| Answer: | I bought a new sqaure outlet (the Levitron T5825 (B003F77RS8)) to use with the SnapPower GuideLight 2. After installing the Levitron outlet, I snapped in the SnapPower and it seemed to work well with a strong light level. I then screwed in the SnapPower and discovered that the light no longer functioned (I tested by covering the light sensor). Unscrew and it worked again. The prong contacts were misaligned with the Levitron outlet such that it only made contact when the plate still had a gap between it and the wall. What followed was a lot of fiddling, installing shims (stiff pieces of cardboard), and unscrewing and re-screwing over and over. I finally got something that works, but it is not aesthetically pleasing as the outlet sits somewhat recessed relative to the SnapPower plate. This is not just an ascetic issue either -- I have a two prong plug that is wider than the plate opening (basically one of these B0761MKV66), so it sits against the plate on both sides -- this makes it unstable and prone to pop out of the socket. |
