Question:	Can I use this to shave the bottom of my wooden doors to shorten the height
Answer:	Yes. Make sure the door is stable before using a good plane. Be careful when nearing the outer edges of the door to avoid tear out. Avoid this by clamping a 2X4 or scrap piece of wood at least the same thickness as the door on both ends.

Answer:	Good question, because that's not the correct size of this plane. It's 9 3/4" long and 2 3/4" wide and 5" tall.

You will need to sharpen the blade before using. Many complain about this but it's no big deal - if you are going to use a plane, you better know how to sharpen the blades.
Question:	Does this have a chipbreaker
Answer:	No. Not like my larger planes. But, with the micro-adjust brass screw, you can take very fine bites so it doesn't matter. I own about 8 to 10 planes and this one works as well as any other. I love this little one for quick or small jobs. Well built and steady.

Question:	Which are the differences vs 12-220 model
Answer:	Yes. In QC terms, I can't speak for every plane that they made in this series, but mine came "good to go" right out of the box. The sole was flat to a few mills. The sides were square to the sole. The back of the blade was flat and polished and the bevel only required a light honing to further polish it. I can not speak to the compatibility with Veritas, Lie-Nielson or Hock replacement blades. However, I would be surprised if there is an issue. I should note that I managed to nick the blade planing some 10-20 year old cherry. I managed to find a knot from hell. The Veritas powder-metalurgy blade might have stood up to that, but I can't say that for sure. I hope that helps.
Question:	Can this be used to make chamfer edges on oak? Was thinking of 15 degree edge for a nicer look
Answer:	You can buy spare premium blades for almost any hand plane from Hock tools. Search for Hock plane blades and you will find them. My woodworking teacher recommends the "01" versions because they are easier to sharpen - he doesn't think the more expensive 02 Hock blades are really worth it. But since 85% of the function of any hand plane comes from the blade, adding a nice blade to even a junky old plane can get you something that works very well.

Question:	Anyone know how this compares to the stanley g12-060? is it essentially the same plane? is one better than the other
Answer:	Mine worked out of the box. All I did was set the iron depth. I use it about every other day on mostly pine and red oak. Three months later and I haven't sharpened it yet. I've been woodworking for over 30 years and using hand planes almost from day one. On my bench, I have a vintage bailey pattern type number 4 set as a smoothing plane and this sits next to it as an all purpose bench plane. With S4S lumber, you rarely need a scrub plane - just something for flattening - getting material tried and true. This fits the bill straight out of the box.
Question:	Just got this. Confused. I have to open the mouth pretty much all the way to have room for the blade to extend below the base? Help plz
Answer:	I think it is. Others might not like it but I do. It does not have a chip breaker, which is something that is very helpful when dealing with certain types of woods and grain patterns. It struggles with those. I've used it, and was careful, and it does pretty well on pine and "whitewood" (whatever that is). Occasional problems with tear out but just planed in the opposite direction in those spots. When I started using it, I was struggling to get the edge on the iron squared off. The two adjustment nuts made it easy to adjust for the off square edge. Even if/when you graduate to other planes, it makes a good scrub plane. Sharpen and hone a cambered edge on the iron and you can take off a lot of material in a hurry.As far as doing jointing, again, not the best plane for that but take your time, use straight edges and squares to check progress frequently and you can accomplish what you want to do. If you look at jointer planes you'll see prices 6 - 8 times what this plane will cost.All in all, I'd call it a good buy for the money. Probably not a plane you'd want to use for everything but you can get the job done if you take your time. It is handy to have.

Answer:	You can purchase additional plane irons for it and grind them to re-purpose the plane. For instance, by rounding the outside edges of the plane iron you can make a very nice scrub plane out of it.

Answer:	14". I use it as a jointer plane, mostly on boards that are no longer than 24-30" long. Works perfectly. Haven't tried it on anything much longer than that. Don't know if it would make much of a difference.

Answer:	My Opinion: I like this Stanley smoothing plane, and it does not need an adjustable frog. You are correct, one piece is better. Keep the blade sharp, and enjoy using this plane.

Answer:	The number 4 is NOT a scrub plane. This number 4 is a smoothing plane. I do not know what your hand hewn oak looks like, so I cannot give a reasonable answer. Is your hand hewn oak dried? Have you flattened it? A scrub plane is designed to remove wood quickly, and tends to leaves texture marks on the wood. Look at the Stanley 40 or 40 1/2 for a scrub plane. Answer:	It has a resin handle. It is highly recommended that you get a machine shop to re machine bottom of the plane. And also if you are not familiar with how to correctly sharpen the blades have somebody do it who is.

Answer:	Yes. However, I suggest a plane with a Bailey style adjuster rather this plane. The two thumbscrews that control depth of cut are finicky. I would probably steer you toward a Stanley No. 5 with a longer sole. As with any reclaimed wood project; make sure your work is clear of nails and other embedded metal.

Question:	Where is made
Answer:	It's a decent block plane for smoothing out small areas or working end grain on butcher blocks. I mostly use it with a toothed iron (Ray Iles) for smoothing out skip-planed lumber for smaller areas where I'm not looking for a perfectly flat surface, just a smooth one. The lower angle does help in the finishing process and if you hold it at a 45 degree skew it does a fine job for those smaller areas where you don't want to use a larger plane. End grain is passable depending on the wood you are working with. Keep it sharp and it should do fine for the small projects or for small areas on larger projects. The iron that comes with it is good for knockabout use, but if you need it for more than the quick surfacing then something from IBC or LV might do you a bit better. I prefer this to the higher angle block plane for the finish role, but use higher angle ones in-between the rough planing and final finishing. A bit of wax on the sole helps no end in reducing friction, and a little goes a long way. I haven't used it for paint stripping or removing stains from old work, so can't speak to that use of it as I'm part of the better living through chemistry crowd.

Answer:	Adi Santoso Budiman,Yes I have the same plane, Most all planes have similar Dept adjuster screw #5 top back side, the lateral adjuster lever is the #5 Dept adjuster screw stem it moves side to side. First loosen #6 Lateral adjustment lock screw enough. Grab the #5 brass dept knob move it to the left and right; you will see the Sharp edge of the blade moves left and right. After desired adjustment is made tight #6 Lateral adjustment lock. The throat dept can be adjusted by loosening the #7 front cherry wood knob, move the #8 Brass lever at the base front of knob left or right until you have the throat opening to your desire gap. Tighten the Cherry wood knob back to hold adjustment. Note the adjustment knobs will not funtion if you do not loosen the appropriate screws the #4 lever cap srew is loosened to adjust Blade dept screw #5 and the #6 Locking screw loosens to adjust the lateral aspect of the blade. I finger tighten them so as I can make adjustments as I work. Do not under any circumstance use pliers or tools to tighten screws damage will be caused. If the wood is ruff and you want thick chip removal you will have to open the throat or mouth wide enoug to accommodate the larger chips. For thin shear shavings close mouth enough to allow the shaving and little more to pass. Practice ruff removal the finishing removal. Answer:	I use handplanes quite a bit and purchased one of these for a friend. It was made in Mexico and almost total garbage. The vintage Stanley low angle block planes are excellent tools but I would not purchase another of these of Mexican origin.

Answer:	I believe this may be an user error. In block planes, the blade goes in with the bevel UP. If the blade is inserted upside down, the problem stated here would occur. I rechecked my plane, and there's a full range of adjustment from zero opening to about a quarter inch--wider than ever necessary.

Answer:	The one that I bought was made in Mexico. It took a bit of work to flatten the sole and hone a razor sharp edge on the blade, but if you don't mind spending some time you can make it into a decent user plane. I have owned a couple of dozen Stanley 601/2's and sold all but a few on line. These have slightly heavier castings than the old USA built examples. There is a made in England version of this you can find used, and they are excellent once they are "tuned up" (flattened and sharpened).

Answer:	I had the same question. Looking at the photos in the review by 'Rugburner' in Feb 2018, the brass knobs are thin, the metal casting on some components is rather rough and the painted components suggest Chinese manufacturing...and the price, of course.

Answer:	The angle of the blade is fixed but the frog is adjustable, the depth of the blade is adjustable and the skew of the blade side to side is adjustable, slightly. It is easy to skew the blade when you lock it in as well. Normally, you want the blade as close to perfectly centered as possible. Paul Sellers actually recommends putting a slight convex on the iron's leading edge to prevent gouging at the sides when your iron is set deep.
Question:	Is this all cast iron, brass and steel, no Aluminum
Answer:	Bevel down. All standard angle planes are bevel down. Low angle planes, like the #62; are bevel up.
