Answer:	This is a 1/4" collet router. If you want to use 3/8" (new to me) or 1/2" get a 1/2" router. I've used routers for 45 years. Own a 1/4" and two 1/2" Here's a quick guide: 1/4" router is the most widely useful, can be held in one hand for quick work, your arm doesn't get tired as fast as with a larger router. This one is good for hinge guides and door installs, laminate trimming (laminate trim bits with bearings), round over of the edges of boards or plywood. Makes a neat no slivers edge, get 1/2", 3/4" diameter cove bits (these will make 1/4 and 3/8" from the edge curves) I get these with bearings as well. (If you want less of a curve, use less depth, the curve is not symmetrical--no one will care. This is what I usually grab my 1/4" router for (I've got a Porter Cable 1/4" that's 40 years old. Can't figure out how to take it apart to replace the cord. Rather than a $60 trip to the tool repair I'm thinking of this one, vacuum dust collection is a plus). Shelf dados, usually 1/2 to 3/4" wide, is best done with a more powerful 1/2" router, but you can get by with this with two passes (overlapping) of a 1/2" straight bit. Plunge routing: always use dust collection. Freehand scroll work: 1/8 or 1/4" round bits- I don't do this, others do. If you don't yet have a router, or a specific shop need, get a 1/4". If you think you need one of those $400 router tables: don't. Make your own or buy a jointer. Figuring out how to make a router table will teach you about making jigs (you can make a fence that has finer adjustment than the fanciest most expensive one on the market) Direction of working. There's a correct direction to running a router along the edge of a board. With plywood, pine, fir, spruce, etc.. going the correct way can rip out long splinters. If you first make a very shallow pass in the 'wrong' direction to knock off the edge, then go normal depth in the correct direction, you can avoid this. (I still don't know if I want this router or not. There were 6 opened and reclosed boxes (returns?) at the Home Depot. Why?)

Answer:	Yes, but it is a much better used as router than a door or frame hinge.

Answer:	Cringe. I have never used this router for that, but I did accidentally do that with a PC router on a router table. I don't recommend it at all. It trimmed the bone and flesh along with the fingernail.

Answer:	This router has both a 1/4" and 1/2" collet so it will accept both size shank bits. I prefer the buy 1/2" shank myself especially in larger bits, they are a little more expensive but seem to run better and last longer. When it comes to brands of router bit Freud is always the first place I shop. I have also had really good success with CMT and Bosch because my local big box store doesn't carry Freud. One thing I will saw about router bits is its always better to buy quality bits they will last for years and produce better results. Amazon has some nice bits sets that come with a lot of common bits that are nice for a person new to the router.

Question:	I see people mentioning old batteries and small batteries but no models. What exact model battery should I be buying for this
Answer:	This trim router works great with the 2 Ah battery. I wouldn't go with anything more unless you like a lot of top heavy weight. The 2 Ah battery makes it a pleasure to use and will easily last as long as it takes to charge your spare. The reason you are buying this is for light weight and convenience. Don't make it heavy and bulky with a big battery. I use the BL1820B battery with this router for edge trimming and other light duty tasks. If you need run it all day long making large cuts, buy a bigger router.

Question:	Why two wrenches? Also why is there extra collet nut things? Thanks
Answer:	You can either use the button and one wrench or two wrenches. With two wrenches you can get a tighter nut. This can help with certain bits to avoid chatter. If you don't have great hand strength, two wrenches are definitely better. The extra collet is for a different size router bit shank (3/8") which is rare, but my dovetail jig router bit is 3/8" This means I could use this router with that jig. Otherwise I'd have to use a 1/2" shank router with an adapter.
Question:	Can the wired accessories to the cordless be interchangeable
Answer:	I have the corded router, the cordless router and the plunge base that came bundled with the corded model. The plunge base does in fact mount on the cordless router identically. That's all I can confirm for certain, but the two models appear to be machined the same (though the battery compartment does hang out farther from center, interphering with the full extension of the plunge base depth guide bolt, but only at the extreme of the bolt's capacity - if that is explained well)

Answer:	No, it does not come with any bits, And they require 1/4" bits, other than that, that's it. There is a whole world of selection out there. There is also 1/2" bits; they are used by more heavy duty routers.
Question:	can you use both 1/4 and 1/2 in collets
Answer:	From an experienced woodworker: this router comes with a 0.25” collet (for 0.25” shanks). However, if you have a 0.50” collet (for 0.50” shanks) this will work IF the router bit head is smaller than 1-⅜”, that is your limitation, the base. Also beware that larger bits can bog down the router as it is only 1.25 hp, that larger 618 would be a better choice. Straight bits and round overs are good bit to limit this use. Chamfers and raised panel type bits should be avoided. There’s a lot of terms in these precious answers which are confused and misinformation.

Answer:	Sure. It will work fine for light duty table routing using 1/4” bits. It’s pretty robust for what is basically a trim router. Keep in mind the larger bits are all 1/2” and will not fit this router’s collet. The 1/2” bits are designed for heavy duty work on large routers. In other words, it will work, but only for light duty work.

Answer:	You can make it fit any router. I had to add holes for my RotoGrip. Base is 3/8 plastic. It has many holes and slots for installing almost any router.

Answer:	They only have in’s font style that I know of. Size is 2 1/2” and 1 1/2”. All are 1/4” thick but different widths.

Answer:	I am not sure about that but with enough duct tape, screws, epoxy, and good old American ingenuity, anything is possible! Seriously though, i know there are multiple screw holes in the base plate, but whether or not they will line up to your Porter cable jig, i am not entirely sure. I do know this is a great router, its the first one I have owned, but not the first I have used. Plenty of power for bigger bits and smooth precise adjustments, easy to handle and manipulate. Quieter than alot of others I have used.

Answer:	We have just purchased a (GOF 1600 CE) router from Bosch. This router is 220 volts and came with two bases. This router will not operate in a conventional router lift, as the power switch is on the handle and not on the motor. The unit was supplied with two bases, one plunge base and one non plunge base. The non plunge base may be used to mount the router to a table. Is what Bosch needs, is a kit to make the router work in a proper router lift.

Answer:	You do not - need - to buy it. However, you may still want to buy it if you plan to use the router above table. To eliminate the hassle of installing the router’s base which comes with the router (with the two handles) under the router table, and later having to convert it back for non-table use, Bosch offers the optional RA1165 under table Router Base. The RA1165 base (that is sold separately) is designed to be permanently attached your router table, leaving the router base that comes with the router ready for non-table use. Wish other router manufactures got smart and did this too.

Answer:	This router has both a 1/4" and 1/2" collet so it will accept both size shank bits. I prefer the buy 1/2" shank myself especially in larger bits, they are a little more expensive but seem to run better and last longer. When it comes to brands of router bit Freud is always the first place I shop. I have also had really good success with CMT and Bosch because my local big box store doesn't carry Freud. One thing I will saw about router bits is its always better to buy quality bits they will last for years and produce better results. Amazon has some nice bits sets that come with a lot of common bits that are nice for a person new to the router.
