Question:	Do i need to have a high speed bench grinder or slow speed
Answer:	Slower is better than higher. Try not to use a wheel that is lower than 80 grit. 100 seems best. If you go up to high, you end up heating the tool too much.

Answer:	For scrapers and gouges, I use a belt sander. For skews and bedans I use a wet stone grinder. I use a polishing wheel with emery compound to hone all my blades between sharpenings.

Answer:	Basically, you will need a 7mm MT2 mandrel and your tools. When you order your pen kits, make sure you get the bushings and drill bit. Depending on how you finish the pens, you may need a buffing system. For acrylics, get a set of micro pads, they really bring the shine out. I also use a "french polish" and shellac to put a lasting hard coat on the finished product. Good luck and enjoy the lathe.

Answer:	It was not be cost effective because you would need too many attachments. You’d have to modify the tool rest. It would turn it but you couldn’t hold the tool to turn it without modifications. There are lathes out there built for using with aluminum. Hope this helps

Question:	is there an adapter for the face plate for mounting live center chucks? I bought one but won't line up with holes
Answer:	I'm not sure if they make the adapter to mount on the face plat. I have a 2" diameter three jaw,self centering scroll type chuck that i bought from Amazon that ihave used that works great,but i think that the holes in the face plate is for mounting a backing block to the piece of wood stock to turn a bowl. It says in the manual that you glue the block to the wood your turning and use the holes to screw the block on to face plate. Hope this helped.
Question:	What size wood stock can it hold? How about something like 12'' long by 8" wide piece of wood
Answer:	The length it will hold will be dependant upon what chucks you have in the head and tail stock. The bulkier the chucks, the shorter the length it will handle. I'd say it will hold 12" lengths unless your chucks are sizable. I wouldn't try more than 4" width stock unless it was short. Although the lathe may hold the stock, it would be too much for the motor. The intended purpose of this lathe is to make small things like ink pens, Christmas ornaments, small toys like tops or yo-yo's and tool handles etc. If you want to mount 12" X 8" stock you should be looking at full sized lathes.
Question:	is there anyway to secure to a bench
Answer:	Yes. It has has three holes in the base that you can bolt it down with. I bolted mine down on a metal stand. It holds it down real solid. Mine is the Shop Fox W1704 also. It is well built. I really like mine. Hope this helps!

Question:	Are there negative rake replacement cutters available for these tools? If so can I get the part numbers? Thanks
Answer:	Look for easy wood tools inserts. Their inserts fit the Savannah carbide tools and are great. They have a negative rake insert. Just make sure to reuse the screw that came with the Savannah carbide tools because they have a flat section and the easy wood tools screw is too long.
Question:	What is the total length of these chisels? Are they full size chisels
Answer:	21" from the cutter head to the bottom of the chisel. They are very comfortable and stable to use.
Question:	Are these good for spindle turning as well as bowls
Answer:	They cut like a hot knife through butter I have used them for spindles, bowls, pepper mills, bottle stoppers and even making pens. I don't even use my HSS gouges any more since getting used to using these super sharp tools and the best part is when they do get dull you just turn the tips 1/4 turn and start again.

Answer:	These so come with cutter tips. However, I have been unable to determine the size to order additional tips. Savannah does sell additional tips, but if you want to purchase other brands then you will have to guess at the size.

Answer:	I think they are made in China. I am going to make new handles for mine. the brass ferule came off mine after a little use. Other wise I would say they are a good tool for a lot less. I have made my own bigger ones but did not have time to make these smaller ones.

As you can search on amazon, our price is very competitive, but without comprising on quality ( return the tool set if you are not happy with it) the set includes replacement inserts as you will always need them if you use the carbide tools.
Question:	I need negative rake inserts as well. What size do i need
Answer:	Hi, currently we don’t sell negative rake inserts. If you want to turn the synthetic material like resin or acrylic, simply raise your tool rest so that the cutting edge of the insert is about 1/8 inch above center, present your tool to the blank at a slightly downward angle. Or, Use a roughing gouge till the very end then use carbide for finish cuts.
