The reason is the enter guts of the valve is plastic and the pull up piece that controls the shower comes loose and the company does not sell these parts, you have to buy the whole thing again. The faucet works well until the stem and plastic guts come loose. If you buy one go ahead and buy two, one for the spare parts.

Answer:	Pretty much any size tub, assuming you don't have a custom 7 footer. It would work, just wouldn't cover it all. For mine I shortened the ring slightly only to accommodate the original mounting spot of a previous models ring.
