12 best heat resistant paint colors

Heat-resistant paint is a type of specialty paint formulated to withstand high temperatures without deteriorating or losing its color. It is commonly used on surfaces that are exposed to heat sources like stoves, grills, engines, and industrial equipment. These paints are available in various colors to suit different aesthetic preferences. Here are some key points about heat-resistant paint colors:

  1. Color Options: Heat-resistant paints come in a variety of colors, similar to regular paints. Popular color choices include black, silver, gray, and white. However, you can find heat-resistant paints in other colors to match your specific needs and style.

  2. Heat Resistance: The primary feature of these paints is their ability to withstand high temperatures, typically ranging from 300°F (149°C) to 1200°F (649°C), depending on the product. The specific heat resistance may vary among different brands and types of heat-resistant paint.

  3. Applications: Heat-resistant paints are used on a wide range of surfaces, including metal, wood, ceramic, and some plastics. Common applications include painting exhaust systems, BBQ grills, engine components, fireplaces, and industrial equipment.

  4. Primer: When using heat-resistant paint, it's often recommended to use a compatible heat-resistant primer before applying the paint. This helps improve adhesion and overall performance.

  5. Surface Preparation: As with any paint job, proper surface preparation is essential for the paint to adhere effectively. Clean the surface, remove rust, and ensure it is free of contaminants before applying the heat-resistant paint.

  6. Curing: After applying heat-resistant paint, it usually requires a curing process. This involves allowing the painted surface to dry and cure at a specific temperature for a specified duration. Following the manufacturer's instructions for curing is crucial for achieving the best results.

  7. Durability: Heat-resistant paints are designed to be durable and long-lasting, even in high-heat environments. They can resist chipping, cracking, and fading due to prolonged exposure to heat.

  8. Safety: When using heat-resistant paint in enclosed spaces or on surfaces that come into contact with food, it's essential to choose a paint that is safe and non-toxic.

  9. Maintenance: To maintain the appearance and effectiveness of heat-resistant paint, periodic touch-ups may be necessary, especially in high-temperature areas where wear and tear are common.

In summary, heat-resistant paint colors are designed to offer both aesthetic appeal and protection in high-temperature environments. They come in various colors to suit your needs and can be applied to different surfaces, but proper surface preparation, primer, and curing are essential for the best results. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific heat-resistant paint you choose.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you use this on a wood burning fireplace firebox
Answer: Yes especially if it is an alloy box but if the box is made of wood you might want to seal and prime it with the high temperature primer first and make sure that there are no cracks before you go over it with the rust oleum high temp paint, for best results!
Question: Can I use this paint to spray the outside of a wood burning stove
Answer: I bought 6 cabs and did my gas grill inside and out. After it cured, I ran it for 30 minutes without food. I have a "holder" to grill fish so I am using that for all cooking so I and not cooking directly on the painted area. If after a month it holds up, I will do test cooking on it directly for the stray cats.
Question: Paint scratches off very easily 2 days later, even after curing at 200 and 400 degrees. Prepped with degreaser and 150 grit sandpaper. What could I have done wrong
Answer: You did not do anything wrong. This particular paint is not durable at all, but it withstands very very high temps. If you need high heat AND durability, then you need to look into some of the high heat Cerakote and Duracoat products, which are much more involved in applying than this is. I just answered another question on here, and in that answer I mentioned watching YouTube vids of ppl using this paint. In this vids, you'll see they are very delicate w the painted objects after cured when re-installing the object in a car engine compartment, for example. The ONLY thing this paint is good at is withstanding very high heat and being applied relatively easily and cheaply. Ps. I guess I should mention that this product is sometimes sold as an "enamel" but this particular paint is not truly what you'd call an enamel. Enamel implies high durability, and this does not have high durability.
Question: What temperatures are required to cure the paint multiple times at various temperatures in an oven? Will the final coating survive any contact with food
Answer: 24 hours AFTER painted - place in oven one hour @ 175 degrees. A second curing a few hours later is sometimes helpful.Any contact with food in either direction is bad. (part to food / food to part)Make sure wife is out of town.Cook 2 or 3 pizzas one after another to help disguise smell.

User questions & answers

Question: what is the finish? Flat, glossy
Answer: Flat finish has a pale color, glossy has a shine to color.
Question: is this good to paint my heater metal cover, its pealing
Answer: Yes , after you remove the pealing paint, spray on.
Question: Can I spray on the interior of an old charcoal grill that I'm trying to fix up
Answer: I needed to do the same with my old grill. Inside the top the old paint was flakening off. After scraping I sprayed on with the Krylon. The problem was that additional flakening continued to occur and hence more flaks falling on the food. Maybe if you took the grill top off and sanded it completely then all would be okay in using the Krylon.
Question: COLOR
Answer: It's a flat black. I used it on my fireplace insert and it dried looking like cast iron. Very nice.

Answer: Yes, as long as you apply Krylon Crystal Clear in light coats to avoid completely wetting the metal cast color coating to the point that it runs.
Question: Is it non toxic
Answer: It's enamal spray paint. I don't see how it could be considered non-toxic. I should not be used on skin.
Question: Is it the price for one can
Answer: Yes, that is the price for one can.
Question: Will it work over a base coat of another manufacturer's Metal Speck paint
Answer: 100% YES!!!! I use this over Rust-Oleums version of the base coat intended for this all the time, works great!!!!But just so you know, whoever said (Bob from KC) the base coats for this paint needs to be lacquer based is 3000% WRONG!!!! This is an enamel based paint and needs to used in conjunction with other enamels ONLY!!!!!

User questions & answers

Question: can I use it to paint my kitchen stove or what product would you recommend
Answer: that's why i purchased it, no other product lasted on my electric stove top. this product has not discolored since i put it on about 3 months ago. all other stove top paints did not work,, glad to help
Question: Could i spray this directly on the grill burners (not the holes of course) and the brackets that hold the burners to the fire box
Answer: My guess would be no, it's for high heat but probably not that high. I just spray the outside and legs after winter. It does a great job of covering the rust on my cheapo Walmart BBQ. Makes it look brand new every spring, this is my third season using it.
Question: Do you think I could spray my oven racks with this? Would it scratch off at the bottom
Answer: I used this for the exterior of my BBQ grill not the metal racks but the enclosure/ exterior body. I personally would not spray this on my oven racks for safety reasons.
Question: no lead
Answer: Here is a list of the contents; lead is not one of them: Acetone, Liquefied Petroleum Gas, Xylene, Ethylbenzene, Iron Manganese Oxide, Magnesium Silicate, Copper Chromite Black, Solvent Naptha, Light Aromatic, 1,2,4 Trimethylbenzene, and Carbon Black

User questions & answers

Question: Do you need to apply primer before using this, and if so which kind
Answer: No primer is needed, but the surface should be clean and free of the usual dirt, rust, oil, etc. A sand-blasted surface is ideal, but not really needed. DO keep in mind that brake fluid will destroy this paint just any like other paint, so expect some peeling around the bleeder. I wrap teflon tape around the threaded portion ONLY of the bleeder screws to reduce leaks of both air and fluid here.
Question: Anyone have experience using this on aluminum rear dif cover
Answer: we used it for brake calipers, my mechanic said something about spraying like plastic and some engine parts, I would say clean the aluminum real well and give it a shot it handles heat and sprays on metal, don't know if calipers are aluminum but might be
Question: Can I use this to spray the back of a brake pad
Answer: You can use any paint to paint the back of a brake pad...BUT...do not do it. Question answered. C'MON
Question: Do you need to heat cure this paint
Answer: No. Just make sure the surface to be painted is clean.

User questions & answers

Question: Will the paint be dishwasher safe
Answer: The paint is dishwasher safe ONLY AFTER you bake the piece in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. And, of course, refrain from using scouring pads or abrasive cleaners.
Question: Do you need to bake these to set it
Answer: Let the cups dry for 24 hours and then bake in the oven for 30 mins @ 150. When 30 mins are up turn off oven and leave them to cool completely inside.
Question: What is the difference between Pebeo 150 and Pebeo 160? Is one more for China/Porcelaine and the other for regular ceramics? or is it the finished look of the paint
Answer: The Pebeo 160 is designed more specifically for glass because it is transparent, while the Pebeo 150 is designed more towards porcelain or ceramics and is a semi-transparent to opaque paint. In my experience, the 150 is still pretty transparent depending on the color, but the 160 is even more so and will give the effect of stained glass when applied to a glass surface. I probably wouldn't use the 160 on porcelain simply because it's just too transparent.
Question: If I store the pens in a dry place with the caps on, how long will they last? Do they dry up
Answer: I have bought new sealed ones that were dried out, so I don't think the shelf life is very long. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

User questions & answers

Question: can u spray it
Answer: Yes, you can. I used seven parts of paint to one part mineral spirits. 30 psi at the spray gun. Wonderful results and much less expensive than spray cans.
Question: Is this a paint that can be easily removed from brushes with soap and water
Answer: You don't specify what type of Rust-Oleum paint you have. I find most rust-oleum paints are of an oil base and thus would require a mineral base thinner to clean brushes.
Question: can this be used on a stove hood
Answer: Yes. It is a good choice for stove hoods. It has a temp range up to 1200 degrees. If you get our stove hood that hot, you deserve to burn your house down and write a book how you did it.
Question: I will be painting a bbq smoker. how would you recommend to prep the surface before applying the paint
Answer: I would at least knock off the rust then wipe it down with thinner, mineral spirits or other solvent. The cleaner you get the metal, the better the paint will bond. I put it on my BBQ grill, I didn't put a lot of effort into prep and cleaning, just knocked off the loose rust and paint, it still looks pretty good.
