13 best philips light bulbs
Philips is a well-known brand in the field of lighting, and they offer a wide range of light bulbs, including halogen bulbs, which are commonly used for various lighting applications. Here is some information about Philips light bulbs:
Halogen Bulbs: Philips manufactures halogen bulbs, which are a type of incandescent bulb that uses a tungsten filament and a small amount of halogen gas to produce light. Halogen bulbs are known for their bright, white light and are often used in a variety of applications, including residential lighting, automotive headlights, and more.
Light Bulb Types: Philips produces a wide range of light bulb types to suit different lighting needs. These include incandescent bulbs, halogen bulbs, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), and light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs. LED bulbs, in particular, are known for their energy efficiency and long lifespan.
Lighting Applications: Philips light bulbs are designed for various lighting applications, including general room lighting, task lighting, accent lighting, outdoor lighting, and automotive lighting. They offer bulbs for both indoor and outdoor use.
Energy Efficiency: In response to the growing demand for energy-efficient lighting, Philips offers a range of energy-efficient options. LED bulbs, in particular, consume significantly less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and have a longer lifespan, making them cost-effective choices.
Color Temperature: Philips provides light bulbs in different color temperatures, ranging from warm white (yellowish) to cool white (bluish). This allows consumers to choose the lighting that best suits their preferences and needs.
Dimmable Bulbs: Many Philips bulbs are designed to be dimmable, allowing users to adjust the brightness of their lighting to create different atmospheres and save energy when full brightness is not required. Be sure to check bulb packaging for dimmability information.
Compatibility: Philips light bulbs are typically designed to work with standard sockets and fixtures, making them easy to install and replace in existing lighting setups.
Lifespan: The lifespan of Philips light bulbs can vary depending on the type and usage. LED bulbs, for example, can last for tens of thousands of hours, while halogen and incandescent bulbs have shorter lifespans.
Wattage Equivalency: Philips often provides wattage equivalency information on their LED bulbs. For example, a 10-watt LED bulb may be marketed as equivalent to a 60-watt incandescent bulb in terms of brightness.
Specialty Bulbs: Philips also offers specialty bulbs, including decorative bulbs, globe bulbs, floodlights, and more, to cater to specific lighting needs and aesthetics.
When choosing a Philips light bulb, it's important to consider factors such as the type of bulb, the desired brightness, color temperature, and any specific features required, such as dimmability. Philips is a reputable brand known for producing reliable lighting products suitable for various home improvement and lighting projects.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this bulb instant on |
Answer: | Yes, no warm up time and right back on if you turn it off and need it back on quickly |
Question: | Can these be used in an enclosed can light |
Answer: | To ensure proper performance and lifespan, we recommend this bulb not be used in a completely enclosed fixture. |
Question: | Can you explain the Medium Screw Base to me please |
Answer: | Regular lightbulb base for standard lamps. I know there are multiple "standards", but if it makes it clearer, these work in all my table lamps in the house plus all the overhead lights that don't need chandelier type bulbs or floodlights. So, basic lightbulb. Note: I also have the floodlight versions of these as well (same brand, light type, etc.). I really love them all and have been replacing every bulb in my house with the philips led daylight bulbs as the incandescents and cfls (I hate cfls) burn out. |
Question: | Soft white is a little bit yellow? or white light?? tia |
Answer: | Daylight bulbs are good for elderly folks as they can see better. Other than that, daylight must be used selectively, as it can be unflattering. Lighting is an art, and requires great amount of understanding of your requirements most people don’t know this until the wrong bulb is bought. A CRI OF 80+ is desired, and 90-95+ in certain situations, and your best bet is 2700K Soft White, 3000K Bright White for halogen matching applications, and Warm Glow for dimming applications. Soft White /Warm Glow is closest to standard incandescent |

Answer: | I just purchased the cool white and they are VERY bright. I would think that the warm light would be a little softer in light. |
Question: | To replace my kitchen can lights with these bulbs, should I go for the soft white over the ones that say daylight |
Answer: | Dear Amazon Customer, Our BR bulbs are backed by a 5 year warranty. Please reach out to us if you have any issues such as flickering with your lights. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the hue bridge have a limit as to how many bulbs camps work through it? I purchased the original starter kid and have added other bulbs. 6 total |
Answer: | The hue hub directly controls the bulbs (one hue hub can control 50? bulbs). Alexa can install a “skill” (an app/program) that communicates with the hue hub. The end result: You say “alexa turn on bedroom light", Alexa passes the request to the hue hub, hub turns the light on, Alexa gets a reply that the request was fulfilled and lights are on. You can control the hue hub directly with an app, or you can use an apple or google smart device to do the same thing that alexa does. |
Question: | Do these reconnect automatically if you turn the switch off and then back on |
Answer: | I have an Echo dot gen 3 and purchased these bulbs last month. Got them connected easily and they worked for 3 weeks and now Alexa cannot discover them. I tried to leave a review on my purchase, but the message says they’ve noticed unusual reviews on this product so they won’t let me leave one. Guess everyone is having the same issue. |
Question: | Will these lights work with a 1st generation hub |
Answer: | Just got these for Prime Day deal. You need a hub to take full advantage of voice control (Alexa/Google). Otherwise, you need to set them up via Bluetooth for Alexa which means the Echo device needs to be within 30 feet of the lights. Even my Echo Dot 4 feet away from the lights, the operation of the bulbs is hit and miss. Worked bout 85% of the time. The rest of the time the Echo said it couldn't communicate with the lights. You can also use the Philips Hue (Bluetooth) app. For the price, I really was not impressed with the functionality of them. Also purchased some LOHAS Smart LED bulbs (got 3 bulbs for the price of these 2) and those work great. The LOHAS are both Bluetooth and Wifi, with no hub needed at all. Cant really recommend the Philips as I don't want to purchase a hub. Will most likely return these as the LOHAS bulbs work way better. |
Question: | It says California residents. Will these bulbs work in Pennsylvania |
Answer: | I have one that came with my Echo Show 10, it paired with the Echo Show and the other Echos can control it no issue. But you have to have an Echo with Zigbee function - that means the older Echo Plus, or the new 4th gen Echo or an Echo Show 10. If not, you'll need to use Hue's hub and use the Hue skill to link to your Alexa network. Of the choices, I recommend the show, because it gives you visuals when installing. however most my smart devices are wifi using the Smart Life app and intergrate using that skill. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the CRI (color rendering index |
Answer: | The package does not give a CRI. It claims to be "daylight deluxe" with a brightness of 1600 lumens at 6500K. For more information, you might ask at Philips web site. |
Question: | Are these Instant On lamps |
Answer: | they are not, however they do illuminate quickly and the initial brightness is well over 50%. |
Question: | Will these bulbs fit in a ceiling fan 3 light fixture |
Answer: | If you had to choose between these and LED's in your ceiling fan, I would highly recommend these over LED any day. Reason: my sweetheart and I were recently out shopping for bulbs (ironically for the ceiling fan) and saw this "great" deal on LED's. "Oh yes, the wattage is low and they're such a bright light. We can save on electricity AND have a good light".... or so we thought. The first part is true, but as far as a "bright light", nothing could be further from the truth! The bulb itself was extremely bright and "white", but the light it emitted was a weird "dull". Every time I went in the upstairs hallway (which is another place we put them) I felt like I was entering some space ship, or operating room. The fluorescent lights are different. They are bright and "white" and the light it emits is also BRIGHT. They actually look as though you have a huge window lighting up the entire room. There is ONE downfall to this though. The bulbs are not exactly the prettiest. They do look very odd in open light fixtures; without a globe or some other sort of covering. I don't know if ALL LED bulbs do this, but I do know the ones we used DID and that was enough to deter me away from LED's. |
Question: | Is this one a bright white light or does it have some yellow in it |
Answer: | These bulbs are very bright white-almost blue. I personally hate them, they aren't very nice to look at and I would never put them inside my home. They are currently in my garage, and I don't even like that type of light in there. Too commercial/industrial. Also, they take some time to warm up to full brightness. Not exactly the best for my Central New York climate. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would these work without a dimmer switch? I would assume turning them on with a non-dimmer would just turn them on to full brightness |
Answer: | Not sure how efficient it is when it goes out under 3 months normal use. Had one of the 6 just go out🤷🏽♂️ |
Question: | Where are they manufactured |
Answer: | It shows >83+. The > sign means greater than. So they're saying the CRI is greater than 83. The + sign usually means "that number and above" which is redundant; assuming they really aren't trying to say that the CRI is greater than all numbers above 83 since you can't have a CRI greater than 100 since it represents a percentage). Nevertheless, I had overlooked the CRI rating and decided to cancel my order so I can look for similar lighting with a higher CRI rating. |
Question: | Mine won’t dim. They claim “Dimmable”. Do others have this problem |
Answer: | It's UL rated for damp locations so yes it'll be fine. Remember as in all electronics, no direct water spray. |
Question: | How much turndown in light output is expected when dimmed? Will it be as dim as a similar incandescent light |
Answer: | And I prefer 5000K. Anything below 4000K ("soft light" or "warm light") just looks like a dingy yellow on everything… like someone's smoked indoors for years. 6500K gets a bit too blue for me. After trying many different color temperatures, I have found 5000K to be the best for true colors; no dingy yellow or blue coloring. When I first switched from incandescent to LED lighting, 3000K to 4000K seemed so glaringly white. That's because I was used to seeing everything with that dingy yellow. But it didn't take long for me to adjust, and that's when I could see the yellow color in anything 4000K and below. 2700K is horrible for me. I like my whites to be WHITE (not yellow, not blue). I like my greens and reds and all the other colors to look true, as if I took them outside. So now I get 5000K for everywhere. I'd especially want that for my kitchen where I prefer it to look clean with the white looking white. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will those work with 220V (outside US |
Answer: | From electrical perspective it can work since in US the frequency is 60Hz so the voltage will be 110v. However, outside US the frequency is 50Hz and the voltage is 220V |
Question: | I bought an outdoor mounted porch light and ordered this product but the light calls for max 40W. Can I use these |
Answer: | The package states that these bulbs only consume 6W of power. (Fortunately for you, they are so efficient that they provide the EQUIVALENT of a 60W regular light bulb.) User questions & answers
Question: | What's the CRI rating of this bulb |
Answer: | The Color Rendering Index (CRI) of these bulbs is 85. |
Question: | Is this bulb compatible with garage door openers |
Answer: | The answer is yes. If a old fashioned light bulb would work, then these would work. |
Question: | what does "for non connected use only" mean |
Answer: | It means normal use circuits use only. Where as: '... connected ...' circuits are in effect those that are connected to the internet, as in controlled via an internet app, usually via a smartphone: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/what-is-connected-lighting-what-are-its-uses/ |
Question: | Can these be used in totally enclosed fixtures |
Answer: | My experience has been that LED bulbs always generate far less heat than incandescent bulbs. But LED bulbs do give off some heat. A 60 watt equivalent LED bulb, which is rated as to 60 watts, can safely be used to replace a 60 watt incandescent bulb, even in a totally enclosed fixture. But before going to a higher rated LED bulb, in a totally enclosed fixture, it is prudent to consult a licensed electrician. They will know where the limits of safety lay and can easily install a new light fixture for you, if that is required. This will also "keep you up to code" when you someday have the property up for sale. |
