13 best led dimmer flickers
LED dimmer flickering can be a common issue when using dimmer switches with LED light fixtures. This problem arises due to the interaction between the dimmer switch and the LED bulbs. Here are some key points to consider:
Compatibility: Not all LED bulbs work well with all dimmer switches. It's important to choose LED bulbs that are compatible with the specific dimmer switch you're using. Some LED bulbs are labeled as "dimmable," indicating that they are designed to work with dimmer switches.
Triac Dimmer Compatibility: Traditional incandescent dimmer switches use a technology called "triac dimming." Some LEDs are not compatible with this type of dimmer, leading to flickering. It's advisable to use an LED-specific dimmer switch that is designed for use with LED bulbs.
Minimum Load: Some dimmer switches have a minimum load requirement, meaning they need a certain amount of power to function properly. If you have only a few LEDs connected to the dimmer, it might not meet this requirement, causing flickering. In such cases, you can try using a dummy load to meet the minimum load requirement.
LED Driver Compatibility: LED bulbs have drivers that regulate the current supplied to the LEDs. Compatibility issues between the LED driver and the dimmer can result in flickering. Ensure that the LED driver is compatible with the dimmer switch.
Wiring Issues: Poor wiring connections can also lead to flickering. Ensure that the wiring is done correctly and securely.
Multi-Gang Dimmers: If you have multiple dimmer switches in the same gang box, interference between them can cause flickering. Using dimmers specifically designed for multi-gang installations can help mitigate this issue.
Dimmer Adjustment: Some dimmers have adjustable settings for the minimum and maximum brightness levels. Adjusting these settings can sometimes reduce or eliminate flickering.
LED Quality: The quality of the LED bulbs can also affect flickering. Higher-quality LEDs often have better dimming performance.
Voltage Compatibility: Ensure that the dimmer switch is compatible with the voltage in your electrical system.
LED Load: If you have a mix of LED and incandescent bulbs on the same circuit, the difference in load can cause flickering. Consider switching all bulbs to LEDs or using a hybrid dimmer that can handle both types of bulbs.
In summary, LED dimmer flickering can be a frustrating issue, but it's usually solvable by ensuring compatibility between the dimmer switch and LED bulbs, as well as addressing other potential issues such as wiring problems or load requirements. It's essential to choose the right components and troubleshoot systematically to resolve the problem effectively.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the ground have to be used? I am working with a ungrounded led circuit in a custom cabinet; and am looking for a low profile dimmer switch |
Answer: | Yes it works just fine. All you need is a second switch that is SPDT and you wire the 'pole' sourcing from your + and the two 'pole' locations feed one to the dimmers red and the other to the 3way sw 1/p terminal. American Tech makes one - model AH-SWI-02-x where the X is 5 for black and 1 for white. wiring diagrams is at this link on the manufactures web site. https://www.atcomp.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/12V-3WAY-DIM.pdf Hope that helps folks |
Question: | Is this a PVM dimmer |
Answer: | A) If you have an existing switch: The two wires on the old switch are not really positive and negative. One is +12 volt power from the battery, and the other is going to the light. If you look inside the wall, you will likely find that each of the two coloured wires is paired with a white wire and those two white wires are connected together. Those white wires are the negative, and the place to connect the negative (neutral) wire from the new dimmer switch. After disconnecting the old switch, use a volt meter or a test light to determine which of the coloured wires is live - that will be the one coming from the battery. Connect that to the +12 volt side of the new dimmer. Connect the other coloured wire to the load side of the dimmer. B) If there is no existing switch, just a light: Disconnect the positive wire from the light and connect it to the +12v wire of the dimmer. Connect the negative wire of the dimmer to the existing negative wires of the light. Connect the load wire of the dimmer to the open positive wire of the light. |
Question: | My dimmer has a "3-way sw i/p" on the back... what is it & how do i wire it? does it bypass the on/off switch allowing dimming of the 3way input |
Answer: | No se a que se refiere con certificado de calibración. El aparato funciona bien. Sus lecturas son consistentes. |
Question: | My light has negative and positive wire only. This light dimmer has a neutral though. How would i wire my light? Thx in advance |
Answer: | Hello Robert, the version (uni-t $ 34.99) sells UNI-T directly ... Signstek is not a version is the name of the seller. The Uni-t Ut139C is an excellent diagnostic tool I recommend it.Thanks for asking. |

User questions & answers
Question: | which cover plate works with the Zen |
Answer: | It is a single switch, it can be used to replace any dimmer switch (using a neutral wire). If you mean can it be used on a circuit with only one switch, yes it can. |
Question: | What does it mean by "adjustable led indicator (now straight from the switch paddle)". does the switch have any led indicators |
Answer: | The switch that came across with this question is a "Dimmer" switch. Do not use a dimmer switch for this application. To answer your question - yes you can use a smart switch to control a fan, but as i just mentioned, not this particular one. I have quite a few in my buildings that control everything from exhaust fans to damper motors as well as lighting and they work fine. My suggestion to control a bathroom fan would be https://www.amazon.com/GE-Repeater-Extender-SmartThings-14291/dp/B06XTKQTTV/ref=sr_1_12?keywords=smart%2Bswitch&qid=1566440598&s=gateway&sr=8-12&th=1 The GE Enbrighten Smart Fan switch. Designed for your application. Using the Zooz switch may work at first, but it will soon fail as the impedance feedback from the fan motor will burn it out. The Zooz is a fine product, but match the product to the application. |
Question: | Can I use this switch on a single switch |
Answer: | Your question could mean a couple different things. People often tie the "negative" or "return" black wire to ground, although that is generally bad practice. For sure you have to use the return wire or you otherwise don't have a circuit. Chances are high this does not have an independent ground built in, which is why we'll be seeing a lot more fires in the future. |
Question: | Can this be used to control on/off of a bathroom exhaust fan |
Answer: | this is a PWM dimmer. work's great for led's |

PERFECT FOR SMART BULBS
If you've ever tried connecting a regular dimmer to your smart bulbs, you've learned the hard way that Hue or Sylvania bulbs can't be dimmed like regular lights. And if you ever turn the lights off from the switch, your smart bulbs become unusable until you manually restore power to them. We thought of that when adding remote control to the Zooz switches.
You'll be able to turn the lights on or off AND dim them straight from the wall switch without cutting power to the bulb! Just disable manual control by tapping the paddle 10 times quickly and program simple automations between the switch and your bulbs. You'll need both the bulbs and the dimmer to be added to your smart hub first. Get in touch for step-by-step instructions and wiring tips.
PATENTED 3-WAY / 4-WAY SOLUTION
This dimmer works in>Connect this dimmer with regular on/off switches (don't use other dimmers or smart switches) in multi-switch installations.
Automate your multi-point control setups without rewiring the other boxes. Simply add Zooz to the box with direct connection to the breaker (line) and neutral. For even more flexibility, use it in 4-ways and 5-ways where load and line are separated.
VIRTUAL 3-WAY: You can also program 2 Zooz smart switches to control the same light without traveler wires. Just connect one of them to control the light directly and power the second switch with line and neutral. Then link the switches using smart rules in your Z-Wave hub.

Let's Build Smarter Z-Wave Together!
Why You Need a Hub
There's no way to program and manage a reliable smart home without a hub today. Your WiFi router can only handle a handful of devices so you'll quickly experience delays and outages. Hubs bring all of your products together, whether they're WiFi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, or ZigBee, and connect them so you can build a truly intelligent ecosystem.
The S2 Dimmer Switch works great with most Z-Wave systems. Here are the most popular: Fibaro Home Center Lite, HomeSeer, Home Assistant, Hubitat, Samsung SmartThings Hub (Custom device handler is needed for advanced settings - go to Zooz site for instructions), Vera, Wink.
Will it work with Alexa? Echo or Echo Plus are not Z-Wave controllers so you will need a compatible Z-Wave hub to control the dimmer with Alexa.
Alexa-compatible Z-Wave hubs include Fibaro Home Center Lite, Hubitat, SmartThings, Wink, and Vera.

User questions & answers
Question: | can you cut off the ends for a direct wire instead of the quick plugs you see attached |
Answer: | As long as you keep the amp load within its specs it will work fine. I use them on 5050 strip lights in the house. |
Question: | how many watts can i run thru your dimmer? I'm planning on using in on a 16' string of 600 leds |
Answer: | It isn't a motion sensor, rather a dimmer. But as a dimmer it should work as above provided that you aren't exceeding its current capabilities. Guessing here, 3W per foot x 32ft is about 100W. So probably not, since they handle up to 24W each. |
Question: | Is it compatible with 5730 led |
Answer: | Standard Decora style. |
Question: | Will this motion sensor work when using a dc splitter? setup = 3a dc adapter > motion detector > dc 2x splitter > one 16 foot led strip on each split |
Answer: | Yes there are three indicators available by pressing the bottom of the panel left, down, or right |

Question: | I installed these dimmers with LEDP3120WH - 120V Direct LED Puck Light Kit. When I turn the power back on the lights pulse/flicker constantly. Ideas |
Answer: | I am posting what my husband said as he installed he dimmer. It depends on the "kit" and the light bulbs used. I noticed some LED bulbs (or those "curly" bulbs) do not work with dimmers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is anyone using this with an LED and if so, for how long and how is it working? Thanks |
Answer: | I'm using this with two 12.5W Soraa High-CRI "Vivid" series LED PAR30 4000K bulbs (total controlled load: 25W) and it is the finest dimmer switch I've ever used. With the "Advanced mode" custom programming (Technical document: www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/048459.pdf) to adjust the "low trim" (dimmest point) I can get these bulbs to be on and stable at only |
Question: | Can this handle dimming LED lights all the way down so they are actually dim, like the incandescents? Yes, I have an LED light bulb that is dimmable |
Answer: | I have the Wafer 6 in. White Integrated LED Recessed Kit that Home Depot sells. They say they can go down to 10%.. I had another switch in previously that the lights wouldn't dim down as far and would turn off randomly when dimmed down all the way. If you use the adjustment feature in this switch it seems like they go down to that no problem. I've been running them for a day and no flickering or turning off. If anything changes I'll leave an updated comment or update this answer. Two factors you'll need to look at: 1) what is the LED bulb rated to go down to 2) Is this dimmer compatible? If your LED bulb says it can do it try many different dimmers until one works :) |
Question: | The max brightness seems lower than when I had a non-digital dimmer. How do I adjust? I see instructions for the lower dim range but not the max |
Answer: | Please see Lutron's Application Note #459. All of these settings are NOT listed in the manual that came with your switch. www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/048459.pdf You want to adjust IL7, the high-end trim.IL1: Preset Light Level (last setting or set permanently)IL2: Fade ON Time (0.75 to 15.0 seconds)IL3: Fade OFF Time (0.75 to 15.0 seconds)IL4: Delayed Fade to OFF (time to leave the room - 10 to 70 seconds)IL5: Enable/Disable Indicator Lights (LED dots off or on)IL6: Low-End Trim (minimum brightness)IL7: High-End Trim (maximum brightness) |
Question: | how much power do led indicator lights draw |
Answer: | Approximately 0.02 Watts (2 cents per year at $0.10/kWh) if they did the job right of designing it (switching converter,) and 0.25 Watts (20 cents per year at $0.10/kWh) if they took the lazy way out (simple resistor.) |

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the idea with the plastic covers for the connectors? You'd think screws were missing but none are shown in photo. Or that they would snap shut |
Answer: | Using the maximum rated power of the controller of 9 amps and 24 volts gives us a maximum of 216 watts!!!! Soooooo, I'd guess 3 watts would be well within the safe zone. Enjoy yourself! |
Question: | What type of potentiometers are used for this assembly? How many ohm |
Answer: | As long as both strips are using the same voltage or you're using a single strip with shared +12-24V, it should work fine. You'll end up with one unused potentiometer for dual-color white. |
Question: | Is it possible to (dim) play with the rgb colors from a 3w rgb full color high power led on a star base with this dimmer. i like to hear from you |
Answer: | I haven't cut the wires. These individual wires would be a very small gauge. If you are asking this question, you probably have the skills and equipment to do it. If I needed to I wouldn't hesitate. I would stagger the cut wire ends so the splices would offset each other. |
Question: | Can you use this on dual white led strips vs rgb |
Answer: | They are rated at 6 amps. So don't exceed that. Also there are complete kits of single color 16' with 600 leds available. |

Control your dimmable CFLs and LEDs with Lutron's LED+ CFL/LED dimmers. Screw-in dimmable compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and screw-in dimmable light emitting diode lamps (LEDs) are a great energy-saving alternative to incandescent or halogen light sources; however, your standard dimmer will not dim these light sources. Lutron's new LED+ dimmers provide a reliable dimming solution for dimmable CFLs and LEDs, that are easy to install and use. Maximize the dimming range of your bulb(s) by using the adjustment dial to set the low end dimming point of your bulb. Then use the Toggler LED+ Dimmer to soften the light of your high efficacy bulbs by adjusting the discreet slide to your desired brightness. Use the switch to turn the lights all the way off, or on to the preset level. Lutron LED+ dimmers also work with incandescent and halogen bulbs, ensuring that your dimmer works with all dimmable light sources. Lutron LED+ dimmers are the only dimmers in the market that are approved and UL listed to dim a mixed load of light sources on the same circuit (i.e. LED and halogen or CFL and LED bulbs), while matching the look of your existing toggle switches. View the demo under the product image to see how easy it is to install and use Lutron LED+ dimmers, along with a link to approved bulbs for optimal dimming performance.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this considered triac based (forward phase control or leading edge) or 0-10v switch |
Answer: | The switch generates heat so it has tabs on both sides to prevent you from mounting them side by side without being aware that you have to "derate" them if you want to install them side be side. In other words, you can put 600 watts of incandescent bulbs on one dimmer if you mount it alone but only 500 watts of incandescent on a dimmer with one side tab removed (you remove only the tab(s) that overlap) and only 400 watts load with both tabs removed (as you would do mounting 3 switches in a standard 3 gang box). They also include a chart for derating when you mix CFL/LED bulbs with incandescent. |
Question: | do I need two of these switches in a 3-way application or can I use one dimmer with a normal 3-way on the other end |
Answer: | I was wondering this exact same question, so I called Lutron and learned that they're the exact same switch. The model numbers differ because they're marketed/sold differently (e.g. Home Depot vs. other stores). So, if you find one cheaper than another, as I've done here on Amazon, buy the less expensive one! |
Question: | Can you fit three of these switches side by side in a standard 3 gang box |
Answer: | The plastic cover can keep out the dust and make the connection safe. |
Question: | Anyone know the difference between the "Ariadni" switch (AYCL-153P) and the "Toggler" switch (TGCL-153P |
Answer: | I don't know the value of the potentiometers but definitely you shouldn't think they are simple voltage divisors. I guess they control the pulse width and probably are carbon type. |
