Answer:	No, I would not recommend it because the substrate do break down and deteriorate over time. The material is much lighter than gravel, so it's more prone to get siphoned. It's great for live plants, roots very well.

Answer:	absolutely not......you would never cap "sand". it has no nutrient retention whatsoever. When you layer substrates, IF you layer substrates, you would use something like sand to do the capping. Like, you can do sand over dirt (regular non-fertilized garden soil)......that is excellent. First of all, never spend 35 dollars on a bag of sand.....u can get a 50 lb bag of "play sand" at home depot for 3 bucks.....same damn thing. Sand is Sand. Ive learned over the years that most substrates are common soil aggragates that are repackaged and marked up up 700%. A great great soil is MVP turface. 50 bucks for a 50 pound bag. But in my honest opinion, the best substrate for a planted tank is dirt, withn a 1-2 inch layer of either sand or gravel over it. Never met a plant that wont thrive in old fashioned dirt. Of course the big name companies dont want u to know that though.

Answer:	Mine is laying on the bottom of my tank and i have never had it sitting upright. I can tell you it does pretty well sucking everything up. However, i usually have one spot in the tank, right underneath the filter where debris sits. When I need to water change I just make sure I get the debris out with a fish net. That seems to work pretty well. It is the best filter I have had so far (with a turtle that has killed 4 filters), just make sure to clean the motor fan with every water change or filter media change.

Answer:	Yes it can, in the center of the filter there a removeable plastic cage. I put a small Chemi Pure bag in it. But I didn't care for this filter and not cause it didn't work. But I was wanting something more as a skimmer type filter and I wasn't getting enough flow out this filter unit. But it did work, if your running this on a smaller tank say no 30 gal freshwater ok. I was running it on a 29 gal reef tank with lots of live rock and it couldn't push enough water around it. But it did filter the water good.

Answer:	I use this heater in a 5 gallon. I had to install it diagonal on the back wall so the heater is completely submerged. It’s more Watts then necessary but my other heater broke and I needed something fast, I had this heater purchased for warming 5 gallon buckets for water changes. BUT this heater is so spot on with the temperature that it has not over heated my water. It has held a perfect 78 degrees now for almost 2 years. You might want to check the depth of your tank and see if this heater will be too tall or too long if you install it diagonal. You could get away with a 20 watt. But depending on your tank width and depth this heater could work. I kept it because the temperature never fluctuates in my tank that probably holds 4 gallons of water after gravel.

Answer:	On the initial set up of my 150 gallon fish tank it brought the water temperature to 84° before I lowered the setting. It should be able heat and maintain 85-90 degrees. My heater is about 5° off on the settings mark , I use a thermometer to check water temperature. You did not specify if your bucket was going to be used inside or outside, or if it was going to be covered.

Answer:	The Tornado VFAN Sr. Vintage is made with metal, so it is not hard to clean. I simply use a damp cloth to wipe it off. I have not needed to take the grill off to clean the blades. The body is very solid, however I believe the blades are made of plastic, and are more fragile. It is the best floor fan I've ever owned, and goes perfectly with my 1940s house.

Answer:	We love it - a little smaller than I would have liked but I cannot find the larger version anywhere - anyway, yes it quiet on the low and medium settings - on high you can hear it but it is not noisy per se - hope this helps....
Question:	what is the highest watt bulb can you use for this fan
Answer:	There is a screw on the bottom - it looks easy enough to remove and open up - this is my second fan and the first one I had lasted 15 years!!!

Answer:	The blade diameter is 9.8". The Grill diameter (inside) is 11.7".
Question:	is it galvanized? or galvanized finish like the union model
Answer:	It moves the air very effectively, we use it to make the ac more even in the house. It may not actually reduce the temperature but it will feel more comfortable with the air moving and bringing in fresh air at night. At high speed it has a not unpleasant hum, at the lower speeds it's rather quiet, especially compared to other fans.
