14 best scope mounts
Scope mounts are essential components in the field of shooting and hunting, as they play a crucial role in attaching optics, such as scopes or red dot sights, to firearms. These mounts are designed to securely hold the optic in place while maintaining alignment with the firearm's barrel. Here are some key aspects of scope mounts:
Types of Scope Mounts:
Picatinny Rails: Picatinny rails, also known as MIL-STD-1913 rails, are a standardized system of mounting accessories, including optics, on firearms. These rails have evenly spaced slots that allow for the attachment of various accessories using compatible mounts.
Weaver Rails: Weaver rails are similar to Picatinny rails but have a slightly different design. Weaver mounts are compatible with both Weaver and Picatinny rails, while Picatinny mounts are generally only compatible with Picatinny rails.
One-Piece Mounts: One-piece scope mounts provide a stable and rigid platform for attaching optics. They are often used for high-powered rifles and long-range shooting.
Two-Piece Mounts: Two-piece mounts consist of separate rings that are attached to the firearm's receiver. They offer flexibility in adjusting the spacing between the rings to accommodate different scope lengths.
Ring Types:
Low, Medium, and High Rings: Scope rings come in various heights to accommodate different objective lens sizes and to provide the correct sight alignment. Low rings are used for smaller objective lenses, while high rings are suitable for larger ones.
Quick-Detach (QD) Rings: QD rings allow for easy removal and reattachment of the scope without the need for tools. They are popular among shooters who frequently switch optics between firearms.
Material and Construction:
- Scope mounts are typically made from materials like aluminum, steel, or alloy. Aluminum mounts are lightweight, while steel mounts are more durable and robust. The choice of material depends on the intended use and the firearm's recoil.
Installation:
- Proper installation of scope mounts is crucial to ensure accuracy and reliability. This involves securing the mounts to the firearm's receiver using appropriate screws or bolts and ensuring that the rings are correctly aligned.
Compatibility:
- It's essential to choose scope mounts that are compatible with both the optic and the firearm. Different firearms may require specific mounts or adapters to attach optics securely.
Ring Diameter:
- Scope rings come in various diameters to accommodate the main tube size of the optic. Common diameters include 1 inch, 30mm, and 34mm. Ensure that the ring diameter matches the tube diameter of your scope.
In summary, scope mounts are critical accessories for attaching optics to firearms, ensuring precise aiming and accuracy during shooting and hunting activities. Choosing the right type of mount, rings, and proper installation are essential for achieving optimal performance with your firearm and optic combination.

User questions & answers
Question: | Work for m1a eye relief |
Answer: | If you want to do a durability test to see how many times you can send a pellet down range before it refuses to hold zero, you can use it on a magnum air rifle. If it is a variable pump, non-magnum (Below 1000 FPS) inert gas, springer (any speed below 700 FPS) or a PCP air gun the answer will be yes. Otherwise if you do expect to use it on a spring piston(springer) or magnum speed rifle of any make the answer will be you can try but your durability will suffer. I have killed 4 scopes over the last 2 years putting them on my pellet rifles(Barksa, Centerpoint, Simmons and Gamo). Now I use magnum airgun rated scopes (Cabela's Brand the best so far and UTG/Leapers). |
Question: | Will this fit on a chiappa m |
Answer: | Yes, I put it on my 30+ year old Marlin model 60 with the included rings and it not only bolted right on, but I was on paper at 50 yards with the first shot group - only about 4" off target with no pre-sighting at all! |
Question: | Would this mount be strong enough for use with a shotgun |
Answer: | The rings that come with this scope will not securely attach to the dovetail on either a Marlin XT-22 or a Marlin 795. There is a lot of the scope creep. For the XT-22 I bought weaver scope bases, for the Marlin 795 I ended up buying a UTG air rifle base with integral rings. The scope is great, the rings that come with it are subpar though. |
Question: | What is the height from top of rail to bottom of ring |
Answer: | I have it mounted on my 10/22 takedown. Fits in the carrying case when mounted, but barely. Great scope for that rifle imo |
- Dual ring scope mount for mounting standard 1 inch tube rifle scopes
- Mounts to any flat top Picatinny rail equipped rifle

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these fit a 32mm objective lens |
Answer: | IF I AM RIGHT 1 LBS- 6 OZ, YOU CAN FEEL THE WEIGHT |
Question: | Would this fit my savage 93 17hmr rim fire rifle |
Answer: | A springer air rifle will KILL this scope. It will literally fall apart, mine did. This scope is a good value, but not for spring powered air rifles. |
Question: | will these fit the henry ar |
Answer: | A good way to set up your scope is to mount your scope and bore sight it. With a bolt action, remove the bolt, set the rifle in a gun vise (like a lead sled), set a target at 25 yards, look thru the bore and adjust the scope to same spot on the target that you see thru the bore. (With a lever gun or semiautomatic, you will need a laser bore site). Fire a shot at the target. You should be on the paper. Adjust the shot to the center of the target. Now set a target at 100 yards and fire a 3 round group. Adjust your scope to the center of the group and fire another shot. This should put you dead center at 100 yards. Follow the ballistics charts for your rifle caliber as a guideline for bullet drop and trajectory. There is no better way to find out what each mil dot represents than to fire your rifle at different ranges to know what yardage each dot will represent. |

Question: | Will this provide enough clearance to mount a 50mm objective NightForce Scope on top of an AR |
Answer: | Definitely aluminum. The fasteners may be made of steel, but the mount itself is aluminum. |
Question: | Will this work on a Ruger precision rifle with the 20 moa base with the vortex viper pst 6-24x50 with the sunshade |
Answer: | NO! The rings are spaced too far apart to be able to fit the Nikon P-223, keep in mind the P-223 is a very short scope, the rings overlap where the scope flares for the lenses by about .5 inch or so. I would suggest getting the Nikon mounts or individual rings. |

Question: | Will this fit my benjamin nitro piston |
Answer: | I have the 1.5" version of this in top of an AR10 (similar mount) and it's too low to clear my 50mm objective crossfire. You want this one. I'll post again after I get it mounted, but I only need another .25" so I'm confident this will resolve my problem. |

Question: | Will this fit vortex 4x12x44mm? One person said it fit and other person said does not, im confused |
Answer: | pretty close to 1 1/8 inch top of rail to center. |
Question: | Will this work on dovetail system |
Answer: | Not really. My 50mm scope fits... but the focus ring on front just touches my top rail. I would get something else for a 50mm scope. probably going to return these. |
Question: | Will the 1” rings work with a 50mm objective lense |
Answer: | Yes. No problem. |
Question: | What are the torque specs |
Answer: | Is your 40mm scope have a 1 inch (25mm) tube? |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can iy be mounted in reverse to bring scope close to shooter for eye relief |
Answer: | I just received the 0.8" height rings and mounted a Vortex 4-12x44 Copperhead scope on a Picatinny rail equipped bolt action. The fit was perfect. |
Question: | Will this work on 7.62x54r |
Answer: | no they will not. they only mount to a picatinny rail mount or weaver style mounts. these are too wide for dovetail . |
Question: | Does this work on Ruger Precision Rifles |
Answer: | If the diameter of your scope is one inch you can use the one inch diameter rings. Now what you have got to deal with is the height of the rings which will probably have to be a "high" ring to use with a 50MM objective lens. Medium rings might give you clearance between the scope objective end and the barrel but I doubt it. If you are mounting it on an AR platform it would probably work. Ya just have to try different combinations sometimes to get the right fit for you! |
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | While the rings did not give recommended torque specs my scope recommended no tighter than 15 inch pounds |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work on my cva scout v2 .45-70 govt |
Answer: | Go with a mount with no forward cant. This is to push the scope forward and still be able to mount to the receiver. |
Question: | do the screws holding the scope need to be torqued to specific amount |
Answer: | It will work on any firearm regardless of caliber as long as the firearm has a mil spec 1917 picatinny rail or equivalent on top. Since you asked 7.62x54r, I'm going to guess Mosin Nagant. You'll need an adapter to mount this. Also, you might be better served with scope rings instead as they allow for a lower scope placement. This mount was designed for AR style weapons so it rests quite high. |
Question: | Can this be mounted on gamo 6110017154 varmint air rifle .177 cal |
Answer: | This item will fit on a Ruger Precision Rifle, but is designed to push the scope forward for more eye relief. I believe the standard model or the extended version would be a better fit on a bolt action rifle than this SPR mount. |
Question: | what is the ring height from base of the mount to bottom of the ring? Will this fit a 54 mm objective lens scope on a flat top pictanny rail |
Answer: | This is made in the USA at their factory in Tacoma, WA. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the part number for this apra |
Answer: | Will work yes. However I believe to high for. Lever action rifle |
Question: | I lost the tightening tool for the screws, and am looking for a replacement. I'm wondering, are the screws/tool are proprietary |
Answer: | The screws can be torqued until theyre tight enough that the scope does not wobble at all, then you can zero the scope itself for accuracy. |
Question: | Will this elevate the scope high enough to clear fixed front sights |
Answer: | As long as it has a weaver style rail (Picatinny rail) on top, it will fit. |
Question: | What's the difference between this model and the "SPR" model |
Answer: | I had to get a cantilevered mount to get my 4.5x-18x 40mm Bushnell to mount forward of the charging handle of my Ruger AR-556. I don't know why they give the measurements that they do, but as best as I could measure without taking it back off the rifle, it is one inch from the bottom of the mount to inside of the ring for a 30mm scope, or 1 & 1/16" with the sleeves for a 1" scope. As for a 54mm objective, it is satisfactory with my 40mm, but I would actually prefer a slightly higher mount. |

Answer: | Ap210500 is that part number |
Question: | Will these work on a Ruger ar-556 without having to remove the front sight from factory |

Question: | I will be mounting on a Del-ton ar15 with fixed front iron sights. Will I still be able to use the sights and will the scope clear the front sight |
Answer: | I do not have fixed front sights on my AR. I have flip down Troy sights. But you should see right through your fixed sight. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a 1” tube |
Answer: | Yes. Scope has 30mm tube and mount is 30mm. The scope has 4.0 inch eye relief which is plenty if installed on an AR. |
Question: | Why does it say 40mm Mount? Once it was purchased |
Answer: | The person that said the Crossfire II has a 1" tube is not necessarily correct. I bought a Crossfire II 1-4x24 and it is absolutely a 30mm tube. The larger magnification Crossfire IIs may likely have a 1" tube. Check the specs of the scope you have before ordering your mount! |
Question: | So am i getting a 30mm or the 40mm it adds to my cart need a 30mm |
Answer: | If you have a .50bmg you have enough money to get a actual Giselle or American defense lol. But on a serious not do not put a 30 mount on a .50 bmg |
Question: | What is the height of the center of the ring from the rail, will a 50mm lens scope clear the rails alright |
Answer: | Mine lock down. If yours don't they are not adjusted correctly. |
