| Answer: | It depends what kind of engraving he wants to do. We use a flex shaft for almost everything at the jewelry bench. (This kit include the flex shaft.) But if he wants to do real intricate carving, most of the time you want a sharp blade that fits in your palm and you use your wrist muscles to push it along. Hope this helps a little. I will say, as a side note, if he is working on small pieces make sure he gets a clamping system to hold the metal. You can easily slip while carving and put a bit into the meat of your hand. (Been there, it hurts a lot). |
