13 best heated tiles

Heated tiles are a type of flooring system that incorporates an electric heating element to provide warmth to the surface. They are commonly used in bathrooms, kitchens, and other areas where cold tile floors can be uncomfortable, especially during colder months. Here are some key points about heated tiles:

  1. Underfloor Heating System: Heated tiles utilize an underfloor heating system, which consists of electrical wires or heating mats installed beneath the tiles. These heating elements generate heat that is then transferred to the tiles.

  2. Installation: Heated tiles can be installed during the initial construction phase or added as a retrofit to existing floors. The heating elements are embedded in a layer of thinset mortar or placed on top of the subfloor, and then covered with the chosen tile material.

  3. Types of Heating Elements:

    • Electric Resistance Wires: These are thin wires that generate heat when an electric current passes through them. They are installed in a serpentine pattern or as a mesh.
    • Heating Mats: These are pre-fabricated mats with embedded heating elements. They are available in various sizes and can be easily rolled out and installed.
  4. Thermostatic Control: Heated tiles are typically controlled by a thermostat, allowing users to set the desired temperature for the floor. Some advanced systems may even offer programmable settings for different times of the day.

  5. Energy Efficiency: Heated tiles can be more energy-efficient compared to traditional forced-air heating systems because they focus on heating specific areas where people are present. This can lead to reduced energy consumption.

  6. Comfort and Health Benefits: Heated tiles provide a comfortable surface to walk on, especially during cold seasons. They can also help alleviate issues like cold feet and promote a more pleasant indoor environment.

  7. Suitable Tile Materials: Heated tiles can be used with a variety of tile materials, including ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, and even some types of engineered wood. It's important to select materials that are compatible with the heating system.

  8. Safety Considerations: Heated tiles are designed with safety features to prevent overheating and ensure that the system operates within safe temperature limits. Additionally, they are typically installed by professionals to meet building codes and safety standards.

  9. Maintenance: Heated tile systems are generally low-maintenance. Once installed, they require minimal attention and can provide consistent warmth for many years.

  10. Cost and Availability: The cost of heated tiles can vary depending on factors such as the size of the area to be heated, the type of heating element, and the chosen tile material. They are available through specialized HVAC and building supply stores, as well as from online retailers.

Heated tiles offer a comfortable and energy-efficient solution for keeping indoor spaces warm, especially in areas with cold climates. They are a popular choice for enhancing the comfort and functionality of tile flooring.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be installed in a shower? Waterproof
Answer: Hello, yes the LuxHeat system is rated for wet areas, however as with all heating for wet areas, the splice (joint between element/burgandy wire and cold lead/black wire), must be outside the shower. In the case of the mat, you can simply remove the tape holding the first 2-3 feet of wire and place the splice outside the shower by about 2 feet.
Question: What is the actual length of the mesh? I'm finding 2 different answers
Answer: Hello, the 20sqft mat is 12.2ft long by 20inches wide.
Question: Does this need to be installed the mesh in a bed of mortar first or can I apply my mortar as I tile and do it all in one step
Answer: Hello, you can apply your mortar as you tile, however if you choose this method to install you must make special effort to see that all wires are well covered with mortar. If a heating wire is not covered with mortar there will be no heatsink and the wire will run to hot. As long as the wires are well covered it'll be fine.

User questions & answers

Question: How can you cut it
Answer: Hello, you can cut the mesh between the heating wires, this allows you to rotate or flip the mat when there is a need to change direction. A portion of the wires can also be removed from the mat if there is a need to get into small spaces, however you must ensure the spacing between the loose wires is the same as the mat. The wattage of the heating wire is based on the length of the cable, if the cable is cut it'll change the heaters output........please do not cut the heating wire.
Question: How hot does this get and can use it under a counter in the kitchen
Answer: Hello, the LuxHeat heating system is UL approved for floor heating only, I wouldn't recommend it for a counter top. There are other self-regulating heat-tape options that would be better suited for that application.

  • HDP
  • 【Heated Floor Uncoupling Membrane】The distinguishing feature of Schluter- HEAT Floor Uncoupling Membrane is the existence of free space created by the configured channels on the underside of the matting. The free space provides a route for excess moisture and vapor to escape from the substrate that could otherwise cause damage to the tile layer above. Thus, Heated Floor Uncoupling Membrane effectively manages moisture beneath the tile covering.
  • 【Professional Wood Houses】This uncoupling underlayment serves with functions like uncoupling, waterproof, vapor management, and dense load distribution. It can functionally lengthen the service time of wooden houses.(Located in CA , United States, shipping in 1~2 business day, 3~5 day business days to arrive in your place)
  • 【Simple & Quick Install】It can be installed under the floor of the bathroom & kitchen. Thinset mortar and laminate tape are recommended for a moisture sealed and crack-proof finish. Only one person can finish this job.
  • 【Waterproofing】Heated Tile Floor Underlayment Roll provides reliable waterproofing in interior and exterior applications. Its polyethylene composition protects the substrate from moisture penetration, which is particularly important in today's building environment where most substrates are moisture sensitive.
  • 【Prevent Fractures And Cracks 】 Tile has been successfully installed for thousands of years by incorporating an uncoupling layer, or forgiving shear interface, within the tile assembly. Our Uncoupling Membrane provides uncoupling through its open rib structure, which allows for in-plane movement that effectively neutralizes the differential movement stresses between the substrate and the tile, thus eliminating the major cause of cracking and delaminating of the tiled surface.

User questions & answers

Question: Could I use a vinyl floating floor on top? If so do I use a leveler on top
Answer: Hello, yes most vinyl flooring can be used on top of this type of heating system however it is always best to check with your vinyl flooring manufacturer to see if their flooring is compatible with floor heating. The heating elements must be completely covered with a leveler to ensure there is no direct contact between the heating element and the underside of the vinyl, the leveler also ensures even heat distribution.
Question: Can install 2 sets of 200 sq ft in one thermostat
Answer: Hello, the 200sqft mat uses 2400watts, most 240volt thermostats have a 3600watt (15amp) limit. You can however add a power relay to the thermostat to increase total load availability, depending on amperage of relay you could then connect the second 200sqft mat. I'd suggest involving and electrician to check all supporting wiring is sufficient.
Question: can it be used in bathrooms
Answer: Hello, yes the LuxHeat mat is approved for wet areas (bathrooms). As with all electric floor heating systems it's important to keep the join (connection between Burgundy heating wire and black cold lead) outside of the shower. If the mat is used in the shower area it's advisable to remove 2-3 feet of cable from the mat to ensure join is 2 feet outside shower.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work with Wink
Answer: I am sorry, i have not installed them yet, but according to the manual, you can have outside temperature sensor, and return air temperature sensor, but no additional room temperature sensors.
Question: If i set it to lets say 76 degrees, when will it turn on the a/c and turn it off? would it be at 77 and 75? i know the nest range is too wide for me
Answer: 8910W works just fine without WiFi, you just cannot manage it via the phone app or web. Yes it should reconnect when WiFi comes back. I occasionally (every 1-2 months) reboot the WiFi access points when upgrading their firmwares, and the 8910W reconnects just fine.
Question: what if you have more than one zone? I have 3 zones, would i need to by one thermostat for each zone
Answer: Hello, our model 8910W requires 24VAC to operate. R and C can be powered from the HVAC equipment transformer or any other constantly powered 24VAC source. Feel free to contact our technical support team at 1-800-334-6011 if you have more questions. Thank you.
Question: What is the exact difference between this and the ecobee3? this has still not been answered well, what will i miss out on
Answer: Hi D. DeBartolo,That's a great question. You would be able to adjust the span setting via the iDevices Connected App. The span regulates how long the equipment runs and how long it waits between runs. So a larger span will result in longer runs, longer off times, and fewer cycles. Hope that helps! Please contact us directly if you have more questions at 888-313-7019 or [email protected]

Many offices have banned space heaters altogether - Cozy Products meet rigorous safety standards that make them office-friendly and energy efficient. Specifications: Dimensions: 14" x 21" x 1", Weight: 8 lbs, 120 watts, 120 volts, Cord Length: 9', 10". As with any new heated rubber product, the rubber odor may be quite noticeable when plugged in for the first time. This is temporary, and will dissipate quickly, especially with consistent use. Due to the strength of this heater, it is not recommended for use on delicate floors such as hard wood, linoleum, area rugs, or carpet. Warning: This product can expose you to chemicals including DEHP, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.

As anyone who's been out in the cold knows, toasty feet go a long way toward keeping the rest of you warm. That’s why using an Indus-Tool FW cozy foot warmer can help reduce your indoor heating costs. At only 90 watts, one of these units tucked under a desk allows you to turn the building thermostat down, thereby saving you money. The warmer is less costly to use than a space heater, and safer, too, as there are no exposed heating coils or carbon monoxide emissions. It is ETL listed.--Josh Dettweiler

User questions & answers

Question: What size is it
Answer: 20 1/2 inches x 13 1/2inches
Question: is there automatic shutoff if we leave absent miindedly leave it on when not in use
Answer: It does not, however, the On/Off switch is lighted so it is easy to visually tell whether it is on or not. I use mine under my computer desk on a basement tile floor. Since their switch is on the cord I do not find it convenient to use since it is difficult to reach back under the desk. I leave it turned on (I can still see the light) but I have the cord plugged in to a small power strip located on my desk top that has it's own On/Off switch that is also lighted to then control the mat. I like you tend to sometimes be forgetful about turning it off, however as someone else remarked, it doesn't get so hot that it poses a fire hazard. Having the easy access desk top switch does come in handy though. If you sit with your feet on it long enough they can begin to feel hot and it is nice to be able to just easily cyle it off for awhile. Having the lighted power strip on the desk top definitely makes an easier reminder to turn the mat off when shutting everything else down.
Question: What temp does this get to
Answer: It gets too hot for my feet, and does not have a temp control. I have mine plugged in to a lamp dimmer and usually use it at about 2/3rds of maximum (about 60 watts instead of 90).
Question: Can it be used on wood flooring
Answer: PLACEMENT For use on concrete, stone or tile floors. Do not use on carpeting or wood floors. Take care as to what type of surface you place the mat on – some delicate surfaces may discolor or crack from even this gentle heat. If you are not sure, place some cardboard under the mat for insulation.

User questions & answers

Question: I need 24" x 60".. Can I route the last one feet wire along the side to increase the width to 24" and keep the length to
Answer: You can loosen the heating element from the mesh and put along side the mat keeping it at 3" spacing.
Question: I am planning to install wooden floor (hardwood or laminate) in my bathroom. Can I use this system to heat wooden floors or is is for tiles only
Answer: The floor heating system can be installed under laminate or engineered wood floors, but not a traditional wood floor in which you are nailing down the floor because of the risk of putting a nail through the wire. Regardless of the flooring type, the floor heating system must be completely embedded in a polymer modified cement based mortar.
Question: I have a concrete slab that I would like to add electric floor heating and tile over it. How do I avoid moisture build up with this product
Answer: You need to seal your concrete floor! Theres a great product on amazon here that gets down into concrete and seals up everything--it even pushes dirt and moisture out as its sealing! and you just spray it on. Its advertised to block radon, but its all the same different of sealing concrete (will make moisture barrier, block radon, etc.) I think its just called "Radonseal" and its in a big bucket; you'll also need a 1 gallon sprayer, they run about ten bucks. I would seal it before installing this product, as you'll get a lot more out of it. You'll still want to cover it with something so it can distribute its heat (like put in thinset or something like that) it doesn't have to be fancy tile. I did mine in thinset and threw a rug over it to make a warm place for my pets while i'm at work.
Question: Can this be used when installing a drop-in tub to keep bath water warm
Answer: No, but Kohler has a tub that has a built in heating element on the portion where you lean up against. I don't know how well it would heat the water, but I bet it would be nice.

Floor Heating Mat

The Electric Floor Heating Mat consists of a mat with the cable heating elements pre-spaced 3" within the mat. Simply unroll the floor heating mat with the cold lead running up the wall to the electrical box. These heating systems are ideal for rectangular or square areas with right angles. You can manipulate the mat to fit the desired heating area by using the turning techniques shown below. The white fiberglass mesh may be cut to flip and turn the mat. The RED HEATING ELEMENT CAN NOT BE CUT, so be sure to accurately measure the space you are heating.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you install this in concrete in an outside location
Answer: No, its not really designed for that application. The watt density is too low to melt snow.
Question: Is there a negative effect if I put together more than 100 sq ft on 1 thermostat? I want to do an entire basement nearly 1000 sq ft
Answer: I wouldn't think a thermostat would be affected by more than one mat, as long as they are connected. Perhaps it would be of benefit to use more than 1 thermostat so you could create "zones". Fyi... this will not heat the room, only the floor. Good luck.
Question: Do you have installation instructions or some video posted somewhere how its set into mortar prior to tile and so on? would be very helpful. Thank you
Answer: Hi Geroy, we typically recommend the industry best practices for manufactured products you are using. Many of the thin set/mortar manufacturers have videos on you tube of how to apply the thin set or mortar. I think the best method is to use a self leveling product over the heating cables first before the main tile installation. This protects the heating cable from the notched trowel that is required for tile and essentially it looks like a regular floor without heating cable. Please call is if you have any questions during the installation, we have stellar tech support!
Question: Can you cut the end if you have too much and terminate it
Answer: The cable in the mesh cannot be cut, but the cable can be removed from the mesh material to make a free flowing cable to get around obstacles. These cables have a factory determined resistance and cutting the cable would change the output of the system and most likely cause a fault to occur. The nice thing about the free flowing cable systems is that you can change the spacing in order to fit pretty much any square footage desired. We try to offer as many sizes of mats as possible.
