Question:	Are the pulley wheels plastic or metal? It looks similar to a Harbor Freight bike hoist that I have. I am looking for something more heavy duty
Answer:	Hey G.Harder the pulley wheel's are plastic. But this model is rated for heavy object's. I have used mine to hold up my wheelbarrow to open up floor space and have not had any problem's. The only change I made was with the way the rope was secured in the block, instructions say to tie a knot at the end of the rope but I was not satisfied with that so I bought a couple cable clamp's at hardware for $.99 cent's and clamped the rope around one of the mounting bolt's and feel safe working under it now. I'm very happy and satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking.

Answer:	? This one is better than the Atwood one. I bought both. Although I prefer the rope that comes with the Atwood one, the Rad is heavier duty and better built in general.
Question:	How long are the straps? Would they go around a Yakima Skybox
Answer:	Each strap is 7 feet long, and the nylon line is very long. I didn't install it yet but it looks very similar to the bike rack that they sell and it is very strong and well made.
Question:	How tight to the ceiling can you get a kayak
Answer:	About 18" max. If you only use the hooksThe kit comes with straps that attach to the hook. With straps at least 24 inches to ceiling I have 8 foot garage ceiling. By attaching to straps -one end to loop other end to loop holding buckle I can get 6 feet between floor & bottom of kayak If you can't attach kayak to hooks only. You need to play with with harness straps to get max height.

Question:	I have rafters rather than joists so I don't have anything parallel to the floor. Can the pulley's be mounted on rafter angles
Answer:	I think you could do that. The way the roping through the pully's works you have one rope end that controls one pulley and the other controls the other pulley. Once you have your strap ends set at the same level you should be able to hoist up and down by pulling on both ropes with the same tension.
Question:	how far do the pulleys hang down from the ceiling
Answer:	Depends on how you mount it, but it's not even the pulleys that are the problem as much as the hooks—they're very long. I threw out all my measurements, but the pulleys can be cinched up to about 6-inches from the ceiling when directly mounted, meaning NOT using the provided brackets that would hang them lower. I have a 10' ceiling and 17' boats that needed to hang above the garage door when open. To squeeze them in, I directly mounted the pulleys to the ceiling, which required taking the pulleys apart, which aren't designed to come apart, so I had to drill out the riveted axles and replace them with clevis pins. For the traveling pulleys, I had to do the same, but so that I could set a pair of low profile shackles inside the provided bracket instead of using the long hooks (see my review). On top of that, I have the straps as tight around the boats as I can get them.
Question:	Anyone use anything to keep straps from spreading besides the string across the hooks? I want to avoid the horror stories of the kayak slipping out
Answer:	Yes. The bottom of my kayaks are very slick and I had one strap slip while lifting one day. I have 10-foot kayaks. My pulleys are 6-feet apart. I tied a 6-foot piece of string on the straps under the kayaks so they don’t spread. I’ve had no problem since.
Question:	Does a 2 pack mean enough mounts to hang one or two kayaks
Answer:	2 pack means you can hang two kayaks. I just received mine but haven't installed them yet. But did open the package and there 2 full sets to hang 2 kayaks. Steve

Question:	I have a high pitched sloped ceiling in my garage. It looks like this wont work and is only intended for flat ceilings
Answer:	In order to mount the ceiling brackets at different ceiling heights, you would need to measure the difference in ceiling heights and ensure the rope connecting the two points does not come in contact with the ceiling's edge. Any friction between the rope and edge of the ceiling will cause the rope to fray as well as make the lift more difficult to operate.
Question:	Could the ceiling mounts be attached to ceilings of two different heights? Front of garage has high ceiling, halfway in is a loft that is lower
Answer:	Can be adapted to some slope by different rope lengths. Best with flat ceiling.

Answer:	I would say you can get it to about 2-3 feet. The issue is that you need access to the locking pulley - it works like a shade/curtain pull. It unlocks when you pull straight down and locks when you hold it away at an angle. The closer the canoe gets to that pulley/locking mechanism the hard it is to lock/unlock.
Question:	How close can you get the canoe to the ceiling using this mount
Answer:	I used the 75 ft cable to connect an ipod to three separate speakers (inline setup) and did not detect any loss of audio quality. I'm sure you probably do lose some but it was unnoticeable to me.

Answer:	You can tie a knot in the straps and then for added security I used a bungee cord between them underneath the kayak. Put the straps on the hooks to decide where to tie the knot in the strap.works great!

Question:	What is the recommended spacing between the straps for a Yakima Rocketbox Pro
Answer:	I doubt anybody is going to have a specific recommendation in this. I think you should focus on how heavy your carrier is and if it is less than the max rating in this lift. Beyond that, you’ll just have to figure out the best layout for your carrier.
Question:	What's the distance from the ceiling to the top of the roof-top box when hoisted all the way up? Also, how far down can a roof-top box be lowered
Answer:	After adjusting spacing between pully brackets, and with a very taught rope and taught webbing, I was able to get it down to 11" between ceiling and cargo box. This is with the pro version, which allows a minimized distance. That leaves me with about 3" of clearance above my garage door--I wouldn't be comfortable with much less due to the difficulty of ensuring that minimum distance every time.
Question:	Does anyone know the diameter of the ropes that are included with this
Answer:	It’s approximately a 3/16 inch rope when it’s taught and around .225” loose.
Question:	What is the hole spacing on the ceiling bracket? Can it be mounted perpendicular on a standard 2" joist or has to be inline
Answer:	Not sure if you are asking: 1) what is the spacing between the two different brackets that mount to the ceiling or ... 2) what is the distance between the two mounting screw holes in each bracket So I'll try to answer both: 1) It didn't seem like there is a required spacing. I just measured the distance between the underside clamps on my car carrier and used that. I think it was 33 inches if I remember right. 2) I don't remember for sure but I think it is about 2-3 inches. Inline vs perpindicular: I installed mine inline but that is just what made sense for me in my garage. I think you could do either but because the spacing between the two mounting screw holes is 2-3 inches I would think if you want to mount perpendicular to the joists you would probably have to first mount a 2x4 perpendicular to the joists with some lag screws from the hardware store. Then mount the brackets to that. Of course if you know exactly where two doubled up joists are you wouldn't have to do that. Or if the joists are exposed you could mount a block of wood on the side of a joist to double it up that way. But a 2x4 would give you more freedom about where you mount the 2 brackets because you wouldn't have to use a joist.
