History and HeritageIn 1884, Master Cutler Karl Elsener opened a cutlery shop in Ibach, Switzerland. There, he and the cutlers’ union he formed produced the finest steel cutlery, finished with the now-famous proprietary edge preferred globally by professional and home cooks. In 1891, Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife and in 1897 with the Officer’s Knife. In 1921, after the death of his mother, Victoria, and with the advent of stainless steel, then known as “inoxydable" and used in the production of his cutlery, Karl changed the name of the company to Victorinox. It is from those humble beginnings that a worldwide icon was born.Today, Victorinox is still owned and operated by the Elsener family, and both the company and family still resides in the small village of Ibach, Switzerland. Care Tips for Swiss Army KnivesThe various tools are manufactured from high-quality steel with precisely tuned features that are essential for the particular application. The steel is tempered, annealed and polished to achieve the necessary hardness and provide optimum resistance to corrosion.SharpeningTo re-sharpen your knife, use a whetstone at an angle of 15°– 20°. This will result in a cutting angle of 30°– 40°. If sharpening on a grinding wheel, always cool with plenty of water to avoid excessive temperatures and the resulting damages that may occur.CleaningAfter you’ve used your Swiss Army Knife for all of its various applications, such as cutting open numerous boxes, you may notice that the blades begin to stick together. Opening and closing the blades in warm water several times will allow the tools to easily move again. Once they have dried, it is recommended, to apply a small drop of oil between the blade or tool shank and the spring. To optimally maintain the locking mechanism, periodically apply a drop of our recommended Swiss Army Knife Oil. Never put Swiss Army Knives in the dishwasher.
From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army Knife a century ago comes the Soldier Knife, a compact multi-tool for camping, hiking, hunting, or around-the-house use. Field tested and approved by the North American Hunting Club, this version of the Soldier Knife is stylishly cased in an olive-green housing with the familiar Victorinox logo on the side. More importantly, the unit contains a variety of classic Swiss Army tools, including a one-handed serrated locking blade, a Phillips screwdriver, a can opener, a small screwdriver, a bottle opener, a large locking screwdriver, a wire stripper, a reamer, a key ring, and a wood saw. As with all Victorinox items, the Soldier Knife is made to exacting standards, with dozens of steps going into its construction. Victorinox attends to every detail, from selecting the finest materials to performing the final inspection. In addition, each individual tool has been hardened in a different way to stand up to its designated use. The Soldier Knife--which measures 4-3/8 inches long--carries a lifetime warranty.
About Swiss Army Knives
? In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Innovation is our tradition and has been ever since we patented the first Swiss Army Knife in 1897. As we continue to find new ways to improve our knives we also strive to apply better solutions that meet new requirements and our customers unarticulated needs.
Iconic Design
In 1891 Karl Elsener, the owner of Victorinox, was under contract by the Swiss Army to produce a folding pocket knife to be suitable for use by soldiers for opening canned food and disassembling the Swiss service rifle. Elsener invented a special spring mechanism allowing him to attach the tools on both sides of the handle, using the same spring to hold the tools in place. This innovative design meant Elsener could put twice as many features on the knife, which included a blade, a second smaller cutting blade, reamer, can-opener, screwdriver, corkscrew, and wood fiber grips. The Swiss Army Knife is the most recognizable icon of utility and smart design, and the knives are still made exclusively in only two factories in Switzerland.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you purchase replacement blades |
Answer: | I haven't used Havalon blades specifically, but the holding mechanism is standard for the blades we use in surgery. I looked up Havelon and they make a #24 blade. It looks to me that it should fit. I may try them myself as the blades wear out very quickly! |
Question: | Does this knife have a locking mechanism |
Answer: | 130 g to 135 g is Victorinox' specified weight. |
Question: | Will this knife accept havelon blades |
Answer: | It is a great knife. It would work fine for opening cardboard boxes. If you open an enormous amount of boxes and need to open the knife quickly (one handed), something with a single blade and thumb stud may be more suitable though. The main blade on this can be opened with one hand but it takes a little practice getting used to. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what size are the star screws holding the belt clip on |
Answer: | If you can afford a carving jack why would you even consider buying this ??? don't get me wrong it's a good little knife for the money but it's bulky and not ergonomic at all your hand will hurt after a wile and the blades don't lock like the carving jack . You'll have to sharpen it to your liking ,but I rather loose a $ 25 knife in the woods than a $140 any day of the week. over all it's not a bad little knife once is sharpened |
Question: | What is the handle made of |
Answer: | We do not carry a left handed model. |
Question: | I bought this knife and opened it fine. Now I can't close it! Can someone please help |
Answer: | This is sad. I am 63 years old and remember when "Schrade" and "Uncle Henry" were brand names of knives you were PROUD to own and showed off to all your friends. Fortunately I do still have one old 'Uncle Henry" old enough to be of good quality. I recall sharpening a knife (Uncle Henry) for our Sgt and when he cut himself with it the doctor (took 12 stitches inside & out to sew him up) said it looked like he had been cut with a scalpel. I bet you couldn't get one of these new knives that sharp. |
Question: | Can you clean a deer with it |
Answer: | To all those complaining about the blades not locking, a blade lock was developed to keep a knife from closing when it is used to stab, like a folding skinner going through thick hide at the start of a cut (which is the wrong way to start that cut, too, by the way). If you are using this tool in any way that causes the blades to close on your fingers, you don't know how to use the tool, and you're looking for a hardware fix for a training deficiency. Stop blaming the tool and fix your ignorance. Nobody is born knowing how to use a carving knife, or any other type of knife, any more than they're born knowing how to use a hammer, saw, drill, gun, stove, oven, or jackhammer, and you shouldn't expect to expertly use a tool until you've spent some time learning how to. |

Question: | Is there a version of this in Black? I don't particularly care for fde |
Answer: | No, FDE only. |
Question: | Is there some sort of locking mechanism to keep the knife in the sheath when you are wearing it |
Answer: | It’s plastic not sure what country it’s from but American plastic is about the same quality. Seeing that you could buy a $3 dowel rod from Walmart and cut it down and make it work I’m not sure what you’re for. |
Question: | Is this available in black |
Answer: | Search for “scalpel blades #22/#23/#24 ” on Amazon and you can purchase replacement blades for it. |
Question: | Is this cheap chinese steel |
Answer: | No it is a slip joint |

User questions & answers
Question: | A review said that knife arrived dull, bevel angle not same on both sides, blade not centered, and screws visible on inside. Anyone with these issues |
Answer: | Above, in About the Product, says, “ Blade Length: 3.40" (8.64cm)” |
Question: | My knife came sharp but caught on one spot during paper test. i was able to get rid of the spot with a carbide sharperner..sign of fake or possible |
Answer: | Yes, but putting it back together is another story. I've had Benchmade Axis Lock knives for years and the only reason I ever took one apart was just out of curiosity, and it was tricky to get back together. They're very easy to clean without disassembly. |
Question: | What is the length of the cutting edge on this blade |
Answer: | The UAE is an oil state with what essentially amounts to a large majority of non-citizen slaves from South Asia doing the low-skilled labor and wealthy citizens who do not really work living some of the most privileged lives in the world. This is a finely crafted product with "Swiss" heritage. Do some critical thinking. Why on earth would they make this there? |
Question: | is the knife easy to take apart and clean |
Answer: | Yes. Very. |
Product description
Serve. Protect. The Provoke knife draws on ancient karambit design but it’s hiding a futuristic secret. The first knife ever to feature Kinematic technology, it stays neatly tucked away in transit and comes to life when there’s trouble afoot.
Around here, we think of Designer Joe Caswell as somewhat of a mad scientist. When we got an eyeful of the sketches that were to become the Provoke—designed in Newbury Park, California—we knew he was destined to become one of the most innovative designers the knife world has ever seen. Modeled after a traditional karambit, the black oxide-finished hawkbill-style blade is forged of a premium D2 steel for high durability and excellent edge retention.
The opening mechanism is pulling the folder into the future whether it’s ready or not. Thumb pressure on the upper crossbar sets the chain reaction in motion, causing the blade to lunge to action while you’ve got a firm grasp on the handle. It’s crafted of aircraft-grade 6061 aluminum for supreme toughness. In true Joe fashion, the pocket clip is also a world’s first—sitting almost completely flush with the handle and likewise activated with light thumb pressure.
The Provoke comes up strong when it’s called in for duty.
How Kinematic Works
Nudge the upper crossbar with your thumb—while the rest of your fingers firmly grasp the handle—and the blade lunges to life and locks into place. Shift the discrete lever at the base of the finger loop and the blade retreats into its closed position.
Specifications:
Blade Length: 2.41" (61.21 mm)
Edge: Plain
Steel: D2
Blade Finish: Black Titanium Nitride
Blade Thickness: 0.209" (5.31 mm)

Open Length: 7.25" (184.15 mm)
Weight: 6.1 oz (172.93g)

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this legal in New York |
Answer: | It says Taiwan on the box |
Question: | Wondering if this is a genuine crkt product since it is substantially cheaper on Amazon than just about everywhere else on the interwebs |
Answer: | This thing is a tank, well made. As far as if it's worth $200 that all depends on what your wallet looks like. I'm not sorry I got it & as soon as I own a knife I forget how much I paid just in case the wife asks... |
Question: | Don’t see made in USA anywhere |
Answer: | Yeah I ordered this knife and it arrived open box, used, and the blade was not centered. Sorry but for this price I want new. |
Question: | is it worth $200? is it up to bm, zt, etc quality |
Answer: | I'd be real surprised if you got a counterfeit from Amazon. The edges on these blades are known to be a little 'toothy', I think that's probably what you're seeing. Definitely a sharp edge, but not the mirror polish that other blades have. As far as checking if it's counterfeit, look at the blue spacers on the back of the handle. They should be a very bright and shiny blue. The counterfeits I've seen had spacers that were more of a dull blue. |

From humble beginnings in his homemade forge occupying his garage, he’s built a name for himself one hard-working late night at a time, and we can’t wait to see what come from his inspired creativity next.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this the green handle or black handle |
Answer: | I think even the Randals Adventure Training (RAT) were made in Taiwan. If they were USA made you would be paying $150 for one. Lots of youtube videos on the RAT 1. So buy one or two! |
Question: | Is this knife spring assisted in the opening |
Answer: | 3 3/4 from center of handle to tip. |
Question: | Is this a genuine rat or a knock off |
Answer: | It can be considered a gravity knife, and the retention ring can allow for knuckle knife interpretation. So it’s really going to depend on the circumstance for which the legality of the blade is in question. If they want to nab you they’re going to nab you and even if it if you get the case dismissed, that’s going to cost more than the value of the knife. Don’t wear it on your pocket with the clip out or exposed, especially when riding the train. End of the day it’s New York so it’s really up to the cop that’s questioning you at the end of the day. There’s been situations where they simply confiscate it and others where they’ll book you and the charges are dropped. These days the city cops have been saying folding knives are illegal while fixed blades are legal. The ambiguity of the legality leaves a lot to question. If you’re going to carry a knife with you in the city that’s legal, it’ll help to carry one that’s tiny with no locking mechanism or even a Swiss army style multi tool. |
Question: | How long is the blade exactly |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can one thumb stud be removed from one side of the blade? I saw a video review that the studs tear up pockets because they stick out so much |
Answer: | It is 814 steel |
Question: | What's the blade length |
Answer: | I am not positive but I know it is either China or Taiwan. Either way, it is a great knife. The belt clip is the best I've ever had. |
Question: | what steel is used for the blade |
Answer: | Black handle. Good folding work knife. Rugged. |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | No, I wish it were. That aside, I have thoroughly enjoyed this knife. It is extremely sharp right out of the box and it's tough as nails. |

Product description
We have produced Kit Carson's popular M16 line in many variations over the past decade. Our glass filled nylon version has built the largest user base of all. These knives are built for function, not fad, and they are exceptional values.
Our new M16 ZLEK line uses our very successful InterFrame construction, with tough, textured glass filled nylon scales over a 420J2 stainless steel liner InterFrame and solid glass filled nylon back spacers. We assemble the handle with superior offset Torx fasteners.
For professional use, we've added a seat belt cutter to the Carson Flipper, and a tungsten carbide window breaker at the butt. Automobile side windows shatter with one quick whack from the butt of the knife.
All components receive a tough tactical black coating. The Flipper can be pressed for fast one-hand opening, and creates a blade guard when open. We use our premium AUS 8 high-carbon stainless steel for the blades, which have Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point Serrated edges to easily cut rope, cord, canvas, and vegetation.
All three models are fitted with our automated liner safety. Automated liner safety is the locking liner safety innovation taken to the next level. The automated liner safety sets a pin between the locking liner and the frame. This pin acts as an additional layer of safety, so the locking liner is less likely to disengage during use. To close the knife, pull the red buttoned safety lever back, slide the locking liner over, and fold the blade into the closed position.
M16-14ZLEK. The "Big Dog" M16 is a hefty 6.2-ounce knife with a 3.75"- long Tanto blade that is able to tackle any emergency task. This larger model features a four-position clip, allowing carry on belts or webbing— tip up, tip down, left or right. Please note: These knives are not designed for tip-up in pocket carry.
Full professional features. Non-reflective black finish. Exceptional affordability. Kit Carson rides again.

User questions & answers
Question: | Do they make one with a straight edge |
Answer: | My cutter also wiggled, but I was able to use an eye glass screw driver to tighten it fully. Maybe adjust the distance from the handle. Also, my art instructor told me to remove the oil that I had put into the grip oil reservoir since it had been leaking from the blade. He said that most of the glass cutters do leak the oil. Instead, I put a sponge in a small container, put the oil into the sponge and run the blade across the sponge to lubricate it. |
Question: | Is the clip made of steel |
Answer: | you'd better put the glass on a flat surface, wipe clean the glass where you want to cut with a clean cloth. |
Question: | does it come with a belt case |
Answer: | later we will launch 6pack of this glass cutter, when you need heads in the future, you can contact with us by email, customer service will help u. |
Question: | Why won’t amazon ship to NY |
Answer: | dear customer It has 2 replaceable cutter heads, One is for cutting 2mm-6mm thickness glass, the other is for 6mm-12mm. |

The Knife That Changed Everything
Few at CRKT still remember the day that Kit Carson revealed his original M16 design. Those that do knew right away that it was something special.
The anatomy of the M16 and the Carson Flipper are both now mainstays of the M16 design. The Carson Flipper ultimately earned him a spot in the Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall of Fame. In the end, though, Kit’s memory is eternalized in his dedication to his craft, service to our country, and the number of lives he impacted along the way.
Iconic Handle Design
Universally recognizable, the bored holes in the face of each M16 handle sets it apart from other knifes in the industry. The shapely ergonomic design makes for a bomber grip amid rain, grit, and grime.
Carson Flipper Opening
True to its tactical nature, the Carson Flipper balances performance and safety. Light pressure rapidly deploys the blade. Once open, the flipper becomes a blade guard to protect digits in hard-use situations.
Veff Serrations
Some hone edges. Others, like “Edgeologist” Tom Veff, reinvent them. These patented Veff Serrations makes for superior cutting of cordage, rope, and fibrous materials.
Automated Liner Safety
When open, this next-level safety innovation sets a pin between the liner and the frame to keep it super secure while it’s in use. Closing is just as simple—move the red pin aside and push back the liner as usual.

Answer: | Hi Ashlea, No, this is a spring-assisted opening, locking knife! it is newer technology. the patented "magic" spring -assist acts on the flipping of a lever forward, and locks open until you push directly against the lock lever, which allows it to close. this is like a switchblade, but operates with a totally different mechanism. this is also avery sharp,spear-pointed tanto blade!i highly recommend this knife! |
