it also moves. Any thoughts
Answer: I removed mine even though it held just fine as I found that it got in my way. This was after I'd gotten used to the saw and the forces involved. I haven't had an issue using it without the hold down, but you have to do the holding down.
Question: There's such a price difference, what's the main difference between this saw and the dewalt dw
Answer: Only difference is some of the outside sheet metal, the inner workings are the same. You are paying for the Dewalt name. They both used to owned by the same company.

Skip tooth blades cut fast, provide good

chip clearance, and smooth finishes.

Great for tight radius fretwork!

Universal No. 5 is good, but Universal Nos. 3/0 to 2 are preferred for inside cuts and cutting

marquetry panels.

sheet of stock or several thinner sheets in a stack cut.
