Answer: | Just to expand slightly on prior answers, normally a residential service feed is 240 volts between the two incoming hot legs. There is also a neutral leg, which (hopefully) has zero potential with reference to ground. The voltage between either one of the hot legs and the neutral leg is 120 volts. The 120 volt circuits in your house are connected to one or the other of the two hot legs, and only one. An attempt is made to assign circuits to the two hot legs in a way that will roughly balance the load between them. The other side of a 120 volt circuit is connected to the neutral leg. There is additionally a safety ground run with the circuit, which also ties into the panel. Certain devices require more power (work product of current and voltage) than is practical to deliver using a 120 volt circuit. Common examples are your clothes dryer, and your electric stove. These devices are powered by both hot legs, with a difference in potential of 240 volts. This water heater is also such a device.STRONG BUT FRIENDLY WARNING: If you did not already know this, please don't make wiring this water heater your learning opportunity with electricity. Hire someone who knows how to do it right. Cutting corners, especially with higher currents and voltages, can lead to equipment damage, fire, and electrocution. Answer: | The pump runs at .22 Amps, and recommended supply current of 2.5 Amps. A standard 15 Amp wall socket is all that you need to plug it into. The .22 Amps the pump indicates maximum start up current, actual running current will be somewhat lower. Inrush current is always higher, when the motor has to start up, actual running current will be lower, example a 1 HP motor will have an inrush current of about 34 Amps, just until the motor reaching normal operating speed then it drops down to around 7.5 Amps, quite a bit lower, but the breaker needs to be able to handle the inrush currents. |

Answer: | Yes.As long as you have a return line running back to your water heater. You do not need a separate return line at every faucet. You need one return line. Follow your hot water pipe to the end (last branch takeoff), cut in a tee and run pex or copper. At the bottom of your tank style water heater there is a small, usually plastic valve. Remove that valve and screw in a 3/4" brass or stainless pipe nipple. Then install a tee inline with side outlet looking up and in the end of the tee put a brass drain valve to replace the crappy plastic one if applicable. The side connection on the tee you installed is where you will connect your return line you just ran. I did not notice if this pump had a built in check valve but if not you may want one to prevent water from flowing through both the hot water main and the hot water return to the faucet nearest the end. Water will follow the path of least resistance so the last branch on the main usually ends up being similar in distance to the water heater from either line. As a result water can back feed up the return line and will bring the cold water entering the tank with it. This is especially true when a second source of hot water is being used at the same time hence the need for a check valve. |

Answer: | This type of pump is designed to operate with zero flow, and it actually uses a little less electricity when it is not moving water. When the sensor valve closes, the pump does not move any water. When the sensor valve reopens, the pump moves water from the hot water line into the cold water line. |

Answer: | If you run this all the time you will likely increase your water heating costs significantly as you are turning your pipes into a big radiant heater. You can use the built in timer to only have it come on at set periods, but this will only work if you have a very fixed schedule. I attacked this another way. I plugged the unit into a TP-Link HS110 Smart plug that is Alexa controlled. I can just say turn on hot water pump or turn off hot water pump when I want to control it. But that was not good enough for me. I found that if this pump ran for four minutes it would give me hot water at the distant shower that I wanted, so I did the following. I wrote a routine to turn on the pump, wait four minutes and then turn it off. While I can run this by voice, I bought the new Amazon Alexa Button, they are about $14 for a two pack. The button is battery operated and communicates to another Alexa device. Just before I take a shower I push the button and within four minutes the water will be hot without having to run water. |

Answer: | There is slightly increased pressure on the hot line, which pushes water through the hot line and through the crossover valve when it is open, to let the hot line reach temperature at the valve. When a cold faucet is opened, most of the pressure is on the incoming side and that's where the water will come from. At first the cold line will have some of the warm returning water that was circulating through the valve, but very little will come from the downstream side where the valve is. One problem to be aware of is when using a shower head shut-off to soap up or whatever. Because the hot and cold are both open at the mixing valve the slightly higher pressure hot water will travel up the cold line and when the shower head is turned back on you will get hot water from both the hot and cold lines until the cold water gets back down the line to the shower head. It can be dangerously hot, and turning the faucet to cold will hot help until the cold water reaches the faucet. This can be alleviated by turning water off at the faucet instead of at the shower head, leaving a partial flow rather than completely shutting the shower head off, or manually shutting off the pump before showering. But the product should include a warning about shutting off a mixed temperature flow anywhere past the mixing valve. |

Answer: | The valve allows a slow flow of water back through the cold water line, enough to maintain the temperature at the faucet at about 100°F. If you let the hot water run, the temperature at the faucet goes over 100°F, and the valve shuts off the back flow through the cold water line. After the faucet is shut off, the water in the valve will cool to below 100°F, and the valve will crack open and allow some flow to keep the water warm. The valve does not bang open and shut. It opens more or less, as needed to keep the water warm at the faucet. It doesn't depend on the temperature set at the water heater, except that if the water is very hot, obviously it takes less to keep the water warm at the faucet. The valve accomplishes this automatically. |

Answer: | Hi Ray, I purchased the same expansion tank, and mounted it on my wall. The bracket I used was called Hydro Claw, by storm king. Its not cheap at about $35 to $40, but it is a well made, heavy duty bracket. Very nice looking install. Even my plumber buddies are very impressed! Highly recomend. Good luck, and stay safe. Answer: | I can give an answer of a qualified "yes". I bought the Watts system (pump & valve) in January 2017. In November 2019, so just under three years, the valve stopped working; it stayed closed, and would not open, so whether the pump was running or not, we did not have hot water in a short time as expected. I ordered a replacement valve from Amazon and after it was installed, the system was working again. I wasn't able to figure out how to dismantle the valve as mentioned by another reviewer, and tried CLR briefly but decided to just use vinegar. After I immersed the faulty valve in vinegar (5% acetic acid) for six to eight weeks, I was pleasantly surprised that the original valve had apparently come back to life! Now the valve is open when at room temperature, and is closed after running hot water (105° or so) through it for a few seconds. You can test a valve by plugging the outlet for the hot water tap with your finger and blowing into the "hot" end of the valve. Listen for air to exit the "cold" side of the valve when the valve is cool, no air exiting when the valve has been warmed up. I won't know for sure if this original valve will function until my replacement fails and I reinstall the original valve, but I have reason to be optimistic that I won't have to buy a new valve every two to three years. The valve I purchased from Amazon seems to work exactly as well as the original product. I rate it at four stars to acknowledge that if people have not yet purchased a system, they may want to look for a model that is more robust than the Watts product. |

Answer: | Yes, if the water is scalding, that's not supposed to happen. The valve should maintain the hot water at the faucet at about 100°F, which is comfortably warm, not scalding. Of course, when you let the hot water run, it will get hotter from there. It is true that in normal operation, there will be some warm water in the cold water supply, but cooler than 100°F, not scalding. If you get scalding water in the cold water from the faucet, something is wrong. Could be the valve, could be the installation. If it's worked in the past, then probably the valve has failed. If you just installed it, probably the installation is wrong. Here by "scalding," I mean too hot to put your hand into. |

Answer: | I have one in my RV also. I put a shutoff valve on the hose that goes to tank. Drain RV water. Shutoff pump and drain all pressure. close shutoff valve to pressure tank. remove pressure tank (keeping valve on hose size). (use sponge because some water may leak.). be sure to let pressure tank drain, than put something over opening of tank to keep mice out during winter. Winterize RV in normal method. Don't forget to drain a little water from the shutoff valve on hose that was attached to pressure tank until antifreeze runs out. |

Answer: | Yes, I believe it should. They are both the same 3/4" male thread and made for the same size potable water systems. I'd google the watts customer service number if you needed to find out for sure. But looking at their specs, the biggest difference between DET and PLT series appears to be the DET is made in the USA, while the PLT is made in Taiwan. There are a few internal design differences and max pressure differences, but nothing a normal homeowner would worry about for residential usage. As far as the psi goes, the pre-charge really means nothing. You should adjust that pressure to match the pressure on the house side of your regulator (cold/resting pressure, ie water heater not running and relieve the overpressure with a quick run of both faucets before testing). Usually should be around 30-50 psi, depending on who you talk to. Which is likely why Watts set it around 40. So check your house pressure and adjust accordingly. You might need to adjust your regulator, but either way make the expansion tank match the house pressure. |
