9 best table saws with riving

Table saws with riving knives are an essential tool for woodworking and cutting various materials. The riving knife is a safety feature designed to prevent kickback and enhance cutting accuracy. Here's what you need to know about table saws with riving knives:

  1. Riving Knife Function: A riving knife is a vertical metal plate or blade positioned behind the saw blade. Its primary function is to prevent the wood from pinching the blade during a cut, which can cause dangerous kickback. It helps keep the kerf (the gap created by the blade) open and uniform.

  2. Safety: Riving knives are a crucial safety feature. By preventing kickback, they reduce the risk of accidents and injuries when using a table saw. Properly installed and adjusted riving knives can make woodworking safer for both professionals and hobbyists.

  3. Types of Riving Knives: There are different types of riving knives available for various table saw models. Some are integrated into the saw's design, while others are aftermarket accessories that can be added to existing saws. It's important to choose the right type for your specific saw.

  4. Adjustability: Many table saws with riving knives allow you to adjust the height and position of the knife to accommodate different types of cuts. This adjustability enhances versatility and precision in your woodworking projects.

  5. Compatibility: When purchasing a table saw with a riving knife or a riving knife accessory, make sure it is compatible with your specific table saw model. Manufacturers often provide compatibility information to help you make the right choice.

  6. Maintenance: Like any other part of a table saw, riving knives require proper maintenance. Keep them clean and free of debris to ensure they function correctly. Regularly inspect and adjust the knife to maintain its safety benefits.

  7. Legal Requirements: Depending on your location and workplace safety regulations, using a table saw with a riving knife might be mandatory in certain situations, especially in commercial or industrial settings. Always adhere to local safety standards.

  8. Aftermarket Accessories: If your table saw doesn't come with a riving knife or you want to upgrade an existing saw, there are aftermarket riving knife kits available. These kits are designed to fit a wide range of table saws, so you can retrofit your saw for added safety.

In summary, a table saw with a riving knife is an important tool for woodworking and cutting tasks. The riving knife enhances safety by preventing kickback and helps maintain consistent cutting quality. Make sure to choose the right type and maintain it properly to ensure safe and precise woodworking operations.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this compatible with the DeWalt
Answer: Yes, I did get a paper user's manual. The English section is 11 pages. I bought my shredder December, 2015. Hope this helps.
Question: what is the "actual" thickness
Answer: The unit is made in China. I cannot tell what the gears are made of without tearing it apart. The cutting teeth are metal. You will be opening and closing the unit often because as the paper builds up in the shredder it stops working until you either push the paper down or empty the unit. It does shred very well and I have yet had to stop shredding because the unit overheated.
Question: Will this riving knife fit onto a dewalt (dwe7491rs) 10-inch jobsite table saw
Answer: Yes. Easy plug in. One cord from shredder to wall.
