Answer:	If you added another type of filtration it might work solely as a beneficial bacteria holder. Otherwise, no, it is way too small for a 30 gallon. I would recommend something much larger.

Answer:	Hello emilyjune2010, I brought this a few months ago and it work very well for my fry. The way I clean mine was I took it to the bathtub and took them apart and lay it out the way you see it so you won't forget how to put it back, I have a hand shower head so I was able to wash each cubes with hot water to take off the nastyness that it had. The black and white filter can be wash as well and slap against the tub to make sure there nothing in between them. And them after you wash them well put it back together the way it was. I didn't have to change anything in mine. all the rocks and pebbles and whatever stuff it has is still in good condition. If you need anything change I would say it the filters ones, but other than that you should be fine. I have mine in a 10 gal tank that I had to purchase because this was to small for my 29 gal tank. I hope this is hopeful.

Answer:	It comes with sponges, fine floss layers and coarse layers. No need for air stone. It has an open pipe for the airlift. I was not impressed with the design. The bottom chamber draws water from the bottom of the filter and travels upward. And travels thru bio media first then filters. I prefer filtered first then bio media. Top chamber design is OK. For the price its a good deal for a small tank.
