User questions & answers
Question: | Does the blade come with a cover to protect the teeth when not using it |
Answer: | I have cut 4X4 pine post to shape legs..it works perfectly fine. Be slow and it does its own work with super finish |
Question: | id like to buy all the suizan product line are the blades replaceable ? if so where can i order the Blades |
Answer: | Japanese saws are normally much too thin to track in a western mitre box .Also western saws you can alter the cut but japanese saws you can not .so if you go off course with a japanese saw it is better to start a different cut line. |
Question: | Hope long do blades last |
Answer: | It says 22 crosscut and 9 rip in the description. |
Question: | What other saws should i buy for a started set in addition to this saw |
Answer: | I don't believe there are any manufacturer's instructions in English. I own 3 Gyokucho Japanese Saws (including this one), and I found the best info regarding the proper use of this saw on that popular video site. Just do a search for "Using Japanese Pull Saws", and you will find a plethora of instructional videos. These saws do require a certain technique that is vastly different from their western counterparts, but once you see it done, you'll be able to start practicing it. And once you get the hang of it (mostly just a light touch and the proper cutting angle), you will really enjoy using this saw. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is the blade? Can it be used for crosscuts and rips in hardwood |
Answer: | The blade is 7 and 3/16 inches long. Coarse teeth on one side of the blade and fine teeth on the other side enable both ripping and crosscutting with the same blade. I have used these saws for years. You can do very fine work with them, and if you are careful they will last for a long time. They are superior to any American saw for small handwork. |
Question: | What are the exact dimensions for the blade? I am Looking for height from teeth to spine, kerf, and length of cutting portion of the blade |
Answer: | cutting portion of blade is 18 centimeters; 5 1/2 centimeters at the short end of blade; 7 centimeters at the long end of the blade; kerf is 1 millimeter. |
Question: | Where is this saw made |
Answer: | they are made in japan and they are the best i have had. much sharper than any others i have bought. would highly recommend. |
Question: | Is this saw really durable? Can it used for tennon cutting? Can it be sharpen |
Answer: | This is a very good saw. I don't know if you're familiar with Japanese saws already, but they cut on the pull stroke. If you position yourself so that you are holding the saw at a 45 degree angle with the tip of the handle pointing towards the floor and pulling down into the cut, kind of like crouching in front of the wood with the wood higher than your hand, you will get the best results. I had a tendency at first to hold the saw like a western saw that you would PUSH into the cut, holding the handle above the wood with the saw plate angled down to the wood and the handle higher than the saw plate like I wanted to push the saw-cut down into the wood. That does not work. If used on the downward pull-stroke, this saw cuts super-clean. You could cut tenons with this saw, but I have found I use this saw more for odds and ends. It's very small and not as precise as some of the other gyokucho saws. If you want to cut great tenons and dovetails, then go with one of the gyokucho saws with the longer white colored handles. I bought the 303 on Amazon too and it is great for joinery. And it's only like 10 dollars more. Well worth it. And no, the blade cannot to be sharpened, but the teeth are induction hardened, and when eventually they dull, you can order a replacement blade that is very easy to replace onto the handle. And when you buy only the replacement blade it's very affordable. |

User questions & answers
Question: | how many teeth per inch |
Answer: | 15 to 30 depending upon the style. T%here is a table on Amazon but it does not list the 7 inches but this puts you in the ballpark. |
Question: | I took down a pergola so now I have six 4” square posts protruding from the concrete patio. I'd like to cut them off flush. Will one of these do it |
Answer: | As described, the cutting edge is 7", but due to the spline on the back of the blade (you can see in the photo), the "working" edge is 6" which would limit you to a 2" cutting stroke. It would be tedious at best. I would think a better process for what you want to do is cut it close with any kind of saw available and then "grind" it flush with a shaper blade on a hand grinder. Maybe someone makes a bigger version of this saw. I would not attempt to do what you want with this specific saw. |
Question: | will the 7 inch blade fit the 6 inch saw |
Answer: | You would have to contact the SUIZAN web site. |
Question: | How do I purchase a replacement blade for this? The Amazon link from your website takes me to a new saw, not a replacement blade |
Answer: | I had the same problem at first. Easy way: type in Suizan replacement blades, and it takes you to the site, Multiple blade choices. Good saws. As fine as the teeth are I'm surprised they last as long as they do. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use this saw for cutting kumiko strips |
Answer: | You should be able to buy it’s not that fine. I’d go with a finer larger dozuki for that. I’m a furniture maker and use kumiko for much of my work. If recomend getting one with at least 22tpi if you are doing very thin strips like 1-3mm thick 1/16-1/8”. If doing much thicker beginners work I’d say this would be fine just not large enough so still would recommend a larger one. |
Question: | Think this will cut a 4 x 8 bamboo strip sheet. It's flimsy since it's only 1/16 inch thick. lifting motion cause trouble cutting |

Answer: | I use mine both ways with good results, but predominantly for cross cutting. The stiffener on the back pretty much limits use for ripping. Not to disagree with Old Sailor who probably has better eyes, but under my magnifying lamp it really appears to be a ripcut with no set. Whichever, they are very good and useful saws. I have been using them for 35 or 40 years. |

Japanese saws cut materials via pulling and thus are called “pull saws.”
It requires less power, realizes exceedingly smooth and accurate cut, and results that the cutting-section is clean.
And particularly this saw's blade is sharper and thinner (0.012 inch), and has a greater number of teeth per inch (25 TPI) than comparable saws of its size.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this saw work well with hardwoods |
Answer: | China, and poorly made as well. The saw will arrive stuck in the case. |
Question: | is this price for one thing |
Answer: | No it does not have an extension. It is a basic close up cutting saw that works very well. If you want to get beyond your reachI would suggest another saw. |
Question: | Will this cut through bone |
Answer: | Cuts mainly on the pull-stroke. That's where the curve of the blade becomes effective as it "dives" deeper removing material on the frontside of the cut leaving less material to cut on the next stroke and so on. |
Question: | What materials were used in making the handle for this saw? It is difficult to tell from the photos if the bands are bamboo, plastic or |
Answer: | I just received mine and had this problem. The blade was protruding from the end of the scabbard and I think it was forcibly inserted and become stuck. I tapped the protruding part of the saw blade with a hammer until it popped back in the scabbard. Now I can remove it without too much difficulty. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What replacement blade does this use |
Answer: | We have our own replacement blades for the "GoSaw" and will make them available on Amazon.com this week. This saw is a fairly recent addition to our line and most customers have not used it enough to need a new blade. But we have them and will start a new listing by Tuesday after the holiday. Thanks for asking. Jim the Owner. |
Question: | Can the blade be sharpened |
Answer: | Noah, Thanks for you inquiry. Yes, the teeth of the GoSaw blade can be sharpened. It does take some work and correct type of file but, if you know how to do it, it can be done. If you keep the blade lightly oiled before and after pruning, the blade will stay sharp longer. Oil will help keep sap from gumming up the teeth. I hope this answers your question. Thanks. Jim the Owner |
Question: | Does it come with a cover, or is one available for it |
Answer: | It comes in a thin cardboard sheath. It wouldn't serve well as a rugged cover to withstand rolling sound with other tools, but it works well for simple protection around the house. I use it. |
Question: | Fit's mr. long arm? 3/4 acme threads |
Answer: | Yes, the threaded insert used for the "GoSaw" is compatible with the acme-threaded tips on all Mr. LongArm poles. Please note that we have found the metal acme tip on the 16ft. Mr. LongArm pole sold at Home Depot is slightly longer than the tip on some of their other poles. The "GoSaw" still fits the tip on the 16ft pole but may need a firm last turn to fully seat. Use of the Set Screw on the underside of the handle will ensure the saw will stay secure on the tip of the Mr. LongArm pole (or any acme-threaded tip). I hope this reply answers your question. Jim the Owner. |

Question: | Where can you buy additional blades |
Answer: | at amazon |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | It's made in China. ("On Japanese machines!") |
Question: | Is this saw produced in Japan |
Answer: | On the saw and package I received, there is no way to tell, at least not that I can see. I just checked the packaging thoroughly, and there is no indication on the packaging, or on the saw, of where it was actually made. The packaging has the statement "Saw Blades Produced by Japanese Machinery and Technology", but it doesn't say "in Japan" anywhere, or in any country. |
