11 best outlet tester
An outlet tester, also known as a receptacle tester or plug tester, is a handheld device used to check the electrical wiring and safety of electrical outlets in homes or commercial buildings. These testers are valuable tools for homeowners, electricians, and maintenance personnel to ensure that electrical outlets are functioning correctly and are safe to use. Here are some key points about outlet testers:
Basic Functionality: Outlet testers are designed to quickly and easily check the wiring of an electrical outlet by plugging the tester into the outlet. They typically have a set of indicator lights or display that provides information about the outlet's condition.
Indicator Lights: Most outlet testers use a series of indicator lights to convey information. These lights may include labels such as "Correct," "Open Ground," "Reversed Polarity," and "Open Neutral," among others.
Correct Wiring: When all the lights on the tester light up or a specific "Correct" label is displayed, it indicates that the outlet is wired correctly and safe to use.
Open Ground: If the tester shows an "Open Ground" warning, it means that the electrical outlet is not properly grounded. Grounding is essential for electrical safety as it helps protect against electrical shocks.
Reversed Polarity: A "Reversed Polarity" warning indicates that the hot and neutral wires in the outlet are reversed, which can be a safety hazard.
Open Neutral: An "Open Neutral" warning suggests that there is a break in the neutral wire, which can also pose safety risks.
GFCI Testing: Some advanced outlet testers include a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) test button. Pressing this button can help determine if the outlet is GFCI protected and if the GFCI function is working correctly.
Safety: Outlet testers are an essential tool for identifying potential electrical hazards before they become a safety issue. They can prevent electrical accidents and fires by detecting faulty wiring.
Portability: Outlet testers are small, handheld devices, making them convenient for use in various locations around the home or workplace.
Cost-Effective: They are relatively inexpensive tools that can save you money by identifying electrical issues early, preventing the need for costly repairs or accidents.
In summary, an outlet tester is a valuable tool for checking the electrical safety of outlets. It provides quick feedback on the condition of an outlet's wiring, helping to prevent electrical accidents and ensuring the safe use of electrical devices.

Answer: | Not that I know of or have ever seen. |
Question: | Instructions in package says "all appliances on circuit should be unplugged before testing to reduce erroneous testing." Isn't that difficult |
Answer: | Hello there. I have purchased 2 Omni IIe controllers: One 4 years ago, the "whole package" that has all the items in the picture... of course for more than $1.000 USD... Recently I was searching for the same product, but unfortunately I could'nt found it... I had to buy the item you've in the picture, but for about $750 it only includes the controller and the cabinet. I have to search in Amazon for the other items, like the battery, the phone switch, the console, etc, and I had to pay extra for those. Hope this helps. Juan |

User questions & answers
Question: | The volt sensor is so sensitive it goes off near an outlet. Is that normal? I thought I could stick it in the slots to find out which side was hot |
Answer: | Yes, you can insert the tip of this tool into the slots of an outlet then press the button and it will tell you which side is hot. You can also use it to test the wires in a circuit if you are unsure which is the hot lead. If the wires are connected to the switch, outlet etc touch the tip to the bared wire at the contact point and it will tell you if it is hot. You can also just touch the insulation covering the wires to get a reading too. Try to keep the wires you are testing separted by a few inches if possible, this will help prevent any false reading you might get by voltage seepage from the insulated hot lead. If you didn't know - the hot wire in a circuit is usually black, red or maybe some other dark color, the white is the neutral or return and the green is the ground. Start by testing the dark wire first but as a precaution be sure the check the white also - someone may have wired in incorrectly and that could be a hot lead. I've had - well had, until I left it someplace - one of these for years and it's a good useful tool. So I gotta get another one now, and I'm getting one of these. |
Question: | Can this be used as a circuit breaker finder |
Answer: | You could use them to find a circuit breaker, if you had someone to watch the tester, while you went through your panel turning off and on your breakers untill you found the one that controlled that circuit. If you didn't want to do that then you will need to buy an circuit breaker finder kit. |
Question: | does this tester work on low-voltage landscape lighting wires |
Answer: | The non contact voltage tester will. |
Question: | can it tell the diffrence between 220v and 110v |
Answer: | If you can’t tell the difference 110v and 220v .You Dont Need A Meter. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this tester read a European style 230v single phase plug (230v on one leg) with proper adapter |
Answer: | I can't answer this question, some adapters for European style plugs do not work with some of our 120v outlets, so I would reccomend you ask a electrician who has a working knowledge of the European plugs, there are electrical books that deal with these situations check your local book store or contact KAIWEETS they may have a answer. sorry I can't be more helpful. |
Question: | In what condition, the outlet tester and the non contact voltage tester could be uesd together |
Answer: | If you wanna know if there is a voltage in the wire and the concrete wiring fault, then you can use the kit. The receptacal tester will tell you if the hot, neutral, and ground are connected to the correct terminals on the receptacle. the non contact voltage tester only detects whether or not there is voltage in a wire. |
Question: | Can I use the circuit tester of this kit to check for Short in the circuit by plugging this into outlet |
Answer: | I don't believe this will help for a short. If the circuit is active/energized it will tell you the line voltage and if the plug is wired correctly and if the plug is grounded. Non-contact tester will let you know if the circuit is energized. If this does not help, hire an electrical contractor. Have a blessed day. |
Question: | Does the outlet tester fall off easily? Will the three indicators cross light |
Answer: | no, they are independent. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this test through the wire insulation |
Answer: | Yes. You can tell if it is an energized cord/circuit. |
Question: | Why does my tester beep 6 times, flashes red then turns off |
Answer: | i never noticed mine beeping and flashing but it alway's shut's down unless you hold the power button down for a few second's. |
Question: | Hi what does a slow beep with a red light indicate it's not rapid. Thanks Tom |
Answer: | Klein non-contact sensors are known for being misleading, by blinking red and beeping even when there is no electrical current nearby. It does blink red and beep fast (and continuously) at 110v power and is pretty good for that. The slow blinks/beeps, even when touching wood or the edge of a kitchen counter, mean nothing. Some say it's due to very low voltage or 'phantom voltage' but this doesn't always seem to be the case. |
Question: | This pen tester make any sounds when it detects power |
Answer: | Yes it make a sound and flash red, but make sur than the tester is on green to be sure to test 120 volt because you have two options bleu for low voltage and green for 120 volts! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the product bring the two items in the picture |
Answer: | Hi, you need to hold the black button down when you are next to the socket. You will get a continuous beep and flash from the unit. |
Question: | what batteries do these use |
Answer: | I’m going to guess that it is not. Because it is total junk |
Question: | How do i turn on the noncontact tester? i get a beep and flashing light when i press the button, but nothing when i put it near a good outlet |
Answer: | Yes. It has a strap with a round magnet that works very well to hold it. Of course, one needs a piece of steel nearby to stick it to. I have found the magnet most useful. Of special note is when I accidently left it on the roof of the car when trying to carry too much and open the door at the same time. Although I lost a folder of papers, the multi-tester was still there after 10 miles @ 45mph. |
Question: | is this made in USA |
Answer: | Should read “1” when turned to ohms. Touch leads together and should read “0.00” or nearly so (depending on how clean your leads are). Should read “000” when initially set to test voltage. Before concluding that your unit is defective, first check that your leads are firmly seated in their ports. If you still get no reading, and you are sure your battery is good, (check user’s guide for indicator icon), then maybe consider your unit is defective? |

User questions & answers
Question: | are there instructions for use of this product |
Answer: | There are on the package. You can also watch youtube videos about it or check with manufacturer for further information |
Question: | The outlets I believe to be fine show red amber amber. Correct claims is no light amber amber. Is mine faulty |
Answer: | Having all three lights illuminated is not a test result that appears on the legend on the tester. But we do think it is possible to have all three lights illuminated. Having all three lights illuminated may be the result of having two faults: 1) the outlet does not have a ground connection and 2) the voltage between the hot and the neutral is above 150V. It should be possible for you to verify both of these conditions. If you can do this, please let us know the results. |
