Answer:	In most cases, Nest thermostats can get enough power from your system’s heating and cooling wires. But in a small number of situations you may need to connect a common or C wire to deliver enough consistent power to your thermostat when your heating and cooling wires are not able to deliver the needed power for your Nest thermostat. Battery drain issues normally happen when the power from your heating and cooling system goes out. The 2 AAA alkaline batteries are used as a backup, or to supplement if your system can’t deliver enough power.

Answer:	When you put it on circulate, the fan comes on for about 10 minutes every 20 minutes or so. The owners manual says it runs about 35% of the time. I used this feature this Fall with the system off (no heat or a/c) just to circulate the air through my Filtrete filters.

Answer:	Based on Samsung's website - YES, this will work with SmartThings! I have had one of these thermostats for a few years now and have been content with using it just through wifi - I plan to play around with this now that I know it is compatible!! Answer:	I called Honeywell and was told the "C" wire is blue and in fact mine is blue. I have no black wire. I have 5 wires yellow, white, blue, green and red. I was told I could check for AC voltage by connecting my meter to the red and blue wires. The Honeywell tech was very helpful. 800 468-1502.

Answer:	There is no functional difference between the two. This TH9320WF5003 is white and the RTH9580WF1005 is silver. The RTH9580WF1005 is the retail model with a 1 year warranty and this one is intended to be a contractor only model with a 5 year warranty. Honeywell's former policy was that the TH9320WF5003 warranty wouldn't be honored if not installed by a contractor. However, they have since changed this. You now get 1 year with this too if you install it yourself.

Answer:	It does using an app. But if you mean Homekit, NO! Seems to only support Microsoft Cortona, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home. If you want Homekit support, I'd look at a Ecobee.
Question:	Can this be controlled by Android. If so what app do I use
Answer:	Upon setup the unit asks you what kind of equipment you have, validates your wiring and asks you your preferences for heating and cooling ranges you're comfortable with. It works differently than a typical older style thermostat that forces a desired temp that the unit rigidly chases. The glas asks you for your temp preferences for 1. Away heat to 2. Away cool to 3. Home heat to 4. Home cool to 5. Sleep heat to 6. Sleep cool to There's also a couple options that go beyond the typical older style units. One is 'arrival anticipation', the other 'pre-start', both are intended to avoid the issue with older style units that leave you with a freezing house with blazing heat first thing in the morning. Same would apply for ac. I'm really happy with the units. They are indisputably the coolest therstats you'll see. The only thing lacking is additional room sensors and the capacity to deal with two furnaces, it seems kind of goofy to have to buy two full blown units when they are on the same network.
Question:	We don't have a C wire but read we can use the G wire. Is this true
Answer:	The screen is just about 5 inches diagonally and seems to be between a 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio. The thermostat can NOT control two or three separate zones. It's not a replacement for the fancy/smart equipment going to a single central HVAC control head with sensors for airflow and temperature, managing baffles and airflow throughout a commercial building. This is a thermostat intended for home use and not like some of the commercial HVAC control units that Johnson sells. That having been said, I have two separate thermostats in my home, one upstairs and one downstairs. Each thermostat controls one zone but the App I have can manage both thermostats individually.

Answer:	I have a 5 year old Lux Thermostat. When we bought a new Rheem this past summer, the technician pulled the batteries out of it saying they were not needed. End result, is every time we have a power outage, the thermostat looses it's programming. it losses it when we change back and forth from heat to cool also. I'd be wary of any advice about removing batteries unless you're sure that it does not affect the thermostat memory. i say this as the A/C is on and it's program is set on 72 degrees. i had it set on 75 and have not attempted to reprogram it since that would be just a temporary fix it resets down to 72 often not sure why.

Answer:	I just went to Best Buy to play with the RTH9585WF and see what is the difference in the settings. Color options do seem to be slightly different. Both have 7 day programing (four settings per day) plus vacation etc. The literature says the 9585 automatically switches between cool/heat but in 9585 system (MODE) there is only "heat", "cool" and "off". So my guess is the automatic is not a setting you pick. 9560 offers the forth option of automatic and will show heat and cool adjustments on the home page setting on the panel. Other than that I do not see any difference. My guess is the 9585 has a newer chip set but honestly I have no idea. I called Honeywell and the tech could not even tell me the difference other than it's the second generation model. Both work with Alexa and other smart devices and smart hubs. I'm still thinking of returning the 9580 for the 9585 but if I have to switch between heat and cold that is a deal breaker and I kind of like seeing the date when I walk buy. My guess is in a few years Honeywell will over a unit to compete with the Ecobee with something like Alexa built into it. Frankly, I'd purchase the Ecobeen 4 but my wife of 35 years thought the Ecobeen being black and kind of large and the white mounting plate was ugly and after 35 years of marriage I felt like this decision was not worth the fight.

Question:	is this te 3rd Gen hub
Answer:	As long as your router also has an ethernet port. This is to replace your wifi network. For instance, I have a cable modem with two ethernet ports and a wifi network. I disabled the wifi on my cable modem and plugged this Samsung into the ethernet port. Then changed all my devices to attach to the new wifi network provided by this device. I could have probably just used the same SSID for the new network and not require changing any of the other devices but decided to create a new one.
Question:	Can this work without Ethernet wire plugged in, if the main hub has Ethernet wire plugged in itself
Answer:	The units I purchased (Nov. 2018) support port forwarding and uPNP. They do not support DDNS. There is no newer firmware, and no USB port. I'm pretty sure these are the same units being shipped today. A few things to consider: These units were designed by Plume and are managed with a special version of the Plume app. However, you cannot call Plume for support (they will send you to Samsung), and Samsung SmartThings support knows next to nothing about them (as of July 2020). They will not take Plume firmware updates, because they've been modified for the SmartThings hub functionality, and Samsung has not updated the WiFi software on them since October of 2018 (they have updated the Hub software many times, which happens automatically). They don't have many other customization features that you would expect from a typical WiFi router, either. They are very much 'plug and play' devices for people that just want stuff to work, and they do well at that. If you want more functionality (as I did), you can put them in 'bridge mode', which disables the router, firewall, and DHCP functions, and then did all the fancy stuff with a typical WiFi router and firewall (you could use your old WiFi router with the WiFi disabled); the pods are then strictly for the WiFi part of the setup - set the SSID and password on them, and you are done. Just don't forget that your cable modem and router/firewall are also potential performance bottlenecks separate from the WiFi. The basic 'mesh' functionality is automatic, works well, and is seamless. It will significantly improve coverage in your home without any extra work. But for the best performance, there is definitely a benefit in running an Ethernet cable to each device back to your router or cable modem (whether in bridge mode or not). This avoids multiple WiFi hops and reduces WiFi spectrum congestion. It requires no configuration change, they figure it out among themselves. If you can do this, there is one other thing that you might find convenient, and that is to run PoE (Power over Ethernet) and get rid of the power supply - nice if you have them stuck on the ceiling. This is not a function of the pod, but you need a PoE switch or PoE power injectors on one end, and then a PoE adapter to plug in to the pod end (a little split cable thingy converting from Ethernet in to Ethernet out + power out). That's more than most people will bother with, but it does work. The 'SmartHub' function will be taken on by the first one plugged in when you originally connect them, and this particular device will remain the hub forever, so if that one is unplugged, one of the others will not take over that job unless you reset them all. All in all, they have worked well for me (I'm a network and security engineer) with over 50 WiFi devices running, and individual WiFi nodes getting SpeedTest numbers of over 500Mbps down (my base XFinity service is 720 Mbps down, faster than most WiFi devices). Just don't ask Samsung SmartThings support too many questions (Like a) why does the app always tell me my network is down, when the app is clearly running over it? Or b) why do they still have 1.5 year old code when I get messages that they have auto-updated regularly?) Such questions will just confuse them - they really don't know, and they will take 1-2 weeks for them to say that they don't know. (Answers: a) because the app doesn't understand bridge mode - I tried it and told them; and b) they only update the hub firmware, not the Plume firmware - support didn't even know there WERE two different pieces of firmware until I gave them the two version #s).

Answer:	No need to connect WiFi and Bluetooth. As long as it is a device with Zigbee function, you can connect the zigbee smart plug. For example, alexa echo plus, just plug in and ask "Alexa, discover device".

Answer:	Yes, but it must be configured to do so. If you see only "heat/cool/off" in the mode screen, then press "fan" and "up" simultaneously. When the screen changes, press "next" until you reach option 12. Setting "0" enables "heat/cool/off" in the mode screen, while setting"1" enables "heat/cool/auto/off." Setting "3" is "auto/off" only. When you press "done," your mode screen will show the option you selected. FYI: In "auto" mode, the "heat" temperature at any time must always be at least 3 degrees less than the "cool" temperature.
