3 best vests for swimming
Swim vests, also known as swimming vests or training vests, are buoyancy aids designed to assist individuals, particularly beginners or those learning to swim, in staying afloat and maintaining buoyancy in the water. They are commonly used in swimming, water sports, and aquatic fitness. Here's what you should know about swim vests:
Buoyancy Aid: Swim vests are primarily intended to provide buoyancy to the wearer, helping them stay afloat and maintain a horizontal position in the water. They are especially useful for individuals who may not be strong swimmers or those who are learning to swim.
Design: Swim vests typically feature a vest-like design that is worn over the upper body, covering the chest and back. They often come with adjustable straps or closures to ensure a secure and comfortable fit.
Material: These vests are usually made from lightweight and buoyant materials, such as foam or neoprene. The materials used are selected to provide flotation while allowing freedom of movement.
Safety: While swim vests offer buoyancy, they are not considered life jackets or personal flotation devices (PFDs). They are designed for supervised water activities and should not be relied upon as a sole means of safety. Children and inexperienced swimmers should always be closely supervised when using swim vests.
Learning Aid: Swim vests are commonly used as training aids for beginners, especially children. They can help build confidence in the water and provide support while learning essential swimming skills, such as floating and kicking.
Water Fitness: In addition to beginners, swim vests can be used by individuals engaged in aquatic fitness activities like water aerobics or water jogging. The added buoyancy allows for low-impact workouts with reduced stress on joints.
Sizing: Swim vests come in various sizes to accommodate different body types and age groups. It's essential to choose the right size for a secure fit and proper buoyancy.
Maintenance: Proper care and maintenance of swim vests are important to ensure their longevity and effectiveness. Rinse them with fresh water after each use and allow them to air dry. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight for extended periods.
Usage Precautions: Users should be aware that swim vests are not intended for open water or rough water conditions. They are best suited for calm and controlled aquatic environments like swimming pools.
Alternatives: In addition to swim vests, other buoyancy aids such as arm floaties, swim noodles, and swim belts are also available for different levels of support and comfort in the water.
Swim vests can be a valuable tool for individuals of various ages and swimming abilities, whether you're helping a child gain confidence in the water or looking for added support during aquatic workouts. However, they should always be used responsibly and under supervision, especially for non-swimmers and young children, to ensure water safety.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this suitable for a 15 month old that weighs 21 pounds |
Answer: | Yes, this should work fine. There are adjustable straps to allow for body trunk length. My grandson was 18 months when he used it, & it worked great. It is definitely too small to wear next summer. Unless it is a very thin child, the size should be for up to 24 months at most, not 36 months. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this type 1 or type 2 according to us coast guard definition? would it keep the face up for non-swimmers? my 3-year old (35 lbs) cannot swim |
Answer: | You are correct in commenting about misuse of the tern "Life Jacket" which this product definitely is NOT. This is also correctly describe as "Swimming Vest" and provide a non-swimmer flotation assistance while the child can learns to tread water and keep their own face out. Another common type has a large, wide collar which can with assistance float a young child on their back. As a swimming instructor and water survival instructor for the military with over 40 years experience I have seen many cases where guardians did not wish to get wet expecting the PFD to provide supervision. In any case a responsible person must be within arm’s reach of a non-swimmer. If any kind of survival is expected a Coast Guard Type one(1) or two (2) is the correct choice and any accidental fall into cold water under 80 degrees can be dangerous. Also as a foot note overall this product appears to be a reasonably well designed. I particularly like the two crotch straps preventing the jacket from riding up over the child face a potentially dangerous situation. |
Question: | Is the crotch strap removable? or just adjustable |
Answer: | It’s adjustable or I have just put it on the side when not in use. I don’t believe it’s removable. |
Question: | My son’s height puts him in a small size and his weight puts him at large, what should I go off |
Answer: | Always go by weight with life vests. |
Question: | Is this united states coast guard approved now? i read back in 2019 it was not. it cannot be worn in a boat in the us if not |
Answer: | Last I read, it was not. |
