User questions & answers
Question: | I have insteon door sensors and outlets, would they be compatible with the samsung smarthings hub |
Answer: | There is an app calling "Stringify" that will let you build routines with insteon and samsung (and alexa and most other zwave products). |
Question: | Is this compatible with the Amazon Echo :Alexa |
Answer: | Amazon Echo is what really makes this hub shine. I also recommend connecting the Harmony Hub. This allows you to turn off your TV and other media devices with voice command through the Echo. |
Question: | Is this already the new v2 hub |
Answer: | This is the new hub, but I'd avoid it. ST promised a lot and didn't deliver. It's been out for over a month and it still only supports one user, and is highly unstable.Worse the new app has pretty well left the V1 users in the lurch. Ask yourself, if this is how they treat the customers who funded them through kickstarter and enabled them to get rich in a $200 million buyout from Samsung, how are they going to treat you when V3 comes along? They may get their act together, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. |
Question: | Does this hub have to connect directly to the router? If so, what are my options if no remaining outlets on my router |
Answer: | No. It has to connect, via Ethernet, to your internal LAN. While it may connect directly to one of the Ethernet ports on your edge router, it need not. Since home routers typically have 1-4 LAN ports, they are quickly exhausted. If you have many non-wireless devices, you will need to add an Ethernet Switch (technically a multi-port bridge), plugged into one of the router's LAN ports. Compact, fanless, Ethernet switches come in 5-16 ports. You can have multiple Ethernet switches, which can be cascaded, or starred from the router. Although some switches can handle a loop topology, many inexpensive ones cannot. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you manually turn on zones from the unit itself without the use of a phone |
Answer: | If you remove the front cover, there are buttons for selecting a zone and running it manually. There are LEDs in a circle around the Rachio logo, numbered to match the sprinkler zones as you select your target zone. Once the zone you wish to water is highlighted, simply press the manual run button. Good in an emergency, but this unit's primary use case is using the app or website. |
Question: | Does this work if wifi is down? What watering schedule does it revert to in this case? Will the app alert me |
Answer: | The Iro utilizes EEPROM, persistent memory, so the last saved schedule(s) are stored on the device itself. So Please rest assured knowing that if the Iro loses connectivity with your WiFi, it will always continue to water using the last saved. Any updates/changes to these watering schedules will upload to the Iro the next time it reconnects with the cloud. You will receive an e-mail notifying you that it is off line. |
Question: | Can you manually start/stop zones via the app? When working on the system I would love to not walk back to the garage for this |
Answer: | Yes. You can manually start/stop each zone individually from the app, as well as adjust how many minutes each zone is on. |
Question: | What's are the differences between gen 1 and gen |
Answer: | The sync up is totally different in that just approaching the devise with you smart devise it will ask for the serial number and then you are linked with the unit. There are several manual cycles when you do not have wifi available during initial installation. There is the function of the using flow sensors in the future. There is much more space for the valve wires. There is the visual of what valve is operating during the irrigation cycle on the controller to name a few. |

Answer: | I'd say around 15 feet but if your using Apple homekit and your out of the neighborhood and want to unlock outside of your home wifi range (and Bluetooth range) your Apple TV needs to be in Bluetooth range again aporox 15-30 feet. User questions & answers
Question: | Does the grip Comparable with elago wall plate cover |
Answer: | There are two gigabit NICs. I would also suggest you consider the Zotac ZBox with two NICs if you need two NICs. They seem a little more reliable (and cheaper) than the Shuttle. |
Question: | Will this fit the nest e |
Answer: | it comes with a dual fan cooling system that has a copper mount on top of the CPU. it is fairly tight and I do not think any other cooling will fit. potentially if you removed one fan and the cooling system and had a external low profile liquid cooling system, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of a tiny enclosure. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these wired ones install on old electrical wired systems? The thermostat needed an additional wire installed. Will these, too |
Answer: | Yes all the wired Nest Protect needs is the 120V hot (black) and neutral (white) wires in the electrical box connected to the plug-in pigtail that comes with the Protect. If your house has multiple detectors now you will usually also find a red wire in the electrical box that interconnects your old detectors so that if one goes off they all sound. That wire is no longer needed with the Protect so you just cap it with a wire nut. |
Question: | Can you view carbon monoxide levels in PPM |
Answer: | Yes, but only if you are connected to the internet and then only for the last ten days, and only if the level rises above the heads up level (which is 70ppm and rising for around an hour or a shorter period if over 150ppm). To counter what someone else's answer was - Carbon monoxide does NOT sink. It is in fact lighter than air (CO has an atomic weight of 28 versus Nitrogen (N2) which is also 28 - but marginally heavier (by 0.003 amu due to heavier isotopes), Oxygen (O2) which is 32 and Argon which is 40. However the weight is similar enough in the air in your house that it tends to distribute as a fluid and is measurable anywhere in a room; it really depends upon how air moves through the space. The levels tend to fluctuate rapidly as CO distributes and any outside air mixes in and additional CO is added. Overall, there is no perfect way to measure the CO levels with one device in one place, but this is as good as most people need. |
Question: | What happens if the wifi disconnects? Does the alarm sound |
Answer: | The Nest Protects and Nest Learning Thermostat create their own ad-hoc network and don't rely on your home wifi for communications between devices. WiFi is only used for communications OUTSIDE of the home to pass on alerts, etc. Even if the ad-hoc network fails the individual alarms will sound as they detect smoke/CO. |
Question: | My home has hard-wired interconnected smoke detectors. can i simply replace one with this device? i read that it doesn't use interconnect wire |
Answer: | I think very few here understand the question. National code requires interconnected smoke detectors as of 2004, there is an extra wire in the circuit and all smoke detectors are on that wire for 'signal'. When one alarms they should ALL alarm. If I am reading the answers correctly, NEST does not comply with the signal wire. However, it looks like it does set up its own wireless network to act like they are all interconnected. To be honest, after paying for the extra wire behind the wall, why would I want to by 6-8 nests at $100 each when the originals are 20-30 each? This way there is one smart point to notify if any detector is going off. Nests way 6-9 smoke detectors, 6-8 login, 6-8 ip address. Ugh, what a nightmare! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this require a c wire? why does it need aaa batteries |
Answer: | Dap, Yes the TX9600TS will operate your 2 stage gas heat furnace. There should be a W1 & W2 wires going to the new TX9600TS if the thermostat is doing the staging. If not then you will have 1 W1 wire and the furnace will do the staging. Lux Technical Support; [email protected] |
Question: | Will this work with the nest remote temperature sensors |
Answer: | yes, that is how I am using it, I only have 2 wires coming from my boiler. Batteries seem to last a year, I just change them out at the beginning of my heating season. |
Question: | I have 4 wires, 1st wire is w/ 2nd y/3rd is g/4th is rh will this thermostat work with these wires |
Answer: | The unit has 4 internal tabs that hold it together. I find it easier to separate it using the three tabs on the top of the unit and pushing back on the center tab while holding one of the side tabs. It's a tight fit so it doesn't come apart easily just don't be too brutal with it. |
Question: | Does this work with the nest temperature sensor |
Answer: | Yes there is a four digit code to lock the screen. |
