12 best horse boots
Horse boots are essential pieces of equipment in equestrian sports, designed to protect a horse's legs and hooves during various activities and disciplines. These boots serve multiple purposes and come in various types to suit different riding and training needs. Here's what you need to know about horse boots:
Protection: Horse boots primarily provide protection to a horse's legs and hooves from potential injuries, impacts, and abrasions. They are especially important during high-intensity activities such as jumping, racing, or trail riding.
Types of Horse Boots:
- Fetlock Boots: These protect the fetlock joint (the area just above the hoof) from brushing or striking during movement.
- Tendon Boots: Designed to safeguard the horse's tendons and ligaments, particularly on the front legs.
- Splint Boots: Protect against injuries to the splint bones on the inside of the cannon bone.
- Bell Boots: These cover the horse's hooves and protect them from overreaching, where the horse steps on its own hooves with the opposite foot.
- Overreach Boots: Similar to bell boots, they prevent the horse from injuring itself by stepping on its heels with the front hooves.
Materials: Horse boots are made from various materials, including leather, neoprene, rubber, and synthetic materials. The choice of material depends on factors such as the intended use, durability, and the horse's comfort.
Fit and Sizing: Proper fit is crucial for the effectiveness and comfort of horse boots. Ill-fitting boots can cause discomfort and hinder a horse's performance. Riders should measure their horse's legs accurately to select the right size and ensure a secure fit.
Fastenings: Horse boots typically have closures like buckles, hook-and-loop (Velcro) straps, or quick-release snaps to keep them securely in place. Properly fastened boots are essential to prevent them from slipping or coming loose during riding.
Disciplines: Different equestrian disciplines may require specific types of boots. For example, show jumping horses often wear tendon and fetlock boots to protect against impact, while dressage horses may use lighter boots for support during training.
Maintenance: Regular cleaning and maintenance are important to prolong the lifespan of horse boots. Keeping them clean and free from debris and sweat can help prevent skin irritation and discomfort for the horse.
Training Aids: Some horse boots also serve as training aids. For example, polo wraps or bandages are used for support and protection during training and can provide mild compression to help reduce swelling.
Regulations: In certain equestrian competitions, there may be rules and regulations regarding the use of horse boots.Riders should familiarize themselves with the specific requirements for their discipline and level of competition.
Customization: Some riders opt for custom-made horse boots to ensure a perfect fit and address any specific needs or concerns their horse may have.
Horse boots are an integral part of horse care and safety in equestrian sports. They help prevent injuries, provide support, and ensure the well-being of the horse during various activities, contributing to both the horse's performance and its overall health.

Question: | Can you remove the bell boots from the leg supports |
Answer: | When I received these boots they were only the left ones. Aren’t they supposed to be left front and back and right front and back? |
Question: | are these supportive enough for indoor lunging |
Answer: | I bought the mediums N they r fairly stretchy. Have used em on horses from 14.2 to 15.2h. N fit well. Only thing is watch a video on how to use the back boots correctly or they will bunch out after a lap or 2. So even if you think you know just YouTube back boots and apply them correctly as you watch and then they are good. These are just peculiar for the backs and will bunch out if not literally perfect. I use them for trail riding, and just daily riding in an arena. Have used them to jump in a few times. Really they are fairly universal. Stitching has come out on a few spots but I use them just about everyday and have had then almost 2 yrs. |
Question: | Sizing measurements for medium & large |
Answer: | I bought this set for my mare and it's great. It is all 4 boots! The pink is a little too bright but the quality is awesome and you can't beat the price! |
Question: | I would like to know if the medium size boot would fit a small horse around |
Answer: | My mini mule likes them. They seem to be just the right size. |

User questions & answers
Question: | The picture for the yellow boots are coming up saying Sky Blue. My question is will the be sent yellow as the photo shows or the color it is saying |
Answer: | NO, it is not for use on humans, it will burn your skin. You need to use gloves when you spray it on your horses. |
Question: | What size for back and front for 16hand TB |
Answer: | Not knowing what type of Gate you want to mount it too, makes it a little difficult to respond to that questionHowever, if it is a cattle gate or any gate, you would need to cut some treated lumber (size as required) and bolt this lumber to the gate supports with some galvanized coated and or stainless steel Bolts, nuts and lock washers. Then bolt the Waterer to this Lumber. Depending on the application, you may be able to use longer bolts and bolt through the Waterer and wood support and through the gate support with one bolt to secure the waterer and the wood support in one shot to the Gate supportNaturally I feel you would want to connect a flexible hose to the waterer from your water source, because I assume this gate will be utilized, therefore allowing the gate to open and close freelyYou may want to insulate and also protect the hose, depending on how cold your climate is in your areaFYI, These green PVC type automatic waters are the best on the market, compared to the painted and or galvanize waterers. That is my opinionHope this helpsGod Bless! If you are in a cold climate than use those Richie Waterers, they are insulated and made for that environment but of course not cheap! |
Question: | I have a Cleveland bay w big bones he wares a large in the professional choice splint boots what size wood he wear in the woof boots |
Answer: | I would use two 1 inch by 6 inch by 12 inch long board and two galvanized bolts. I would use 4 inch long bolts of either 1/4 or 3/8 diameter with a flat washer and nut. Drill your holes through the two boards and sandwich the chain link fence between them. This is a decent waterer. Our large horses will drink from it, but a three or four gallon waterer is more sufficient. This one works great for mini horses, dogs, goats, chickens, etc. Just mount it low so your smallest animal can get to it. |
Question: | What size would be apx. Cob |
Answer: | You will need a attachment 1/2" FNPT x 3/4" FHT |

Question: | Are they hind or front |
Answer: | HI! This listing is for the GALLON Size |
Question: | does this set come with 2 or |
Answer: | I've never seen the promo you noticed. I've always bought the 1 gallon bottle/tin. I'm sorry I've not helped you. Have a nice day. Tommaso Martello |
Question: | Are these to keep flys off |
Answer: | I don't think you can, I don't think that would be a good idea. They make a fly product just for cows, because the oils in their skin absorb differently. And it is harmful to dogs and cats. If you want to be sure give Farnam a call and they can tell you for sure. |
