Answer:	Not a steel joist, but if you get self tapping screws, they will go into a metal stud. The screws provided are wood screws.

Answer:	This is acceptable for fan support up to a 70 pound fan on both a 16" or 24" center.
Question:	Can this be used for an outside ceiling fan
Answer:	I would think so. I would guess that anywhere adequately protected such that you can have a fan would be more than adequate for the brace. Make sure your ceiling joists are spaced at a distance that works with the product. I don’t have any idea about the electrical side of things and if your wiring box needs to be weatheproofed in any way.
Question:	It says 2 knockouts, but how many Romex connectors? It shows only 1 in the picture
Answer:	There are a total of six knockouts--one at each of the four sides and two at the back (top). I believe any of these can be used with Romex with the addition of a bushing, but I am no electrician.

Answer:	Likely a typo... I just purchased this fan from Amazon and had it installed on my patio two weeks ago and it is definitely around 5 inches. In fact, the patio company wouldn't install the first fan - the low profile version of this Curva fan because of the pitch in the patio cover roof. Had to have one with at least 5" downrod. Fan is great.

Answer:	If you use it with the remote thae comes with the Emerson fan, it doesnt fit. Overall, it works on a sloped ceiling but make sure your fan component fit inside. We did not need it with our Emerson fan and we have a sloped ceiling.

Answer:	Warren it can be difficult to find the exact bracket for your fan as they are constantly changing the configuration. I had a nice fan I wanted to install, but it didn't have a mounting bracket. After searching a lot of places I decided to buy a Monte Carlo mounting kit . The kit included a new canopy and bracket. Try to find a kit that has a canopy that looks like the one you have and change out the canopy. The bracket in the kit will fit the new canopy.
