Answer:	If by 'use it' you mean 'make it drinkable', then no; the LifeStraw won't remove the salt that makes sea water unsafe to drink. So, it's probably not the ideal solution for your yacht's emergency lifeboat kit. If you're boating on freshwater rivers or in swamps, however, it should remove all the particulate crud in that water, making it drinkable.There are personal desalination/emergency hydration kits available (HTI's SeaPack, for example, is available on Amazon) that can be used to make sea water drinkable. Try a web or Amazon search for 'personal desalination' and you should be able to find them. You might also want to consider an emergency solar water still to produce purified, desalinated water.
Question:	will the water purification tablets kill protozoa including giardia and cryptosporidium
Answer:	There's actually no longer a shelf life listed. It was initially 3 years, then 5 years, and now Vestergaard of Switzerland (the manufacturer) has removed the notice completely. They were designed for use in African countries where the constant hot sun degrades any plastic, and the shelf life notice was created in case some users left them outside for years in the sun. Turns out it wasn't much of an issue to worry about, so the shelf life notice has been lifted. You can use it, store it, and use it again without problem. Just be sure it's totally dry inside before storing - in fact you can store it uncapped to be sure.

Here are some details (apparently the Lifestraw has a .2 micron microfilter):•A microfiltration filter has a pore size of approximately 0.1 micron (pore size ranges vary by filter from 0.05 micron to 5 micron);•Microfiltration has a very high effectiveness in removing protozoa (for example, Cryptosporidium, Giardia);•Microfiltration has a moderate effectiveness in removing bacteria (for example, Campylobacter, Salmonella, Shigella, E. coli);•Microfiltration is not effective in removing viruses (for example, Enteric, Hepatitis A, Norovirus, Rotavirus);•Microfiltration is not effective in removing chemicals.
Question:	I am looking to put these in my car in a Northern region where the temperature reaches -50 degrees F will these still work
Answer:	Salt and urea, along with various other substances your body is trying to eliminate, will remain in the filtered urine so it will still taste like pee (whatever that tastes like.) In a desperate survival situation, many people have resorted to drinking their urine. That is ok up to a point. As your dehydration increases, your urine will become increasingly concentrated (dark and even viscous.) It's best to drink urine early in your survival situation since it will be less concentrated and consequently less toxic. That way you are conserving what water you do have longer. Of course, most people will completely exhaust their water supply before they resort to drinking urine. However, drinking highly concentrated urine is probably worse than not drinking it at all. Also, urine is actually sterile inside your bladder but not as it flows through your urethra. Happy drinking!

Answer:	I called the company and they said unopened, they expire in Jan. 2017. When the bottles are opened, they expire in one year.The product has no expiration or mfg. dates on the bottles.

Research has shown that at 50 degrees F (10 degrees C), only 90 percent of Giardia cysts were inactivated after 30 minutes of exposure. If the water temperature is below 40 degrees F (4 degrees C), double the treatment time before drinking. It is best if water is at least 60 degrees F (16 degrees C) before treating. 1 Absolute Micron Filtering

Question:	can these be used on a water rowing machine
Answer:	DO NOT add chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite aka Clorox) to the tank - this is clearly stated on the WaterRower website. It will destroy the polycarbonate. From what I have researched these contain the same chemical disinfectant used in the tablets by WaterRower. It is sodium dichloroisocyanurate (aka troclosene sodium) and has about 60% available chlorine. I would use it at a 1-2 tablets per gallon concentration to start.

Question:	What are the dimensions of the bottle
Answer:	Yes. The pump does not remove chemicals; acids, oil, gasoline, ect. It is best used in waters that have biological agent contamination; bacteria,viruses, amoeba, particulate matter. It cannot be used in salt water.

Answer:	Only thing I can find is on the sawyer website is the lifetime warranty so if you read it the will fix/replace the filter for life as long as you dont modify the filter in anyway or open the housing or run juice or drink mixes thru it they will replace it the 100,000 gallon guarantee is to tell you you will have it for life you will lose it beforeit breaks I hope I was of help you can find all the tech data sheets on there website

Answer:	You are right about the 2 ounces being the filter only-that is what Sawyer advertises. The entire unit, inside the packaging is 4.8 ounces. I cannot take it out to weigh the items outside the packaging as I would need to destroy the container to get them out. I am guessing the plastic covering weighs less than an ounce so the entire unit probably weighs about 4 ounces.
Question:	Your literature says " removes contaminants from Fresh Water". What about algae covered ponds and swimming pools?s
Answer:	This filter is advertised as up to 100,000 gallons by Sawyer. When you begin to notice a decrease in flow, I recommend back flushing with potable water using the included syringe. I normally keep an ounce or two of 90% isopropyl alcohol to sanitize the drinking tip and any tubes I may use when setting up different systems. After use and before long term storage (especially if you filtered a lot of biologically questionable water), it is recommended to run a sanitizing solution of bleach/water (1tbsp plain, unscented bleach to 1 gallon water) through the filter then rinse very well with potable water, shake out vigorously and allow to air dry for several days before capping and placing into storage. An unopened filter should have indefinite shelf life unless it is subjected to extreme temperatures, hot or cold.
Question:	Does this filter viruses
Answer:	Sawyer's claim for the filter is that it removes 99.99999% of all harmful bacteria and 99.9999% of protozoa. Viruses are not included nor are other impurities mentioned. I have written to Sawyer to ask about tannin and brackish water and will reply again once I receive a return message. Question:	Are replacement filters available
Answer:	They ARE narrow. I want a wider size and according to the shoe size chart link, I wanted a 2E, not 4E Ultrawide, BUT Amazon Zappo's only stock the 'normal' Narrow and 4E Ultrawides. @WayneM, there is no 'half size larger' to select, apparently they don't pay attention to what people are buying and they don't bother to restock. I went ahead and ordered the D 'medium' which is actually very NARROW. The shoes came and they just fit me with the laces all the way stretched out. That said, I like them anyway - they're light and the sole is solid. The box only says size 10.5 and No width letter. And they don't show the width letter on the shoe's label either. Good shoe, not great sizing.So, Zappo's / Amazon has some work to do to avoid confusion and returns, just stock the medium wides, please. And start labeling the shoes better.

Answer:	I've been wearing them for walking for almost a year now. I started walking a few hundred yards a day last summer when I weighed 270 and by fall I was walking 6-8 miles a day! Answer:	YES. The ebola virus is 0.08 microns in size. Almost no filter will remove this. BUT the LifeStraw Family filters to 0.02 microns, so yes ebola would be filtered out. That is if it mutates to survive in our water supply, which is unknown.

Answer:	On the next packaging run, the shelf life comment will be removed. A short shelf life was stated on original packaging as the product was designed for the high temperatures and stress of the African environment. Stored in our homes here in the USA, there's nothing to cause the product to degrade or expire. Direct and constant sunlight will cause any plastic to eventually degrade, which is why the lifespan statement was developed. If you use it for camping and periodically use and store it, it's a good idea to flush it with tap water and allow it to dry before storing.

Question:	How easy is it to clean and how frequently does it need to be cleaned
Answer:	It can be attached to a liter soda bottle. The red protrusion from that end that can be seen in the manufacturers pics is the inlet covered with what appears to be a push fit plastic cap. They come in a sealed plastic bag that I don't want to open till I need the filter. It's probable that some sized hose will fit the inlet when the red plastic cap is removed.

Answer:	Your product should be alright. The water filter is a closed container with a carbon insert, and a cap on to protect the interior. Wipe it off and it is ready to go. The air purifier works by pulling air through the material inside. It is easily protected by the cardboard packaging. You can wipe the dust off, and install it. Should not cause any problem. I did not recall the rattles. I happened to have the last one I replaced since I have not taken it to discard at the local environmental center yet. I shook it and it did rattle. Sounded like some miniature metal balls a bit smaller than the BBs you use to shoot in your Red Rider bb gun when you had a GREAT Christmas years ago. Go ahead and install it and mark your calendar to replace it again in one year. This is about the 14th time I have gone through the process and I think they are very good products.

Answer:	I don't have any problem pouring water into glasses or bowls with the Brita. But there is one thing you need to beware of. The plastic top 'snaps down' in place. Sometimes it can come loose, and then a flood of water will pour out of the top, and over everything. To stop this from happening, I always put pressure on the top with one hand, when I am pouring water.

Answer:	The easy way to get the white part dislodged is this: Remove the filter. Fill the pitcher all the way up with warm water and a dab of dishwashing liquid. Now turn it upside down. The force of the water and gravity will dislodge the white part. The soap adds some extra slip to dislodge things and cleans the pitcher. I might be a 90 pound weakling but I'm still an engineer's daughter.

Answer:	Mythbusters tested this concept and busted it. Myth: You can turn low-end vodka into top-shelf vodka with six filtrations of a domestic charcoal water filter (i.e. Brita filters). They set up the experiment so that the vodka testers would each get 8 shots of vodka: 6 from the filtration stations (single filtered, twice filtered, etc...), 1 top-shelf vodka, and 1 unfiltered low-end shot. The tasters were asked to rank the shots. Anthony Dias Blue, vodka expert, executive director San Francisco World Spirits Competion: his ranking corresponded exactly to the number of filtrations, with the top-shelf vodka picked as the best. Anthony: "Passing a low-end vodka through a filter will make it better, but it won't make it a top-shelf vodka" They further analyzed the vodka samples and found that there was no difference in chemical composition between the filtered vodka and the unfiltered vodka. Conclusion: You're better off buying the top-shelf stuff than wasting a bunch of water filters.

The versatile Royal Berkey system is the ideal system for use at home with large families, travel, outdoor activities or during unexpected emergencies. This powerful system purifies both treated water and untreated raw water from such sources as remote lakes, streams, stagnant ponds and water supplies in foreign countries, where regulations may be substandard at best. Perfect for outdoor activities and a must in hostile environments where electricity, water pressure or treated water may not be available. The Royal Berkey system removes pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites entirely and extracts harmful chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, organic solvents, radon 222 and trihalomethanes. It also reduces nitrates, nitrites and unhealthy minerals such as lead and mercury. This system is so powerful it can remove red food coloring from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs. Virtually no other system can duplicate this performance. Constructed of highly polished 304 stainless steel, the system comes complete with two purification elements and utilizes the latest technological advances. This system has a storage capacity of about 3.25 gallons (12.3 liters) and when in use it stands 23" in height with a diameter of 9.5". The upper chamber nests within the lower chamber for transport and stands only 15.25" in height. Configured with two Black Berkey purification elements the system will purify up to 4 Gallons (15.1 liters) per hour. This system can be expanded to use four purification elements and is capable of purifying up to 8 Gallons (30.3 liters) per hour.

Answer:	To achieve optimum performance, we recommend that you replace the BB9-2 Black Water Filter every 6,000 gallons, depending on your water conditions.

Answer:	I bought these water filter because they were cheaper than the Berkey originals. I cannot perceive any difference between them and neither can my family. They install and function just like the Berkey originals.
