User questions & answers
Question: | Is this made in the USA |
Answer: | This sanding screen is made for plaster unlike sandpaper will clog up and this screen won’t. I would suggest a good quality of sandpaper instead. |
Question: | Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the mounting plate from bolt hole to bolt hole |
Answer: | I believe that is what they are intended for, however I cut them in half and use to clean water deposits off porcelain toilets & such. |
Question: | what is the waranty on this vise ? LIFE TIME |
Answer: | The 3M 03148 Black sanding block uses hook and loop sand paper attachment. The 05519 block uses regular sheets of sand paper that "clip" into the slots. |
Question: | Is this powder coated |
Answer: | Not sure, this is designed for woodworking. The ends are slotted horizontally so when you open an end, you push the sandpaper in as far as it goes. It has tacks embedded in the upper slot that grab the paper when you release the base. The rubber keeps the paper tight. As long as your 5000 grit is durable & thick enough, it should work on flat surfaces. |

Answer: | The jaws are 8 inches wide. |
Question: | how wide are the Jaws |
Answer: | Looks like about 3/4" |
Question: | What is the smallest diameter of pipe that the pipe grip section will hold |
Answer: | About 3" square. |
Question: | What are the anvil dimensions |
Answer: | That is the actual vise size. I have had mine a year or more and it is the best for the money. $100 to $250 cheaper than a wilton (they are good!!!!) and I think a great value. I would advise to buy it. Mine is on a portable welder setup, gets used and abused and it never fails. BUY IT!!!!!!! Brad |
Question: | The dimensions in the Amazon details show this vise as 18 x 9 x 8. Is this boxed shipping size and, if so, what is the actual vise size |
Answer: | My vise did not have that featue. It is a strong and functional piece of equipment. Very tough! |
Question: | Some versions of these vices (bessey bv-df's) have adjustment screws for the jaws. I can't tell from the pictures, do these have that feature |
Answer: | Yes, there is a T-handle screw-down on each side of the vise that allows the vise to be very securely tightened to the swivel base. |
Question: | Does the swivel lock down securely? Thanks |
Answer: | Jaw thickness is approximately 1" (0.98" is what I measured) - throat depth is 3.69". Also note that the jaws themselves are not replaceable since they are cast into the unit itself (if that matters). |
Question: | How thick are the jaws (from top to bottom |
Answer: | Up to 10 inch if you put some stank on it |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where do you get replacement jaws |
Answer: | Can use with wood, but jaws are designed for metal. Jaw inserts will help but a dedicated wood vise would be best. |
Question: | Ok to use with wood |
Answer: | This is a very good vice that's made in China. The "Proudly Made in the U.S.A." 5" jaw vices from Wilton are both part of the USA Bullet line and include the Combo Pipe & Bench Vice which starts at about $1,100 and the Tradesman Vice which is a lighter weight version and can be had for about $400-$500. |
Question: | Is this made in the US or China |
Answer: | I believe this is model is made in either China or Taiwan, the castings seem to be above average quality it's fairly heavy. I bought it for it's jaw size and double swivel locks as my usage isn't extreme duty. If your usage is extreme, choose one of their U.S. made models which typically have a 50% cost premium. |
Question: | What is the country of origin of this product |
Answer: | Typically Wilton will not put the country of origin on the product unless it is Made in USA. So the answer to your question is no. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why are some people stating that this product is not made in the US |
Answer: | It is covered by a "limited lifetime warranty". I do not have the paperwork that came with my vise to see what is specifically stated, so a searched the web to see what that really meant. I believe that it is confusing at best. One owner posted that, when he took his vise to a Wilton repair center, he was told that the "lifetime" referred to the projected life of the vise and not the original owner. He said that he was told that the warranty for this vise was 6 years. I think that I would have pursued it back through Wilton to get clarification. I have used my vise for over 8 years and have found to be a fantastically well made vise. I have had no problems. |
Question: | What is the warranty |
Answer: | Mine says made in USA so far i have beat the hell out of mine and use a 24" cheater pipe for extra clamp force .favorite vice of the 4 in my shop 2 are wilton's 2 are ? My older Wilton is 50 years old and looks like it it has been abused its whole life. Aside from broken replacement jaws it keeps coming back for more and i see no sign the 1765 wont ether. |
Question: | Ok, some faq's from indicate this was made in the usa, but from 2014. is this vise still made in the usa |
Answer: | In 2017 we bought this vice, as was made in good USA. The 6 inch, Wilton, we bought was foreign made and we returned it. Order it, if it comes to you made other than US A, return it. We support U S A products and support and hire veterans. We have several Wilton vices made in USA, and they last. Imports are junk to us. |
Question: | Which is it? us made or not? ...many conflicting reviews...can someone from wilton or a seller chime in to confirm the country of origin |
Answer: | AMAZON. It's where I ordered the vise |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it made out of steel or pop metal |
Answer: | This is all made out of steel and cast iron. Pot metal aka... die-cast zinc would be useless for a vise. |
Question: | Does this vise rotate 360 degrees |
Answer: | It will with a caveat. There is a channel with T-shaped receivers in it, similar to what a machinist table will utilize to hold down equipment. There is a section of cast iron directly across from each other in the channel that links the inner circle (under the vise itself), to the outer ring which has the bolt holes for attaching to a work bench. When installed, you can rotate approximately 160 degrees. To get the jaws to the other side of the circle, you would have to remove the vise from the bench and rotate, or remove the vice from the pedestal and reattach. you loose approximately 30 to 40 degrees of the entire 360 to account for the connecting bar. |
Question: | dose this vise have replaceable jaws |
Answer: | Wilton does not list a replacement Jaw part # for this model, even though they say they are replacable, Calling Wilton didn't help. Nobody could find this 11106 replacement jaws |
Question: | why does amazon say this is made of steal when if you look at the website it says Made from 30,000 PSI gray cast iron |
Answer: | The bench vise is made out of high-strength steel. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a warranty on the vice |
Answer: | it's best to use sandpaper a little bigger than the block, in this case one that's 3-2/3 would work fine, if you are using a full size sheet you can always cut to your desireable size to fit. |
Question: | what is the maximum opening distance of the jaws |
Answer: | What about in 2019. Is it still made in China? |
Question: | What is the mounting bolt hole pattern |
Answer: | I have the purple ones.Thanks,Mike |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | Place the piece of sandpaper (cut to size, either 1/4 sheet or 1/3 sheet, I can't remember) rough side down and back side facing up. Place the sandblaster on top with an equal amount at each end. (There should be very little overlap on the sides.) There is a release on each end that will open a set of jaws. Tuck the sandpaper into the opening and tighten each end. The first end will go in easy, but the other end must be pulled tight before closing the jaw or it will bunch up and tear when you try to use it. It does take a little practice to get it right, but once it is tight, it is a great sander. |
