Question: | Is the blade sharp out of the box |
Answer: | not really. that said, all it took to was a quick once over with a good knife sharpener, and i was back to surgically lopping peoples heads off! .....just kidding. |
Question: | Was any piece of this sword welded during its construction |
Answer: | Generally speaking no. I can not speak for anything under the handle. Some people have noted their hanlde to be loose; my example was tight but iprefer the traditional wraped handle. |
Question: | What is the blade length |
Answer: | The blade is 22 inches, it is wrong in the description, I told the seller about this over a year ago-he has not fixed it, mine came very sharp, the finish is acid wash, not painted like another review, any more Pit bull attacks on me and the dog will be sorry- |
Question: | Is it a full tang |
Answer: | Yes it is. However, It is heavy, blade thicker than expected. Try Kult of athena or Atlanta cutlery. I returned the honshu blade and got the red damascus katana at Acut. lighter sharper more traditional with good color on my example. If you want a blade to do a lot of back yard hacking and slashing the honshu may be good. If you want a more traditional blade for drawing, karta exercise and moderate back yard cutting get the red damascus katana at Atlatlery.n Cutlery |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does anyone know the best way to hang this on the wall ? The usual samurai sword hangers won’t work |
Answer: | I usually just manufacture my own. It works better for me because if you do it yourself, it's custom and probably lasts much longer. |
Question: | How is the handle secured to the tang |
Answer: | two screws, with large flat heads |
Question: | Does the tang go through the knuckle hand guard all the way |
Answer: | I was told by the seller in an email that the tang does not go through the knuckle guard. So conflicting reports. I would assume that the steel goes through only the grip and not the guard. So while it is full tang, the guard is only plastic unlike say the cold steel kopis or cutlass machete. |
Question: | How thick is the blade |
Answer: | I would say a quarter inch thick. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are you able to hang it sideways |
Answer: | If it's on the display plaque, it must be vertical. If it is in the sheath, it could be hung horizontally using a sling secured near both ends. However, the plaque would no longer be practical. Good luck. |
Question: | is it officially licensed |
Answer: | I would contact United Cutlery in regards to your question. I do know it comes with a piece of paper stating information about the piece, signed by United Cutlery. Also, I have Sting and the Goblin Clever which too me are very nice pieces. I hope this helps. |
Question: | Does it glow blue when orks are near |
Answer: | Haha! We haven’t been close enough to one to try it. But it is a very authentic piece! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Dose this scabbard fit the LOTR sting sword |
Answer: | It absolutely does! The scabbard is designed to fit any United Cutlery Sting swords, because they all have the same dimensions. My sword is a Lord of the Rings Museum Collection Sting, and it fits perfectly, so it will fit any version, whether it be the standard Hobbit or Lord of The Rings, as well as the Museum Collection. Hope this helps! |
Question: | Does it bend |
Answer: | No, it's solid with a leather skin, and metal filigree top, and bottom. Plus a belt stabilizer on it. I think it compliments the sword. I'm glad I got it, it wouldn't be complete without it. |
Question: | Would the Noble Collection Hobbit Sting fit this scabbard |
Answer: | The scabbard would probably be too big and the blade would be loose inside it. As far as I know the Noble Collection blades are a bit smaller than the United Cutlery ones. |
Question: | does it fit the one from noble collection |
Answer: | It should not. The Lord of the rings Noble Collection Sting is a different size from the United Cutlery Sting. I researched this in detail when UC went out of business for a while. I don't know about the Hobbit versions, though. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the handle completely round or oval? Also where is the balance point roughly |
Answer: | oval, and about 2 and a half inches down the blade |
Question: | Does this come with the certificate of authenticity |
Answer: | Yes it does. I bought it for my daughter who is a huge LOTR. It is a great sword. It's heavy and beautiful. It does come with the certificate. |
Question: | Does it come with a scabbard |
Answer: | Unfortunately, Glamdring does not come with the scabbard. The scabbard is sold separately. None of the officially licensed swords from United Cutlery are sold with scabbards. (So if you see any of the LOTR or Hobbit swords sold together on Amazon, most likely they are cheaper knockoffs/unofficial copies.) |
Question: | I want to get into sword fighting, does this sword seem like something that would hold up or is it strictly a display item |
Answer: | Strictly a display item. I wouldn't recommend using this as a fighting sword. It has a rat tail construction - meaning the blade comes into the handle and narrows to a thin rod like a rat's tail - more likely to break.. You want a full tang sword where the metal from the blade narrows less and is much thicker in the handle. Plus this is not balanced like a real sword. Be safe. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will the color buff out |
Answer: | if the question is regarding the blade, no I don't think so. |
Question: | Is this colored? Or is it the actual metal color |
Answer: | It is the real color or\f the metal. However, it is achieved by acid etching with ferric chloride or similar chemical. The redish color comes from mixing copper with the steel and folding or twisting the heated metal. My experience with this sword is that it is heavy and thick. If you want to slice a lot of water filled bottles or bash a standing 2x4 or other heavy targets this mat be an option. If you are looking for a slightly shorter thinner blade with a traditional wrapped handle that will still slice plastic bottles and more realistic targets like old clothing filled with bubble wrap the Atlanta Cutlery Red Damascus Katana may be a better choice. The Acut item has a blade made with steel and copper as well. Either one will show scrarches in the color with heavy use and will need to be re etched to repair scratched or gouges in the blade from rough use. |
Question: | What kind of alloys were used to make this sword |
Answer: | It's made of Damascus Steel |
Question: | Is this as sharp and ready as the 1060 carbon steel model |
Answer: | Overall nice sword, not light but not over the top heavy - I'd have to say it's not as sharp as advertised. Hope that helps. |
