Hence, you have to maneuver the plug a little to accomplish this. Personally, I do not like TR outlets for this reason but they are code since they help avoid the possibility of electrocution should something be inserted into one side. Somehow, however, we all survived childhood!!! ;)

What causes an electrical surge?

In stormy weather, when thunder happens close to the transmission line, the conveying circuit will create induced surge voltage. This can also occur when a large electric device is turned on in the power circuit. Both types of induced surge voltage can interfere the electric devices connected. The first type can damage the devices.

Frequently used surge protection components

Surge protectors can be added to the power circuit to prevent the damage. The surge protectors are constructed with different types of surge protection components. The most frequently used ones are MOV, GDT and TVS. MOV has medium energy absorbing capability and response time, so it is widely used in simple surge protection circuits. GDT has large energy absorbing capability but longer response time; TVS has response speed less than 1Ns with small energy absorbing capability. All three of them are used together to construct professional surge protection circuits.

POWRUI 3-Level Surge Protection Circuit

POWRUI is one of the few Surge Protector makers which uses TVS, MOV and GDT to make 3-Level Surge Protection Circuit that absorbs the energy in steps, providing the best protection of the electrical devices from voltage spikes. Answer:	That is supposed to be the purpose of having twin inlets. If the capacity is too low, it will simply take longer to charge the connected appliances. Answer:	I bought the 3 prong version. On the side that plugs into the wall, the Two prongs are the same size (and then there is the round prong). The slots for the prongs on the unit itself accommodate the larger and smaller prong type. I don’t know if the 2 prong version is the same.

Answer:	I think the answer from the Tessan Direct Seller is too vague and did not clearly answer the question. If each of the three USB ports can provide 2.4a all at the same time then this unit provides 36 watts of output. I've yet to find any unit like this that puts out that much power, so I suspect the 2.4 amps they mention is the total for all three ports. So one port could provide 2.4 amps so long ass the other two ports were not being used.
