User questions & answers

Question: I have a gen 1 ring alarm. are the new gen 2 components compatible with a gen 1 base station
Answer: This is resonant at about 927mhz. At 144-148 mhz the sar was at 3.78:1 and at 440 mhz it was at 3.01:1. I would not even connect a boafeng on low power. 73 KE0ARR
Question: What if you have a cat in the house
Answer: I put mine inside but in the high corner of the window and it works good wished I had got it years a go my scanner is very clear now
Question: Will this pick up my dog at night
Answer: Dave, yes digital signals are still radio waves, just superimposed on the carrier or FM signal. The trick is can your received decode the digital signals and that depends on your receiver or scanner capability. My SDS-200 is a software controller scanner and with the addon module it can follow digital trucked signals or other digital transmissions. Most public services are switching to digital since patrol cars have laptops and then piggy back their send/receive on the digital radio frequency so both voice and data can be sent over the same band.
Question: Pity that no battery inside echo show5, seems that i need to buy a ggmm es5 battery base help to make dot portable
Answer: this product listing is: Bingfu VHF UHF Car Truck Police Scanner Antena * the use of animals to manufacture the above listed product or causing harm to to aimals is unlikely. Near zero probabliity

User questions & answers

Question: Is this gen 2 sensor backwards compatible with gen 1 base
Answer: It's made of an ABS plastic which then painted to the color you select. I went with the" brushed gold" finish to better match the color of my door. They're also easy to replace/exchange. Simply grab both sides near the bottom and gently squeeze then lift up and away. Re-installiation is just the reverse. Start at the top and finish at the bottom. "Easy, Peazy"
Question: Will these work with the 1st Gen Ring Alarm system
Answer: I found and purchased a black cover from Amazon. In fact, I got the face plate before the peephole cam arrived. There are also holiday and seasonal covers available at Amazon.
Question: My garage has been known to get below 32 degrees. Will this operate and survive in cold
Answer: The faceplate color was "Black."
Question: How are these different from the first gen

User questions & answers

Question: Any way I can download and read the installation/ user manual before I place an order
Answer: Since the link provide doesn't link you to manual I will https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000813843-Download-the-Ring-Alarm-Security-Basics-Manual
Question: Can you add additional sensors after initial installation
Answer: Problem is you accept the risk of using Ring Alarms devices not Ring. If you get a false alarm you get the bill not ring. So there QC for overpriced sensors is bad logic. You should be able to use your sensor and accept it at your own risk. Z-Wave already has standard to help with this type of issue. I am bummed because I already have high quality hidden z-wave sensor all over my house and do not want to use these huge sensors RING provides. So yes if you already have a system stay with it and ask for a better price or check out https://www.amazon.com/abode-Essentials-Starter-Compatible-Google/dp/B0793N1V54. it actually will work with all of your equipment. good luck I hope Ring changes this policy
Question: Is it smash proof? (i.e. will still send an alarm activation if the keypad is smashed
Answer: Yes. The alarm signal is sent through the main hub. You can smash the keypad all you want and as long as the hub is safe then it will still send the alarm activation signal.
Question: How much is the service for professional monitoring
Answer: Professional monitoring service from Ring is $10/month or $100/annually. This includes camera recording for 60 days for as many cameras you put on your account and also included monitoring for smoke/fire and water if you buy those additional sensors. You still have to inform your local municipality about the monitoring service and possibly pay them either a one time or yearly registration fee (your township may call it something else) which is separate from the Ring services. Both the alarm system and cameras can be enabled to record when the alarm is tripped if you don't know about that by the way. They also incorporated the panic button into the Ring app on the iPhones now too. At $279 w/ the free Echo dot its a steal. I got mine when it was not on sale for $329.00 and no Echo dot.

User questions & answers

Question: If someone accidentally sets The panic button off is there a way to quickly silent it before the authorities arrive
Answer: 1st off you definitely need to replace any smoke detector that is 10 years old or older, they do have dates on them. 2nd it states that it CAN be used with older detectors. This is Rings answer to older detectors that don't connect to the Ring alarm.
Question: Does this panic button cause an alarm to sound/make an audible noise (when pushed for 3 seconds), if you are not subscribed to monitoring service
Answer: The Ring listener is listening for T3 (smoke) and T4 (carbon monoxide/CO) audio signals from the smoke/CO sensor. These are also known as 'Temporal 3' and 'Temporal 4' signals. Essentially the T3 (smoke) audio output is three on/off pulses of an audio tone, with a frequency of approximately 500 Hz. The T4 (CO) audio output is four of these on/on audio pulses. Like the original poster, I own several Kidde i12010SCO smoke/CO detectors and have not been able to get the Ring listener to respond to smoke/CO alarm testing events. I have confirmed with Kidde and with my ears that the Kidde i12010SCO audio output does have the T3 and T4 outputs. Still working to determine why the Ring listener doesn't respond to the audio outputs from my Kidde detector.
Question: I need a silent alarm button. It appears this is only a 'sound the alarm' panic button. Can it be programmed to notify the police, but remain silent
Answer: I can confirm that even if Ring Alarm is disarmed and the smoke detector or co listeners are triggered IT WILL CALL THE AUTHORITIES and you cannot cancel the dispatch. They work so well that I’ve had four fire trucks show up sirens blaring in the past year. I suggest doing what the other person has decided and change monitoring from professional to self in anticipation of such events to save yourself embarrassment or take the batteries out BUT don’t forget to put them back in or change your monitoring mode back.
Question: Can it be used as a silent alarm? Where no siren sounds
Answer: It is set to listen to the sound a smoke detector makes. It even states that the detector has to be recent or it doesn't work. So no, it can not be used for general audio!

User questions & answers

Question: Is this homekit compatible? it came up on a homekit water sensor search but i am pretty sure it is not homekit compatible
Answer: It fits my generator with room to spare. I store my generator inside when not in use and its just the right weight for that purpose.
Question: Could this be setup in user settings to give alerts under 75 degrees and above 90 degrees
Answer: debe usar su protector o estar bajo techo
Question: I have ring doorbells is this compatible with that
Answer: No, never leave a cover on a running generator. I did purchase a Gentent. Which you use on a running generator, to protect it from rain or snow!
Question: Re: placement for the freeze alarm, are u supposed to strap it to a pipe maybe, so you get alerted the water's freezing and it therefore might burst
Answer: Look at Gentent, I purchased 1 to protect generator from rain and snow while running.

Answer: If you have a Ring Alarm (1st Gen), all Ring Alarm (2nd Gen) sensors are dually compatible with the first generation of Ring Alarm, meaning you can switch out or add new sensors to your Base Station to fit your preferences.
Question: Sorry, typo.... does this do the same thing the eero does? thx
Answer: I have 2 door/ window sensors in my garage and it drops to 32 at times as well, I have had no issues with them other than the battery drains faster than the ones I have indoors I have replaced them once in 2 years I’ve had the system and the rest of my sensors are still with the original battery
Question: Does the 2nd gen extender provide stronger signal than the original? ie If u put it in the same spot as a gen1, does it extend the range farther
Answer: The new Ring Alarm (2nd Gen) Contact Sensors are smaller and more compact than Ring Alarm (1st Gen) Contact Sensors, and have been redesigned to fit even more spaces in the home. And, they now feature a wider max gap for use with even more windows and door frames. For even easier set up, we’ve added a new button on the front of the Contact Sensors that communicate directly with the Base Station. Question: Can I have multiple keypads for one system? I have multiple entrances
Answer: Yes it works perfectly with multiple keypads. I have a gen one at my front entrance as well as a gen 2 in my bedroom. The only con is when you arm and disarm your alarm the sounds it makes will not be in sync, other than that it works perfectly fine.
Question: if the alarm goes off from a breakin, is there siren/sound that comes from this keypad as well? or just the base station
Answer: The alarm tone is played from every camera device, the base station, as well as any linked keypads!
Question: Does the alarm mode light up from across room (like 1st Gen) or is it only motion activated
Answer: Still not updated as of 11/30/2020. The way the mode lights go dark after a few seconds is a big negative. Please start making 1st Gen keypads again.
Question: Does this work with the first generation base
Answer: Yes. All Ring Alarm (1st Gen) and Ring Alarm (2nd Gen) Devices are dually compatible with each other

User questions & answers

Question: Does panic button sound siren
Answer: I'm sorry the manufacturer didn't answer your question. Somehow they seemed to be too dumb to understand. I don't have a panic button, but I do have this siren. I am fairly sure that the panic button would activate the siren too. It really would make no sense for it not to. Personally, I really like the ring siren, but I would suggest a standalone system not linked to your alarm system for your panic button. There are truly terrifyingly loud sirens out there that do a much better job at intimidating and no alarm company would ever put one that loud into their system. You can build it yourself or hire an electrician to do it. In some areas there are independent contractors who specialize in alarms and they would be the best at designing you a "scary loud" panic button system.
Question: How loud is the alarm siren
Answer: Outdoor Siren emits a security siren (over 100dB at 1 meter) and flashing LED lights, alerting your neighbors and can help emergency responders locate your home.
Question: how is it mounted
Answer: There is a base plate that you screw to the wall. It slides into the plate. I suppose you could mount it to the ceiling too. It also has a switch on the back to sense of it’s been removed. I’m not sure if it would trigger the alarm or just send a tampered notification.

User questions & answers

Question: How many zones can you hook up to this system
Answer: You can wire up to 8 zones with one Retrofit Alarm Kit. If you have more than 8 zones, you can add additional Retrofit Alarm Kit devices to the same Ring Alarm. We encourage those who are interested in the Retrofit Alarm Kit to visit the following Ring.com help links which will be provided below: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032456492-Welcome-to-the-Ring-Retrofit-Alarm-Kit https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035340111
Question: Will this work if internet connection is cut or lost
Answer: No. It connects to the Ring base station which must be connected to the internet. If you subscribe to the premium monitoring service and your internet service is lost, the base station will attempt to connect to the internet via cell service (AT&T) until your local internet service comes back. If you're like I am where there is no AT&T tower nearby the cell service won't work.
Question: Will this work with an existing adt system with 2 motion sensors, 3 door sensors, all hard wired? can i get info. very interested. thanks
Answer: I could get ring to work with my existing door, motion and glass break sensors. However for the powered sensors (motion and glass break) I used the old alarm system to power them and Ring Retrofit to monitor them. Might not work with all sensors, but it worked with mine. It would be nice if the Ring Retrofit had and option to provide power, but at least the workaround was not that hard.
Question: If I have existing wired motion sensors, will this work
Answer: The Retrofit Alarm Kit is designed for two-wire zones (contact sensors). Four-wire zones are used for security devices that require a constant source of power (motion detectors). If you want to add any four-wire zones to the Retrofit Alarm Kit, you’ll need an appropriate power source, as this device is not designed to supply power to zones. Please keep in mind that your power source will also require a reliable battery backup. If the power goes out, the zone will no longer be monitored. Without a battery backup, the zone will appear open and will trigger a false alarm every time the power goes out. We strongly encourage those who are interested in the Retrofit Alarm Kit to visit the following Ring.com help site - https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032456492-Welcome-to-the-Ring-Retrofit-Alarm-Kit

Question: Will a gen 2 motion work with a gen 1 alarm base station
Answer: If you have a Ring Alarm (1st Gen), all Ring Alarm (2nd Gen) sensors are dually compatible with the first generation of Ring Alarm, meaning you can switch out or add new sensors to your Base Station to fit your preferences.
Question: Will this work with generation 1 base station
Answer: Yes. All Alarm sensors are dually compatible with both generations of Ring Alarm.
Question: Can it be used outside
Answer: No. The Ring Alarm Motion Detector is an indoor device, it is not certified for outside conditions.
Question: is there an option to use a plug-in power supply (instead of batteries that need to be replaced periodically
Answer: You could get a universal ac/dc adapter ( https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07NM1ZM3V ), turn it to 3V output voltage, cut the cable and connect it to the battery contacts of the sensor. Make sure you get the polarity correct, otherwise you might destroy the detector! I'm pretty certain that Ring will not honor any warranty in this case, so do this at your own risk.
