12 best cold steel katana swords

Cold Steel is a well-known brand in the world of edged weapons and specializes in producing a variety of knives, swords, and other bladed tools. Among their products are Cold Steel Katana swords, which are a type of traditional Japanese samurai sword. Here is some information about Cold Steel Katana swords:

  1. Design and Authenticity: Cold Steel Katana swords are designed to closely resemble traditional Japanese katana swords. These swords are renowned for their elegant, curved blades, circular or squared guards, and long handles with distinctive wrapping. While Cold Steel aims for authenticity in design, it's important to note that these swords are typically produced for practical use and may not have the same level of craftsmanship as high-end, hand-forged katanas.

  2. Materials: Cold Steel Katana swords are often made from modern materials such as high-carbon steel. While traditional katanas were made through an intricate process of folding and tempering different types of steel, modern manufacturing techniques allow for the production of durable and functional swords using more uniform materials.

  3. Functional Swords: Cold Steel emphasizes the functionality and durability of their Katana swords. These swords are often marketed as martial arts training tools or for cutting practice (tameshigiri). They are designed to withstand rigorous use and maintain their edge.

  4. Variety: Cold Steel offers a variety of Katana models with different blade lengths, styles, and features. This allows customers to choose a sword that suits their preferences and intended use, whether it's for display, training, or cutting practice.

  5. Safety and Training: It's essential to use Cold Steel Katana swords safely and responsibly, especially if they are used for martial arts training. Training should be conducted under the guidance of an experienced instructor to prevent accidents and injuries.

  6. Maintenance: Like all bladed weapons, Katana swords require proper maintenance to keep them in good condition. Regular cleaning, oiling, and inspection are necessary to prevent rust and maintain the blade's sharpness.

  7. Legality: The purchase and ownership of swords, including Katana swords, may be subject to legal regulations in different regions and countries. It's important to be aware of local laws and regulations governing the possession and use of edged weapons.

  8. Collectors' Items: Some individuals collect Cold Steel Katana swords for their historical or aesthetic value. Collectible Katana swords are often kept as display pieces rather than for practical use.

In summary, Cold Steel Katana swords are modern interpretations of traditional Japanese katana swords, designed for functionality and durability. They are used in various contexts, including martial arts training, cutting practice, and collection. When purchasing or using a Katana sword, it's crucial to consider its intended use, safety precautions, and any legal regulations that may apply in your area.

User questions & answers

Question: how long is the blade, also is it sharp out of the box
Answer: Specs are on the website can't remember. Yes mine came almost shave sharp.
Question: there is almost no description on the page. No blade description at all
Answer: Blade is beautiful and has the claying wave form on it (if you don't know what this is, watch some videos on how authentic samuri swords are made). I like the wave form effect, I think some have commented on it as being flawed but don't know this is actually a more authentic artistic design. The blade is sharp but not super sharp as you would get in a professional sharpening (which for the length of this blade would be around $1,200). Obviously, they are not going to give a $1,200 professional sharpining to an end product in the $400 range (think of it when the blade gets dull, you could buy two more new swords for the price of a professional sharpening). The machining and fit of the hilt and handle are not that exciting (but remember the overall cost of the sword is not that great so you are paying for what you get)..... but great overall job with the blade for the price!!!!
Question: Is it battle ready
Answer: Yes, slice and dice.
Question: Is it made with damascus steel? why the cost gap with cold steel website
Answer: Yes Damascus. They all do that even Benchmade, so that people will buy from there distributors.

Question: Is this sword the same exact one sold by coldsteel.com? Hows it half price on here
Answer: This sword is from Cold Steel. We get really good deals from them that allow us to sell it at that price.
Question: Is this a real katana in other words is it sharp and will it break easily
Answer: Sharp, yes. Will it break easily? Since I haven't tried to break it I can't answer this question unless I know what steel was used to make the katana and know how it was made and ... I don't. It's good enough for display. If it really was made by Cold Steel knives then it was probably made out of 1055 Carbon which should be good enough for most purposes.
Question: Does the sword has a full tang? Thanks
Answer: Yes. This sword indeed has a full tang. You'll find more information about it on the cold steel website, but yes I did my research and this model has a full tang.
Question: Is this the Emperor Series or the Warrior Series

User questions & answers

Question: What is the handle length
Answer: The tsuka comes in at 11.5 inches or 29.2 cm. The real problem with the sword is the weight, the handle doesn't feel long enough for how tip heavy it is. It's not an easy sword to steer even with the longer tsuka.
Question: Can you change the handle like the real one
Answer: I got mine a couple of years ago and the handle is held on with 2 wooden pegs that can be tapped out to remove the handle
Question: Can it cut a 1.5 inch steel
Answer: No a well thought-out question. Depends upon the strength of the metal that you're trying to cut. The amount of pressure you apply. If there is any material defects.
Question: what type of steel is it made of
Answer: Steel: 1055 Carbon

User questions & answers

Question: what is the total length of this sword in inches? And what is the width of the blade from top to tip in inches? Thanks
Answer: Total length point to button on pommel: 43.5 inBlade point to guard: 33.5 inWidth edge to edge at guard: 1.77 in, with .25 in thickness as cross-section.Width edge to edge just before last point taper: .88 in, with .15 thickness as cross-section.
Question: Is this a full tang, tempered steel sword
Answer: Yes it is both full tang and tempered steel. As an aside it is a fairly hard steel but a decent amount of flex for the length and size of the blade.
Question: someone mentioned that you may need a frog to hang this, do you really need a frog or will any large amphibian do
Answer: Given the weight of the sword, you will need at least two LARGE frogs, properly tanned and seasoned, to avoid the aforementioned stretching and resulting tearing. Other large amphibians would suffice, here again providing they are of sufficient size and thickness of skin. And not endangered...by all the gods of Nehwon and yonder, please do not use endangered amphibian for your sword hanger/baldric...none of us will ever hear the end of that. Use velociraptor or something common like that.
Question: What is the limit for how forward to be with it in battle? I require a strong weapon fit for a warrior and could take out an entire army. Can it
Answer: Cold Steel Weapons have a rep for being over engineered but brutal cutters. Basically the general feeling about them is that "They cut like a light saber but they handle like a crowbar." So if you were looking for a weapon that you plan on using to fight others with real swords, they are probably going to be too heavy and not as nimble as the swords they used in the past. Which if faced with a properly balanced sword would mean you'd be dead pretty quickly. However, if what you are looking for is a sword to practice with and cut things in the back yard, they are wonderful tools for that. The thing is in the price range of 250-300 the swords you will find will always have a few things off about them. You don't get into the highest end of authentic blades until 800+ or so. Now that isn't to say the 300 or so price range is bad, just that they have to pick and choose what features to include to get you the most bang for your buck. Cold Steel picks durability, raw cutting power over say looks and perfect balance/weight. The only issue I hear with CS swords is that you need to check the pommel and hilt after heavy cutting because they are screwed on rather than hot peened. This is both good and bad. Bad in that you have to check them and may need to tighten them up from time to time. Good in that if you ever want to personalize your sword more by having a custom grip made for it, it's easier to install and replace.I personally own 5 CS Swords and I'm happy with them for the price I paid for them.
