Answer:	Yes it can be done but not woth the effort unless you enjoy the challenge. I had the VAM and removed it.. I now use the eyezon evl4 with homeseer hometroller Zee S2 and the right plug in. The 10 scene limit of the VAM really makes the ZWAVE function nearly worthless.
Question:	Anyone tried to connect this to nexia or mi casa verde? Will this send alarm status (i.e.: armed, dis-armed, etc) to other devices
Answer:	I have a similar issue, but perhaps in a slightly different form. I have a motion detector, and when in armed - stay mode, it will allow you to walk through the house without tripping the alarm. That said, it still registers faults which the e-mail system will send. If I arm the system and walk around the house, I get flooded with e-mails. I created an e-mail rule to sort them accordingly, but it definitely seems to be a bug.The VAM is a great tool, but Honeywell's development vendor really missed the mark on a number of things, especially as related to security (oh, the irony!). I have been in touch with their CISO over the past six months, and there is supposedly a new firmware revision due out any day now (in fact, it was promised for today, but has not yet published so far as I can tell) that supposedly addresses the MANY, MANY data security issues that are present in this device. I'll update again on that front once the update pushes out and I confirmed that they fixed what was left wide open in the original release.UPDATE: (as of 17 Sep 2015) Honeywell has published a new set of firmware for this device. Current and future owners should upgrade the default firmware on these units to the new version ASAP as there are *major* security flaws (e.g. root access to the device via a null password, ability to unlock a Z-Wave connected lock with no authentication - little things like that) with the initial release of this product. Question:	I setup a rule to email when security is in armed stay. it sends email every 20 min or so, when mode is not changed. Do you have this issue
Answer:	Total Connect is supported, but not required to use this product. If you have the skills to properly implement VPN connectivity to a network, that would allow access remotely without the use of Total Connect. That said, at this time there are several *serious* information security concerns about this product that make me uncomfortable enough that I don't even want it on my home network, much less remotely accessed via the Internet. I have raised them to Honeywell's head of information security and they will hopefully be addressed in a future firmware revision.I love the z-wave integration, and for that purpose, this device is fantastic - but as of now, I would strongly recommend against keeping this device permanently connected to any publicly-accessible network until Honeywell gets the laundry list of vulnerabilities sorted out on this device.UPDATE: (as of 17 Sep 2015) Honeywell has published a new set of firmware for this device. Answer:	Yes, but it must be configured to do so. If you see only "heat/cool/off" in the mode screen, then press "fan" and "up" simultaneously. When the screen changes, press "next" until you reach option 12. Setting "0" enables "heat/cool/off" in the mode screen, while setting"1" enables "heat/cool/auto/off." Setting "3" is "auto/off" only. When you press "done," your mode screen will show the option you selected. FYI: In "auto" mode, the "heat" temperature at any time must always be at least 3 degrees less than the "cool" temperature.

For example, when I go to bed at night, I make my bedroom the assigned sensor, so that regardless of what the temp is downstairs, the temp in my bedroom will be regulated to the temp that I have set.

Question:	How can this device supply a different temperature in one room versus another? The heating system doesn't send heat to one room and not another
Answer:	It doesn't. What it does is tells you which room temperatures to prioritize for your settings. For example, for my sleep settings I have set my thermostat to prioritize the Master Bedroom sensor. So it will heat/cool based on that sensor, instead of the thermostat sensor which is sitting in the hall and isn't really related to my sleeping comfort at all. You can also prioritize multiple locations. So if I wanted to, I could tie the sensors for all 3 bedrooms to my sleep settings and it would average out the sensor readings for all 3 bedrooms.

Answer:	This Thermostat truly Rocks!! - It has a screen lock as well as Security codes for front panel access. It also has security if you want to use WiFi to remotely access it. Setup is a breeze also. I HIGHLY recommend this thermostat. The NEST is an excellent choice as well.
Question:	Without battery backup, what happens in a power outage? Is there internal memory that keeps the settings and how long, and is thermostat still usable

Answer:	I have a 5 year old Lux Thermostat. When we bought a new Rheem this past summer, the technician pulled the batteries out of it saying they were not needed. End result, is every time we have a power outage, the thermostat looses it's programming. it losses it when we change back and forth from heat to cool also. I'd be wary of any advice about removing batteries unless you're sure that it does not affect the thermostat memory. i say this as the A/C is on and it's program is set on 72 degrees. i had it set on 75 and have not attempted to reprogram it since that would be just a temporary fix it resets down to 72 often not sure why.
Question:	How do I figure out if this will work with my wiring? I read that there might be issues with the electric wires (might be missing one COMMON wire
Answer:	I just went to Best Buy to play with the RTH9585WF and see what is the difference in the settings. Color options do seem to be slightly different. Both have 7 day programing (four settings per day) plus vacation etc. The literature says the 9585 automatically switches between cool/heat but in 9585 system (MODE) there is only "heat", "cool" and "off". So my guess is the automatic is not a setting you pick. 9560 offers the forth option of automatic and will show heat and cool adjustments on the home page setting on the panel. Other than that I do not see any difference. My guess is the 9585 has a newer chip set but honestly I have no idea. I called Honeywell and the tech could not even tell me the difference other than it's the second generation model. Both work with Alexa and other smart devices and smart hubs. I'm still thinking of returning the 9580 for the 9585 but if I have to switch between heat and cold that is a deal breaker and I kind of like seeing the date when I walk buy. My guess is in a few years Honeywell will over a unit to compete with the Ecobee with something like Alexa built into it. Frankly, I'd purchase the Ecobeen 4 but my wife of 35 years thought the Ecobeen being black and kind of large and the white mounting plate was ugly and after 35 years of marriage I felt like this decision was not worth the fight.
