Answer:	I have no idea where the 5.5" comes from. The bracket for the handle is 3 ½" wide, and the handle itself is closer to 3". The height is around 1 ½ so their 1 3/8 would seem to be accurate. The handle is not for heavy duty lifting. I put it on my child's Toy Chest, and it's fine for lifting when the chest is empty (it still weighs a little, as it's all wood and steel brackets). But when it's totally full I would be hesitant to be lifting the chest using these handles. Still, it's pretty much what I was looking for, and I'm satisfied with the quality.
