User questions & answers
Question: | is this unit wet proof |
Answer: | Thanks for leaving your question on our Led Security Light . The degrees of detection on the motion sensor is 180 degrees. |
Question: | I lost my directions right off the bat. How to set the light up for motion detection? On my old one I turned it on, then off for a 20 seconds then on |
Answer: | This is the process I go through with this kind of issue: 1. Verify power at the light and that all connections are good (this can be done through test equipment or by hooking up a known working electrical device such as another fixture). 2. Check the switch settings to see if it is still in test mode or something. 3. Adjust the placement of the sensor. 4. Check to see if it is pointed towards water (like a pool) or a white or shiny surface (this can mess up the ir sensor). 5. Contact vendor for any wierd conditions unique to the fixture (such as requiring that the ground wire be hooked up, a connected common wire, etc...)(I don't remember that there are any for this fixture but this part of my checklist). |
Question: | Will it work properly mounted to hang from the eaves rather than on a wall |
Answer: | Thanks for leaving your question on our motion sensor light outdoor. Please don't worry, the package included a use manual and easy to install it. |
Question: | Does this fixture work with LED light bulbs |
Answer: | I have the same problem . I think that is the way it is . try adjusting the sensitivity level or removing the lanterns . have to rethink priority for which lighting is more important . |

User questions & answers
Question: | The photo doesn't show any wires. Will there be wires |
Answer: | JL,Yes....though the photo doesn't show it, there are three wires included in this unit. One goes to the "hot" wire of the circuit, one goes to the neutral of the circuit, and one goes to the load or light you wish to activate. Pretty much any of these replacement sensors are configured this way, although, if you read my review, I do not recommend this one, because of a variety of issues. Rest assured though, for about 3 or 4 dollars more, you can obtain a Heath/Zenith unit, which will work much better. |
Question: | Does it come in white? Mycondo requires matching colors |
Answer: | Yes it does come in white, but I don't have the white version. You can get it through another vendor I think. Thanks! |
Question: | Does it work with regular led lights or only with dimmable leds |
Answer: | This sensor works similar to a simple on and off switch. If it is dark and motion is detected it turns on. After a set period of time it shuts off. The load is irrelevant as long as it does not exceed 300 watts. So yes, this will work with both dimmable and nondimmable LED bulbs however, you will not be able to dim the dimmable bulbs. |
Question: | has temperature compensation |
Answer: | It may have temp compensation but locating it over an opening that is venting a pool area is beyond what the design is set up for. Ron |
Question: | Does this come as pictured with the mounting stub or is it just the sensor? Thanks |
Answer: | It comes with the mounting stub as pictured. The mounting stub is the standard size for attaching to an electrical box (there are any number of options as to what size and style). I purchased this unit about a year ago and it has functioned flawlessly. |
Question: | Can I use two of these in paralled to work one light? I want to mount them on the corners of a garage and turn on one central light |
Answer: | My guess is you will burn them out. i tried this once with a water circulation pump (no light in the circuit) connected to a relay. A friend of mine had 3 of these in 3 different bathrooms in his house. the thought was as soon as someone walked into a bathroom, this device would activate a pump which would circulate hot water from the water tank to the fixtures (and hence the cold water in the line back to the tank for heating). We took precautions. first we made sure the power going to the 'hot' and neutral side of the sensors were from the same breaker (otherwise you could accidentally send 240 volts to the load if the sensors were on different sides of the line coming into your breaker panel). Second, we used a relay (mentioned earlier) as 'the load' because the draw (in amps) of the circulation pump was more than the sensor would allow as a pass though (you have to pay attention to the current these things will allow... watts, amps, miliamps - all need to know stuff! - we could have hooked it up directly, but it would have burned them out in short order, not to mention create a fire hazard). Finally, we ran all three of the load wires back to one junction box, tied them together with a wire nut (to complete the parallel connection you are talking about), and connected the load to the trigger side of the relay. we walked in each room and sure enough, the motion sensor engaged the relay, and the motor kicked on and the water circulated as designed. we thought we were home free. after about 2 months, we noticed one of the sensors was no longer activating the relay (and the pump did not run). we could eliminate the motor as it was completely separated from the electrical path. we discovered one of the motion sensors had burned out. replaced it, and all was well, and then a month later, a motion sensor from ANOTHER bathroom burned out. the relay hardly drew any power, so it couldn't be that. then we separated all of them and had three separate relays to engage the pump - never had another issue with burn-out. so what happened? we think if a person 'tripped' the motion sensor, it sent 110 volts to the load side of the other sensors (which were not activated by motion), and that 'back flow' of power messed up the electronics inside the sensors not in use. only explanation that made sense. so long story short, you could connect them in parallel, but i think they would burn out because of a 'back flow' between the devices. when we separated them with individual relays - no problems. e-circulation pump would have drawn more amps than the sensor allows to pass through we ranf the 'load' side of |
Question: | Can you disable the dusk to dawn setting |
Answer: | yes |
Question: | does it come on during the day when detecting motion or just after dark |
Answer: | If your application requires it to work during the day just put electrical tape over the photo sensor and it works 24/7. I used sensor to activate a fountain pump 24/7 |

User questions & answers
Question: | can I install 2 . one on either end of a long driveway. 3 way capable |
Answer: | These sensors will not work electrically like a 3 way switch. However, you can hook up more than one sensor to turn on a single light circuit. I have two sensors, one at the bottom of my entry stairs and one at the top. I wired them in parallel (black of both sensors get power from the same source, red from both sensors connect to the controlled light(s), and white of both sensors connected to a neutral. This does what I want. If I leave the house the upper sensor triggers and I have a lighted stairs. When I come home the bottom sensor triggers and I have a lighted stairs to the front door. As to timing, I set both sensors at the same time and sensitivity setting. Either sensor will bring on the light. Both senors need to be off to turn off the light. Perhaps this is what you meant by "3 way capable". Hope this helps - Ron |
Question: | MS180W in photo is totally sprayed flat white, even lens and pipe. What does it actually look like |
Answer: | it looks just like the picture, the lens is a cloudy white, and the rest of it is all white. |
Question: | Where is the unit screwed in to? Thanks |
Answer: | This is not intended to screw into a light socket as you seem to surmise. It is intended to be attached to a knockout hole in an electrical box (either indoor or outdoor). You will then attach its wires to power and the lights to be controlled within the box in accordance with the instructions in the package. If you are not comfortable with home wiring, then I suggest you have the unit installed by an electrician. Adjustment of these devices is tedious to ensure that detection of what you want to detect (presumably persons) is detected and what you do not want detected (leaves in the wind, animals, noise, etc.) is not detected. This involves orienting the fixture and adjusting the sensitivity; this is a two-person job with whatever ladder you need to reach the device as it is installed. You may find that you need more than one sensor to do the job; it's just not possible to have a reliable detection region that is wide and thin. And, it cannot detect around corners. Good luck. |
Question: | Hi. The installation diagram does not exist. Only a bad figure in the manual. May I have a clear installation instructions or diagram, please |
Answer: | I agree with you. I also did not find it very clear. My advice is to pay close attention to what to what is written not the diagram. It is very easy to install incorrectly otherwise. Also before you remove faulty sensor - not how the wires are attached and label them before removing. That way you can install replacement without instructions. Finally - new time delay switch is touchy. I would set it to middle position. Good luck. |

Question: | Will this light work with led par38 bulbs |
Answer: | Our inventory has an exp. date of 1/17. It is the new label and now named Spry Moisturizing Mouth Spray. Thanks, Green Earth Nutrition |
Question: | Does this one work for ceiling mounted position? Some of the wall mounted light does not allow motion detection rotates to detect horizontal direction |
Answer: | It is a pleasant moisturing liquid, like water, mild lemon flavor. I use about 4 sprays, 0ne in each corner of the mouth. It does not last very long but long enough until I fall asleep. Would plain water do the same?, most likely. I follow the spray with a Biotene gel because the spray runs down to the back of the throat and the effect is very transitory. If dry mouth wakes you up a quick spray solves the problem and I go back to sleep. No different from Biotene spray but a better taste. |
Question: | There is an extra red wire in this light. I know black goes to black and white to white, but to what do I connect this extra red wire |
Answer: | As a previous OASIS user, I can tell you that for me, RAIN provides for a much longer relief. I would imagine that each person would be different depending on the severity of dry mouth. Mine is due to radiation and chemo that all but destroyed my saliva glands. Also, I find that the more I have to speak, the more frequent I would need to respray, but in general, I spray only 2 to 3 times a day plus spraying before going to bed, gets me through the night. |

Question: | Can I use a lower watt bulb on it, eg. 60 w |
Answer: | Yep, that's what I'm using. |
Question: | I just got this in the mail and it tells me that the bulb is included...I don't see it anywhere, am I missing something |
Answer: | yes they can be mounted like on a ceiling. I have three mounted on the eaves at the corners of our house. You will have to adjust then angle of the lights and sensing unit. One is 10 years old, while I have had to replace both of the others. |
Question: | Hi, where can we buy replacement bulb |
Answer: | Since MS185W the install instructions state attach black and white wires, i would presume the red wire was not PRE assembled correctly. See step 4 of the assembly and wiringof motion detector MS180 for better explanation.https://secure.img1.wfrcdn.com/docresources/11219/1/13054.pdf . This is a guess. |
Question: | i want to install this facing my orchard tree......woule leaves movements trigger it on |
Answer: | The spray helps a lot. I take a lot of meds which cause dry mouth. When I'm chatting with friends my mouth gets very dry. I use this spray liberally annd it does help. I recommend it. |

Question: | Can you disable the dusk to dawn setting |
Answer: | It is 2.54mm pitch on the 3 header pins. Thanks |
Question: | does it come on during the day when detecting motion or just after dark |
Answer: | It's configured with a photo resistor so it doesn't trigger during daylight. In my application I want mine to trigger anytime someone enters the bathroom, so I jumped it out of circuit. If you hold the board with the potentiometers up there is a row of resistors just below them. The one on the right being the photo transistor. The the body is clear, so it can detect light, that makes it easy to spot. It's placement on the opposite side of the board than that of the sensor, kind of makes it worthless. |

Question: | Is it waterproof? Will rain damage it |
Answer: | As long as you install it correctly rain will not be a problem. I have two of them outside exposed to the rain, and they work fine. |
Question: | how far out does it detect realistically? I want to use it on flood lights and my roof is 25 feet high. How far horizontally, and how far vertically |
Answer: | I'm unable to tell you if it will work for you, but my driveway is 30' long and it will easily pick up any motion from that distance. You won't be disappointed in this unit. At least, I'm not. |
Question: | I cannot seem to get my manual override to work. I've tried the up-down-up-down within 2 seconds lots, but light will only stay on for 5 min tops |
Answer: | You have to set the timer to zero. |
Question: | As far as I understand, the bulb is not included. What kind would you recommend |
Answer: | the RAB STL360W is just the motion sensor no light socket or bulb. I used it in conjuction with a 500 watt halogen out door ficture to light up the driveway in front of the garage when someone or something approaches. Works great. I have addedd other lights and sensors some 250 watt and some LED of various wattage for different areas to cover all sides of my home along with a complete lorex video camera system for security. The cameras are capable of seeing in total darkness to a distnce of 90ft. with the lights and sensors there is nothing that moves day or night that doesn't get seen and recorded. The DVR can hold many many hours of HD video that is accessable from my smart phone any where around the world. When the sensors are triggered starting the video recording an alert with text and pictures is sent to my phone. works great would recomend it to any one interested in home security.either to anounce arrival of guest, protect a small child from falling in the pool , capture wild life activity around the house or video tape thives .Price was reasonable, instalation normal and very reliable thus far hopes this helps you out |

The SL-4144-AZ features 150˚ motion detection up to 30 ft. away. The lantern has clear glass and is constructed of metal with a weather resistant finish. Uses 1 medium base incandescent bulb (100W Max - Not Included). Features include DualBrite 2-Level Lighting.
Motion-activated lights are convenient and energy efficient, but they can be a little bulky and awkward to look at-in the driveway is fine, but you wouldn't want to put one on your porch. Unless it's one of Heath Zenith's porch lights, that is. These products give you the best of both worlds, combining motion-activation and traditional lantern design.
The SL-4144 is a four-sided New-England style lantern that includes a hidden motion-sensing device. This device will detect movement in a 150-degree radius up to a distance of 30 feet. You can set the light timer to one, five, or ten minutes, and the sensor itself may be adjusted to give you more or less sensitivity (so it doesn't light up every time a car drives by). The weather-resistant antique bronze finish means it's going to look good for a while, too.
This model also features "Dual Brite" lighting, which means you can use it for low-level accent lighting in addition to the full-light effect you get with motion-activation. An included timer allows you to set low-light mode for three hours, six hours, or dusk to dawn (an automatic photocell deactivates the unit in daylight).
If you're looking to save a little money on outdoor lighting by installing a motion-detector, this is a great option that won't look out of place. Requires one medium-base bulb of up to 100 watts (not included).--Josh Dettweiler

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it a motion detector or a dusk to dawn lamp post? Also, do you have any that are larger say twice the size |
Answer: | Sorry, I don't know. I would imagine if you can get a bulb that fits, it wouldn't matter the wattage. |
Question: | Can someone tell me the diameter of the mount/base of this lamp? Thank you |
Answer: | Look again - it's in there. I've owned two of this particular model and they do in fact come with the bulb - or are supposed to. If I remember correctly the bulb is wrapped in a type of foam wrapper and then is packaged in a small block of styrofoam. I don't have the original packaging from either light otherwise I'd be able to tell you for sure. Sorry. |
Question: | Can the sensor be turned or is it fixed straight ahead |
Answer: | You should be able to go to any hardware store and buy a replacement bulb. I haven't had to buy any replacement bulbs, but I have other lights that take this kind of bulb and I just go to my local hardware store. Or go to one of the big box stores. Take the bulb with you and I am sure they can help you locating one.. |
Question: | led |
Answer: | I have mine right underneath a huge tree and the leaves don't trigger it. |
