Product Needs: Consider the specific security needs of your home, such as whether you need indoor cameras, outdoor cameras, a video doorbell, or a full home security system.
Video Quality: Pay attention to the video quality offered by the cameras and doorbells, as this can impact your ability to identify details in recorded footage.
Subscription Costs: Be aware of the ongoing subscription costs for cloud storage and additional features, as these can add to the overall cost of ownership.

User questions & answers
Question: | My thermostat is only used for heating the house and only has 2 wires, a red and white. Can i still use this ecobee |
Answer: | If you have a really old 2-wire system, one that does NOT have modern solid state controls, then Ecobee won't work right off the shelf, even with their 2-3 wire power conversion module. These heating plants predate the 1980s and use "dry contact" thermostats. You can make it work if you install a 24v isolation relay. Ecobee outlines the procedure on their web site, but it takes some basic electrical wiring knowledge. I'm not sure if you can use the 2-wire conversion module with an isolation relay - it should be possible somehow or other. If you have a third wire running to the thermostat (it's often there) then you should use it to run 24V to the Ecobee, and ignore the conversion module. |
Question: | Is there a provision to bypass the 'auto off' motion sensor so that my dogs don't suffer from the heat when I'm out |
Answer: | Yes- you can disable the Smart Home/Away feature under the "Sensors" section of the interface, so that the thermostat will follow only the schedule/preset temperatures. In my case, I disabled it because I wanted the opposite functionality (I didn't want the system turning on if I stopped at home for a hour over lunch). Note that the "Follow Me" feature is a separate setting (found in the Sensors section as well) that allows the system to track where you are in the house and attempt to heat/cool that part of the house closer to your desired setpoint. |
Question: | Does the main thermostat have a sensor for the first floor? Or is the white sensor needed for that floor? Is the black hub a sensor |
Answer: | Main thermostat and white (remote) includes a temperature sensor and a motion sensor. First, you don't have to use the remote sensor. Second, if you use the remote sensor, the main sensor will combine the input of both (main and remote) temperature sensors and based on the amount of time spent in each area using the motion sensor. If motion is detected more near the main and less near the remote (as a %), then the main temperature will weigh heavier than the remote. As well, you do not need to use remotes and can be assigned to work during selected schedules only. It's quite amazing, but I haven't used them on my system yet. I figured I would learn the rest of the system before I introduced them. |
Question: | is this a different model than the ecobee3 that is slightly less expensive? Also if wifi is out can you control it fully manually |
Answer: | Yes, this is a different model then the ecobee3 lite. The ecobee will still be able to function as a thermostat and talk to the sensors, if your wifi goes out. You can still manually control your heating and cooling at your ecobee without wifi. |
Question: | Compatible with alexa? do i have to buy nexia bridge for it to work |
Answer: | For the thermostat alone, no nexia bridge is needed. |
Question: | Can you set Temperature limits on this thermostat |
Answer: | Yes you can. |
Question: | The connection key to setup wifi will not work so i am not able to connect it to wifi. anyone know the fix |
Answer: | Must use your phone and the app. |
Question: | Is this thermostat compatible with the xr624 connection |
Answer: | Yes, it is compatible. The XR724 replaces XL624. |

Question: | Every video/review I have read shows the camera pointed straight ahead. There doesn't appear to be much left/right adjustment. How much |
Answer: | I don't understand why the seller can't answer a simple yes or no question about whether this has LED lights in it. Deceptive answers like that one they provided makes me wonder if I should keep looking for a different security camera? |
Question: | Can the flood light bulbs be changed out when they burn out |
Answer: | Requires the mini sd card |
Question: | Is there an option to save captured video to a private ftp server like what dlink allows? i won't buy if i have to subscribe to a service for that |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this camera work with existing door bell chime |
Answer: | Hi, The Ring Video Doorbell Wired is a wired-only doorbell that has all the features Ring customers have come to know and love. Including 1080p HD video with night vision, two-way talk and Advanced Motion Detection, all easily controlled within the Ring app. This doorbell can be powered by either an existing doorbell system, the Ring plug-in adapter, or a transformer for power supply (10-24 VAC, 40VA max, 50/60Hz, or 24VDC, 0.5A, 12W). It's important to note, halogen or garden-lighting transformers are not compatible. The doorbell requires you to bypass the existing doorbell chime in your home. This means that after installation, your home doorbell system will not sound when the device’s button is pressed. If you wish to hear audio alerts in your home, you can pair your Video Doorbell Wired with a Ring Chime or compatible Alexa device. If you have any additional questions please email us at [email protected]. Sincerely, Danielle from Ring [email protected] |
Question: | Can you aim the camera in specific direction |
Answer: | Hi, Great question! The Ring Video Doorbell Wired offers a 155° horizontal field of view and a 90° vertical field of view. It is a wired-only doorbell and connects to your home's existing doorbell wiring, therefore the location of the existing wiring will determine how you can mount the doorbell. The Ring Wedge Kit and Corner Kit will be available for purchase. These kits when installed can help angle your Ring Video Doorbell in your desired direction. If you have any additional questions please reach out to our team at [email protected]. Thank you, Danielle from Ring |
Question: | Does not work with existing doorbell chime when wired!!?? That’s not a good thing |
Answer: | Pretty silly that Ring designed this to replace wired doorbells but it doesn't sound the current chime that people already have. I would venture to guess most people enjoy the sound of their current chime vs an electronic sound. The Nest doorbell has had this feature since launch. Bad design choice and feels like this was done to upsell the Ring Chime at the expense of what's beneficial to the consumer. The Video Doorbell 3 uses the existing chime, but it's bulkier and unattractive - would have been nice to use this smaller version. |
Question: | Do you have to reset if there's a power cut |
Answer: | Hey, If you should experience a power outage or a wifi issue the doorbell will stop working. However, once the power is restored the Ring Video Doorbell Wired should automatically reconnect to your network. If by chance the doorbell is not able to automatically reconnect you can manually reconnect it via the Device Health tile within the Ring application. If you have any additional questions please reach out to us at [email protected]. Thank you, Danielle from Ring [email protected] |

User questions & answers
Question: | If my WiFi goes down, will the system still work for live viewing? Maybe not record, but will it still activate with motion and send alerts for veiw |
Answer: | No, it won’t record anything if your WiFi goes down. It seems to me they could have added a small amount of internal storage for such events. However, I believe they want you to purchase the subscription service - without which many of the features of the device are useless. |
Question: | What is the only difference between the ring 3 and the ring 3 plus |
Answer: | Hello, Great question! The only difference between the Ring Video Doorbell 3 and 3 Plus is the Pre-Roll feature. Pre-Roll is only available on the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus. This feature allows you to see an additional four seconds of video before the motion event was even triggered. This is a first-to-market feature for battery-powered doorbells and unique exclusively to Ring. Pre-Roll video is in black and white and in low resolution to conserve battery life. Answer: | You can buy another camera to put up in the back of the house. Like a ring stick cam but the box only come with the one ring cam |
Question: | Can u hard wire this and not use a battery |

Answer: | Hi there, The All-new Ring Chime was intended to be used on a standard 110 to 240VA. Please reach us directly should you have any additional questions as our team is happy to assist. Regards, Ring Team [email protected] |
Question: | Does it play a different sound for each ring doorbell? The old chime would not. Does the new one |
Answer: | AFAIK you need to buy two in order to get a chime for each doorbell then link them separately to each ring. Then you have to change the tone for both doorbells to get a unique sound for each door. |
Question: | Does this chime work only when the button is pushed on the doorbell device |
Answer: | You can also set it up to make a chime when it detects motion. I usually have this setting turned off so it only chimes when someone pushes the button. |
Question: | How long does this new chime work? i have 2 chimes & a chime pro. only one works. the others flash & will not connect or just doesn't work at all |
Answer: | Mine also quit working after 2-2.5 years! Do these things come with a warranty? I would also like to know how long this one lasts. It's ridiculous if I have to buy one of these every 2.5 years! C'mon Ring, improve your chime quality! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the advantage of an echo black dot |
Answer: | The common sense answer to this question is that it's a matter of personal preference. You can view the Ring Doorbells from your smartphone, your computer, your television (using the Echo Fire HDMI compliant device), or any of Amazon's assistant devices such as the Echo Show, The Echo Dot, or the Fire Tablet. There are no additional features granted by using an Echo Dot or Echo Show, but the convenience of having the ability to use voice commands (e.g. "Alexa, show me the front door.") is quite nice. |
Question: | Can you wake up the camera view manually from your phone, or does is it only activated via the motion sensor |
Answer: | You can wake camera in live view mode from you phone. |
Question: | can i use this and watch on my desktop computer |
Answer: | A lot of these answers are outdated by far, I have two of these an I am able to watch from the desktop and laptop by downloading the ring software for latest updates Mac OS X and Windows. Hope this helps anyone that is still curious. Posted Feb 19,2021 |
Question: | Do you have to pay for cloud service |

Question: | what is the range of motion sensor |
Answer: | They shortened the range with an update in Sept 2019. We are lucky to get more than 10 feet out of it, and by the time the Ring is activated and alerts us the person is already at the door. We are fighting for them to change back for removing an advertised feature or full refund. |
