11 best sheet insulation
Sheet insulation is a material used in the context of insulation, especially for windows, HVAC systems, and buildings. It's an important component of weatherproofing and improving energy efficiency. Here's what you need to know about sheet insulation:
Types of Sheet Insulation:
- Fiberglass: This type of sheet insulation is made from fine glass fibers and is commonly used in residential and commercial buildings. It's lightweight, effective at insulating, and can be installed as rolls or boards.
- Foam Board: Foam board insulation is often used for its high insulating value and is available in various materials, including expanded polystyrene (EPS), extruded polystyrene (XPS), and polyisocyanurate. It's commonly used for insulating walls, roofs, and foundations.
- Reflective Insulation: Reflective insulation is typically made of foil or film and is designed to reflect radiant heat. It's commonly used in attics and under roofs to keep the interior cooler.
Applications:
- Window Insulation Kits: Sheet insulation can be used as a part of window insulation kits to improve energy efficiency in homes. These kits often include plastic film that is attached to the window frame using double-sided tape and then heated to create a tight seal.
- Weatherproofing: Sheet insulation is used to seal gaps and cracks in buildings, making them more airtight and energy-efficient. It helps to keep the cold air out in the winter and the hot air out in the summer.
- HVAC Systems: Sheet insulation is applied to HVAC ducts and pipes to prevent heat loss or gain, ensuring that conditioned air remains at the desired temperature during transport.
Benefits:
- Energy Efficiency: Sheet insulation is a key component of an energy-efficient building envelope, reducing heating and cooling costs.
- Improved Comfort: Properly installed sheet insulation helps maintain a consistent indoor temperature and reduces drafts, improving comfort.
- Noise Reduction: Some types of sheet insulation can also serve as sound barriers, reducing noise pollution from outside sources.
Installation:
- Installing sheet insulation usually involves measuring, cutting, and securing the material in place. Proper installation is crucial for maximum effectiveness.
- It's important to seal all joints and seams to prevent air leakage, as even small gaps can significantly reduce insulation performance.
Maintenance and Upkeep:
- Sheet insulation typically requires little to no maintenance once installed. However, periodic inspections are advisable to ensure that it remains in good condition.
Local Building Codes: It's important to be aware of local building codes and regulations when installing sheet insulation, as these can vary by location.
In summary, sheet insulation is a versatile material used to improve energy efficiency, weatherproofing, and HVAC system performance in buildings. It is available in various types, with fiberglass and foam board being commonly used for different applications. Proper installation and maintenance are key to maximizing its benefits in terms of energy savings and comfort.

User questions & answers
Question: | can I use this to stuff into open spaces in between screen doors |
Answer: | Should work provided opening isn't larger than k-flex & provided you can stuff it in. |
Question: | Can i place this inside an hvac duct to decrease noise |
Answer: | You can but you will have to glue it down. I recommend it on the outside because if this gets wet it acts like a sponge and you will grow mold on it |
Question: | How spongy is this foam? I need something for a Kydex press. I'd be gluing 2 pieces together for the top and bottom |
Answer: | I am not sure what a kydex press is... but this is more a memory foam, it gives enough top cushion, you might be able to smash it down to half its width if I had to guess. Used it has a pad for knees when tiling floors... make better then even the best knee pads on the market! |
Question: | How elastic is this foam |
Answer: | The 3/4" so called K-Flex sheet that arrived on my doorstep is far too stretchy to suit me. I went by the other guys comment who said it was not stretchy, well either he was wrong or they sent me the wrong product. This stuff looks & feels to my like Wet Suit Neoprene without the nylon fabric outer layers. I would describe it as very stretchy, the 37" width will stretch to 40" without much trouble. I hope this is Kflex because Neoprene operational temperatures are too low for my use. Kflex has higher operational specs. The crease from folding & the rolling into a box has not come out after a week laying flat. This crease made about a 1/8" indent about 1" wide in the 3/4" thickness. |

User questions & answers
Question: | did you have problems with odor from this product |
Answer: | It depends on how you want it to do. I have used both dynamats on 3 vehicles. If you want good sound and heat protection use the other with the tinfoil. I used this to cover the tin foil product to black it out under the dash and as a inner door, under the door panel, to help with sound and heat. Again, that is after lining the inside of the door with the other tinfoil dynamat. This product by its self isn't much of a heat and sound defuser without the other. I used it as a cover of the other exposed tinfoil and as a inter barrier. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this insulation serve as a vapor barrier |
Answer: | About the thickness of four sheets of 20 lb copy paper. It is really thin and easy to roll on. I was able to put it under all panels without any problems. It will not give you any problems. |
Question: | can I use supershield multipurpose reflective foil under hardwood flooring |
Answer: | This product is meant to dampen panel vibration, so if it is applied directly to the speaker grille then it should dampen the vibration but then it would block the sound coming through the grille. Hard to understand exactly your scenario. If you are thinking of applying this to a cabinet under a speaker grille, it would dampen vibration in the cabinet which may be transmitted to the grille but the grille may vibrate on its own from the sound waves exciting it. Sorry I could not be more specific but these types of issues are difficult to diagnose remotely. |
Question: | Can i use this for a tiny house to insulate the whole thing in the inside |
Answer: | Yes it will stick to it as long as it’s somewhat clean and dry. |
Question: | can this be used outside as a greenhouse thermal blanket |
Answer: | Yes, there is one sheet per box |

MWS 1000sqft Radiant Barrier Solar Attic Foil Reflective NASA Insulation 2x500 perf
User questions & answers
Question: | Can you staple it on walls |
Answer: | I certainly did, as stated in my review. Unless the product has been changed significantly since I purchased it in 2012, I would avoid it. Hopefully someone who purchased this more recently can give you an update on the odor situation. |
Question: | Is this good for an attic crawl space to keep heat out and air conditioning in during the summer |
Answer: | While not originally intended for this purpose there is no reason why this would not work. If it was a metal door it would be more effective, but as long as the surface is clean it will adhere. Make sure you use a hard rubber roller to roll it in. This is an important step. If this is not effective enough you can double it up with another layer or add their other products over it. Hope this helps! |
Question: | Is this perforated |
Answer: | Yes, this material will block outside noise from coming into the cabin. That is noise like raindrops hitting the roof/ceiling. I'm assuming you mean for a car? If you're talking about a house/home, then yes it will also dampen noise coming from above if applied to the majority of the affect area/ceiling. However if for a house this might get expensive considering the cost of Dynamat and you might want to check for a alternative cheaper brand from home Depot. |
Question: | Can this be used for the craw space walls |
Answer: | It’s mostly to stop the reverberation noise coming from sheet metal panels, adds weight to the panel to stop it from moving around as much, blocks exterior noise as well but for what you’re looking to do I don’t think it would be as effective as an acoustic foam would be. |
