12 best saw blade for cutting scrolls
A saw blade for cutting scrolls is a specialized tool designed for making intricate and curved cuts in various materials, such as wood, metal, or plastic. These blades are commonly used in scroll saws, which are power tools specifically designed for detailed and precise cutting work. Here are some key points about scroll saw blades:
Blade Types: Scroll saw blades come in various types and sizes, each suited for specific tasks. The two primary categories are plain-end blades and pin-end blades. Pin-end blades are attached to the saw with small pins, while plain-end blades require blade clamps for installation.
Tooth Patterns: Scroll saw blades have different tooth patterns, including regular, skip, and reverse. The choice of tooth pattern depends on the material being cut and the desired finish.
Blade Thickness: Scroll saw blades vary in thickness, which is typically measured in terms of "teeth per inch" (TPI). Blades with higher TPI are thinner and are suitable for finer and more delicate cuts, while lower TPI blades are thicker and are better for thicker materials.
Material Compatibility: Scroll saw blades are available for cutting various materials, including wood, metal, plastic, and even glass. It's important to choose a blade that is compatible with the material you intend to cut.
Cutting Radius: The cutting radius of a scroll saw blade refers to the minimum curve it can cut. Blades with smaller cutting radii are ideal for intricate and detailed work.
Blade Tension: Proper tensioning of the blade is essential for accurate and efficient cutting. Scroll saws typically have a tensioning mechanism that allows users to adjust the tension of the blade as needed.
Speed and Feed Rate: The speed at which you feed the material into the scroll saw and the rate at which you move the piece can affect the quality of the cut. Experimentation and practice are often necessary to achieve the desired results.
Safety Precautions: When using a scroll saw, it's important to wear appropriate safety gear, such as safety glasses and hearing protection, and to follow all safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer.
In summary, a scroll saw blade is a specialized cutting tool used in scroll saws for creating intricate and curved cuts in various materials. The choice of blade type, tooth pattern, thickness, and material compatibility depends on the specific project and material being worked on. Proper blade tension and safe working practices are crucial when using a scroll saw for scroll cutting tasks.

User questions & answers
Question: | How long are these blades, will they fit a delta scroll saw |
Answer: | 8.5 x 3.5 x 1 in . Almost all blades fit almost all scroll saws. |
Question: | Will these blades fit in an 18” porter cable scroll saw |
Answer: | Some porter cable saws accept both plain and pin end blades. Without knowing the model # I cannot say for sure, but I am guessing it will. |
Question: | Will these fit the Dewalt DW788 scroll saw |
Answer: | These are 5" plain end blades so they will fit . |
Question: | Are these pinned end blades |
Answer: | No they are not pinned. |
Question: | Does this saw come with a stand |
Answer: | NO! Even though Delta and DeWalt are very similar, The DeWalt stand has to be adapted to fit the Delta saw. Takes a few minutes. |
Question: | What is the 'thing' on left side? How easy to change blade, need a tool? Disappointed no light, any available |
Answer: | That black tube thing on the left is an adjustable hose that blows puffs of air (generated I think from the up and down motion of the upper arm) which will help keep your lines clear of sawdust. Changing blades is a snap, simply loosen the thumb / wing screw on the top arm and the lower holder and slide out the blade. As for the light, I make due with a shop lamp that I have hanging from the ceiling of my garage. You can check woodcraft or rockler for magnetic portable lamps that may stick to the saw somewhere - not sure if its magnetic everywhere, never tried |
Question: | The saw is great but I can not get the hold down to stay in place. I move the wood and it also moves. Any thoughts |
Answer: | I removed mine even though it held just fine as I found that it got in my way. This was after I'd gotten used to the saw and the forces involved. I haven't had an issue using it without the hold down, but you have to do the holding down. |
Question: | There's such a price difference, what's the main difference between this saw and the dewalt dw |
Answer: | Only difference is some of the outside sheet metal, the inner workings are the same. You are paying for the Dewalt name. They both used to owned by the same company. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Am I correct that I can use this for not only my band saw blades but also my scroll saw blades |
Answer: | Yes you can on both blades. It aids in cutting and for anti-gumming. I use it to avoid build up on saw teeth do to aluminum being a gummy material |
Question: | Will just plain wax do the the same thing please? Thanks |
Answer: | Wax will work, but not as good as this blade lube. I have used both, and now use this lube. Just stating as I have viewed it. Less squeaking with this lube and I do not have to apply as often. |
Question: | how often should this be applied |
Answer: | As often as you need. Is your blade particularly loud on newer cuts? Apply the lube. Does it hurt to push the wood into the teeth? Add lube! Like many things in life, if it gets hard to push, add lube. It might get messy, but you sure cant have too much lube! LUBE LUBE LUBE! |
Question: | how often do you apply it |
Answer: | It depends on how often you use the saw. I would apply it every 4 or 5 times you use the saw. You may realize some wax build up on the wood if you apply it too often. |

Wood
Best materials and an optimized tooth geometry on Bosch wood jig saw blades offer excellent performance in both thinner and deeper wood cuts. High-carbon steel (HCS) blades offer excellent performance in wood, laminated particle board or plastics. Bosch bi-metal blades reduce breakage risk, but allow maximum cutting flexibility and versatility. Bi-metal jig saw blades offer up to 10 times’ longer life than HCS blades.
Side Set & Ground
Side set and ground teeth offer clean, fast cuts in wood and plastics. In the design of jig saw blade teeth, side set means teeth are designed to be offset and are used for cuts that are fast. These blades tend to have fewer teeth per inch (TPI) and are used in thicker material applications.
Wavy Set & Milled
Wavy teeth sets are used for cuts in metal, non-ferrous metal, aluminum and plastics. For wavy teeth sets in jig saw blades, teeth are aligned in a wave design and can be used for straight, fine cuts. These blades tend to have a higher teeth per inch (TPI) count and are used in thinner material applications.
Side Set & Milled
Side set and milled teeth offer fast, rough cuts in wood and plastics. Teeth that are side set are offset in design and are used for faster, rough cuts. These blades tend to have fewer teeth per inch (TPI) and are used in thicker material applications where a rough cut is acceptable.
Ground & Taper Ground
Ground and tapered ground jig saw blades offer a precise, fine and clean cut in wood. Taper set teeth have a straight alignment and are used for slower, very fine cutting. These blades tend to have higher teeth per inch (TPI) and are used in wood applications requiring a slow, smooth cut or when cutting thinner materials.
